PS I'm Over You

Chapter 199 - In Exchange for His Freedom (1)

Night came, and the Park Estate was engulfed in silence. Ririna put her son early to bed, knowing that this night may not end nicely. Whatever the Bureau wanted from her, they would surely try to get it—now that Eli wasn't around.

"Mommy, can you sleep here? I miss sleeping beside you," Skyler peeked from his covers as he watched Ririna sort the files her brother sent her.

Ririna stopped what she was doing and inclined her head down to look at her son. For the first time since she was reunited with Eli, she had an alone time she could spend with Skyler.

"Of course, darling. In fact, Mommy plans to stay with you tonight. You don't really have to ask." Her fingertips lightly brushed away the hair from his face, and she gave his chubby cheek a pinch. Skyler was growing too fast for her liking, and she couldn't help to reminisce how small he was when she gave birth to him years ago.

"Really? Ah, my Mommy is mine tonight." The young boy cheered and rolled to his side to look at his mother. "What about Daddy? Will he be alright?"

"Daddy is a big boy now, Sky. Daddy knows how to take care of himself." A glint of worry flashed in her eyes, but Ririna forced herself to calm down, not wanting her son to notice it. "Now, my little Sky also needs to sleep so he could grow strong and tall like Daddy." She teased and kissed the tip of his little nose.

An hour later, the boy finally drifted to his slumber, giving Ririna a chance to prepare for an upcoming confrontation between her and the Bureau. She silently slipped out of the room, making sure that her son was asleep.

Going downstairs, she found Evan talking to Erica with such seriousness on his face.

"We know they are arriving tonight, but I didn't expect that they would rather ask for Ririna's cooperation than to kill her," Erica told Evan. Evan crossed his arms on his c.h.e.s.t and turned his head towards Ririna when he heard footsteps coming their way.

"They aren't planning to beat around the bush, I see," Ririna said with contempt. She hated the fact that the Bureau thought that she and Eli would easily submit to their requests. Knowing her husband, Ririna would've assumed that Eli didn't give them a choice when he said he was leaving his post.

"Ririna, you should be careful. We don't know if this is a trap or what." Erica didn't like one bit that the Bureau wanted to pressure Eli by using Ririna. They should know better what the devil was capable of when his witch would get in trouble. All hell would break loose the moment they tried to touch Ririna and Skyler.

"Trap? Captain Li is better than that." Ririna chuckled as she made her way towards the front door, leaving her friends speechless at her boldness. She dared not to underestimate these people working for the government, especially Captain Li.

If there was anyone in this world that could compete with Gamaliel Park's ruthlessness, it would be Spencer Li. He was known for the bloody trail of corpses he would usually leave in his wake after finishing his mission.

Spencer Li, one of the best of the Bureau's people. The mere mention of his name was enough to evoke fear to those being hunted by the government. Ririna had once met him during one of her solo missions when she was still working under Eli and had begrudgingly cooperated with the man to finish her job.

Evan gestured to Erica to follow Ririna and protect her at all costs. Eli would have his head on a silver platter if Ririna ended up dying tonight. He then gave an order to all the hidden guards he assigned them all over the place to tighten the security and kill anyone who dared to enter the premises without his permission.

Ririna ignored the curious glances thrown her way when she walked out of the main house to meet Spencer Li outside. A normal person who didn't know her would wonder if she wasn't afraid to get killed on the spot. Yet, Eli's people knew better not to stop her. Ririna might be good at long-range shooting, but her hand- to-hand combat skills weren't lacking.

Arriving at the entrance of Eli's manor, she wasn't surprised to see a man leaning against a black car— a cigarette on his lips—as he watched the moon above the dark sky. He was dressed in black as if he was the modern grim reaper himself.

Under the dark sky which only lit up by the moonlight above them, half of his face was covered in shadows; giving him a menacing look.

When he heard Ririna's footsteps coming his way, he turned his head to see the woman dressed casually—so unlike the witch he'd encountered years ago. She was wearing a loose white blouse and high-waist beige pencil skirt that reached the top of her knees.

Spencer Li vaguely saw the earpiece blinking on her right ear, indicating that she had direct contact with her people. It was not surprising that the devil himself wouldn't leave her vulnerable in his absence.

"Ririna Han, glad to see you still alive and kickin'." Spencer Li puffed smoke from his cigarette and regarded Ririna with an amused smile. Behind him stood two of his men, staring at Ririna with an unreadable expression on their faces.

"Spencer Li, just what I've expected, the Bureau really sent you to deal with me." Ririna knew that there was no turning back now. She could not pull her husband down with her if the Bureau really wanted her life to end.

She was aware of the consequences of her actions. The Bureau's only concern was her being Eli's weakness. As long as she was alive, Eli would disregard everything— the Bureau included.

The man shook his head. "Don't say it like that, Ririna Han. You don't know how much I've missed you."

"Missed your face." Ririna retorted back. Why would this man pretend right on her face? They had nothing between each other.

She could feel everyone's eyes on her, Evan included. He must be somewhere near hiding, listening to their conversation. She couldn't blame him or find fault in his actions.

Her husband must have threatened Evan to keep her and Skyler safe before leaving to hunt Samuel Shao himself.

"What brings you here then? Did they ask you to kill me?" she asked bluntly. There wasn't a hint of fear or worry in her voice, which made it hard for everyone to know what she was thinking at the moment.

Spencer Li's smile was a mask that hid his deadly nature, and Ririna knew better not to play games with him. Not when Eli wasn't around to protect her. As to how the government was able to put him on the leash was still a mystery for Ririna.

"Don't say it like that, Miss Han. You knew better than the Bureau wouldn't dispatch me if they wanted to kill you. Having you dead will be like signing a warrant for the devil himself to eliminate us. We wouldn't like to see a bloodbath on our side, Ririna Han, and it's not worth the trouble to kill you now… when you yourself know that your next days aren't certain."
