“Thank Goddess.” Evan prayed in a low voice, a smile gradually appeared on his face.

Regarding this matter, she was afraid that it had nothing to do with the goddess.

Anna agreed and repeated, “Thank Goddess”, but she could not fall asleep after returning home.

Did Bobby really die by an accident? Or, did he die because of the “god of death” like that child said?

A god of death who uses fire as a weapon.

She heard Abigail and the others say that Ulysses was the best at fire spells.

And right now, the demon was occupying Ulysses’ body.

The next morning, Anna got up with dark circles under her eyes. When she passed the door of the butcher’s house, she happened to see someone carrying Bobby’s body out, leaving only the ruins of the original home.

After arriving at the Earls Court kitchen, Anna studied and worked as she was required. Even when the rumors were the most outrageous, Rebecca’s attitude towards her had not changed, and she still tried her best to teach Anna. Anna also studied very seriously.

There were very few decent jobs suitable for women in this world. Anna hoped that she could obtain more skills so that even if she did not work in the earl’s manor anymore, she could rely on what she had learned here to get positions in other noble houses.

Working as a maid in a noble house was practically the best job for ordinary women in this world; it was decent and the salary was high. Many civilian women could only make a living by selling their bodies.

Anna happened to finish her morning work right around Parrish’s meal time, so she took the food box and walked over.

She saw Parrish, as well as the demon, who was like Parrish’s shadow. Like usual, Anna pretended that she did not see the demon. While setting up breakfast for Parrish, she said: “Young Master Parrish, I clarified the rumors to the others yesterday. The rumors that had upset you will soon disappear.”

And new ones will appear… Anna said this in her mind, but then she was a little confused.

Originally, this new rumor was the way she thought of to counterattack Bobby, but now that Bobby was dead, she didn’t need this new rumor at all.

The affairs of the world are impermanent, Anna thought.

She glanced at the demon. He seemed to have been looking at her before this. When she looked at him, their eyes met. Anna quickly looked away.

If Bobby was killed by this demon…

Did this mean that her previous judgment was wrong? The demon wanted to kill her, and there was no need to abide by the rules she had assumed?

“Very good, my dear. I appreciate your obedience and determination.” Parrish smiled. “This is a very rare trait.”

Anna said respectfully, “Thank you very much for the compliment, Young Master Parrish, I am just making up for my mistake.”

Parrish smiled. This was a trivial matter. After knowing that Anna had listened to him and clarified the rumors, he had put it in the back of his brain. If Anna hadn’t mentioned this matter today, he would have forgotten it a long time ago, and would only think of this matter when he heard the rumors again next time.

After Parrish finished eating, Anna packed everything up and left.

She was still a little worried that the demon would stop her, but even when she had returned to the kitchen, the demon paid her no mind.

But when an unfamiliar man came to the kitchen to look for her, Anna knew that she was happy too early.

The man claimed to be a servant of Mage Ulysses Russell, and called for Anna to send the Mage some food.

Because of the servant’s presence, the entire kitchen preparation room was quiet when Rebecca prepared the food. When Anna followed the servant to leave, there was a sudden burst of voices behind her.

Even when Rebecca handed the food box to Anna, her expression was somewhat hesitant.

Anna thought silently, she was probably going to be called a woman of loose morals. The rumors of “Young Master Parrish requesting everyone to stop spreading the rumors in order to not harm her” were still brewing, and another nobleman had begun to join the battlefield…

If she was an outsider, she would also wonder how she could be so shrewd.

Kelly once said in a chat that the small building where Ulysses the mage lived was very gloomy, and it wasn’t until Anna had arrived with Ulysses’ servant that she realized Kelly was right.

This was a small building on the west side of the garden. The exterior wall was covered with some kind of climbing plant. Even the glass windows were covered quite a bit. Compared with the sun room outside Parrish’s bedroom, it felt like two worlds.

The demon waited for Anna in the dining room of the small building. The servant took her over there and then quietly retreated. There were only two people left in the dimly lit room.

Anna first saluted, and then took out each item in the food box.

Rothgarr sat at the round wooden table. He hadn’t looked away from Anna since she came in.

When Anna put down the last item and was about to retreat, Rothgarr said, “The old widower is dead, you must be very happy.”

It was like he was asking her, but his tone did not contain any inquiry. He sounded very sure.

The old widower?

Uhh… was he talking about Bobby the Butcher?

Anna didn’t expect the demon to say it directly, and she looked at him in surprise.

Although she had guessed that he had done it, how could she not be surprised when he admitted it personally?

And… Generally speaking, this demon was probably tens of thousands of years old. Did he not find it shameful to call a human with a life span of less than a hundred old?

“Was it you……who killed Bobby?” Anna asked as if confirming it.

She didn’t expect that being eyed by the demon would have such “benefits”. It seemed that the demon didn’t want other people to snatch away the prey that was almost in his hands, so he mercilessly set Bobby on fire.

If she still could not meet his wishes, perhaps he might even angrily set her on fire, too.

“Of course, it was me.” Rothgarr looked at Anna coldly and asked with a smile, “How do you plan on thanking me?”

Thank him? The kind of “thank” that he wanted, was no doubt her soul.

And of course, she would not give it to him.

Anna took a small step back. Her throat was a little swollen from nervousness, and her voice was very soft. “My Honorable lord Ulysses, I didn’t ask you to kill Bobby.”

She didn’t ask him to kill anyone, so he did it by himself and then came to her to ask for remuneration. Wasn’t this buying and selling under coercion?!
