Physician, Not A Consort

Chapter 46: She’s Still Alive

"Yeah, someone saved me. Call Doctor Lin, and tell all of them to come home," Li Junyue explained simply.

"Alright, then I'll go home first. Xiao Zhang, I'll look for you later!" Xiao Ying turned back and said to the security guard.

The security guard, Xiao Zhang, looked apprehensively at Li Junyue and replied, "Be careful; call me if anything happens!" Xiao Ying blushed and nodded before leading Li Junyue into the district.

"Why are you wearing this?" Xiao Ying asked casually.

"Oh, I just went to work as an extra and didn't have the time to change. I still have to go on set later," Li Junyue explained helplessly.

"Why did you decide to be an actor? Aren't you a doctor?" Xiao Ying asked, perplexed.

"Oh, the person who saved me is a filmmaker. I just made a cameo today!" Li Junyue started sweating from the brow. He might run out of answers if Xiao Ying kept asking him questions! Luckily, Xiao Ying just made a sound of assent before she stopped pressing for more details. Li Junyue wiped the sweat off his forehead and trailed behind Xiao Ying.

"Is Li Junyue really back?" Uncle Lin anxiously asked Xiao Ying after walking through the door. Li Junyue walked out hurriedly, and his eyes couldn't help but water when he saw Uncle Lin. In his memory, Uncle Lin had always had a dignified appearance, and was very personable. However, currently, his eyes were sunken and his cheekbones were very prominent. The beard on his face was also unkempt. The loss of his beloved daughter had hit him too hard.

"Senior Brother, it's me!" Li Junyue's tone was choked. "How is Teacher?"

"Sigh. You must still have no idea," Uncle Lin sighed, looking melancholy. Li Junyue's heart sank; could it be that something had happened to the old man? He didn't dare to ask and just looked anxiously towards Uncle Lin.

"Haihai's death hit him too hard. Initially, he could still hold it in. Then, he heard the news of you falling off the cliff and couldn't take the blow. He fainted on the spot and is still in the hospital. There have been quite a few close calls but he managed to pull through. Yesterday, his heart even stopped for a bit, but they managed to bring him back and he's now in a coma!" Uncle Lin cried incessantly. His daughter had just passed on and his father was now critically ill; he almost couldn't hold on any longer!

Li Junyue couldn't hold back his tears and fell to the floor, crying.

"Junyue, you're finally back!" As soon as Auntie Lin entered through the door, she was so overwhelmed with emotions that she hugged Li Junyue and burst into tears.

Although Uncle and Auntie Lin were senior brother and sister to Li Junyue, deep down, he had long treated them as his own parents. Currently, he was just like an aggrieved child, crying to his parents.

After a long time, the three of them finally calmed down and sat down. Uncle Lin asked, "Where were you after you disappeared? Why are you wearing an ancient costume?" Li Junyue looked at Xiao Ying standing at the side and Uncle Lin understood, saying, "Xiao Ying, could you help me to pack up a clean set of clothes and give it to the caregiver?"

"Yes, I'll go right now!" Xiao Ying moved quickly and left soon after.

"You guys have to calm down and listen to me." Li Junyue tried his best to calm them down. However, Uncle and Auntie Lin felt even more anxious after hearing his words. "You can say it, there's nothing we cannot bear." However, the tremble in their voice had betrayed them.

"Xiao'hai is not dead!" Li Junyue's words were like a bomb, causing a storm inside their hearts.

"What did you say?" Auntie Lin stood up suddenly and stared incredulously at Li Junyue.

Uncle Lin looked at Li Junyue, his heart wanting to leap out of his body from excitement. He kept quiet and kept staring at Li Junyue as if afraid to miss any of his facial expressions.

"She has transmigrated to a country that isn't recorded in history. I also transmigrated there when I went missing and met up with her," Li Junyue slowly said.

"Absurd!" Uncle Lin couldn't believe his ears. Auntie Lin just stared at Li Junyue blankly, hoping that he could show some evidence to prove his words.

"I knew you guys wouldn't believe it. But look at my way of dressing. It's from that time period. Also, this is a letter that Xiao’hai wrote for you guys. It was written with calligraphy, like caterpillar strokes!" Lin Haihai's calligraphy had always been ridiculed as 'caterpillar strokes' by her family members. Uncle Lin glared at Li Junyue. "Junyue, I know that you are coming from a good place. However, this will only make us feel more heartbroken. Do you know that you are stabbing at our wounds?" Uncle Lin lamented in pain.

Auntie Lin took the letter and slowly opened it. She let out a small cry; this was her daughter's ugly calligraphy. She couldn't see it clearly as her tears blinded her. Li Junyue took the letter and slowly read it out. "Grandpa, Daddy, and Mummy, please listen to Stupid Bear. I have really transmigrated to an unknown ancient time!" Li Junyue looked up and saw tears in Uncle Lin's eyes. He slowly calmed down and looked at Li Junyue silently. Auntie Lin begged him to continue reading.

"I've already been here for over two months and slowly gotten used to this time period. You don't have to worry. Stupid Bear told me that you were all suffering from my death, and that made me feel horrible. Haihai is unfilial, and I will never be able to kneel in front of you or be your obedient baby any longer.

But please don't be sad, I'm doing very well. Everyone here treats me really well, and I have opened my own clinic and plantation field here. Here, I have a career, friends, and patients. Surely I should be very satisfied! However, Haihai just can't let you guys go, especially Grandpa; Grandpa has a weak heart. I told him to go for a medical examination before and he still avoided the doctor. How could I be assured? Grandpa, please promise me that you'll live well!

Daddy, do you still remember that you owe me a crystal apple? That was supposed to be my twelve-year-old birthday present. At that time in the mall, you said that you would give it to me on my birthday. But I've waited for so many years and yet I still haven't gotten your present. I don't blame you. My father is the best cardiologist, and his mind is always on his patients. Don't you know, you've always been my idol?

Silly Mummy, stop crying. I said that I would take some time out to take you shopping in Milan, but I'll have to break my promise! Please pack some clothes for me, and remember to put in my favorite floral skirt and my sports shoes. The shoes here are very uncomfortable. Sometimes, I can only wear long skirts and embroidered shoes when I go visiting. It rains a lot here, and there was even a typhoon recently. Simple clothes are very important, as I have to run across the entire mountain because of my plantation field.

Please don't worry about me, I've just gone to a different time and place. We're still living in sync to a certain extent. Daddy and Mummy, please take care of Grandpa for me, and take care of yourselves.

Also, please pass our photo album to Stupid Bear and he'll pass it to me. Please promise me that you won't be sad anymore. We have to continue living and not let each other worry. Promise me, your little baby, Xiao'hai."

Li Junyue's voice tapered off; the couple in the living room had long since begun crying. Auntie Lin wiped her tears off her cheeks, asking, "Is she doing well now?"

"She is. She opened a clinic with her own efforts, and won the love of many people. Also, there is a prince who likes her, and they might even get married soon!" Li Junyue's words were deceptive, but he cooked up a white lie to make them feel at ease. He had to make up this lie, as Xiao'hai was always complaining that her family had been urging her to get married when they chatted on QQ in modern times. After all, she was getting older and her family couldn't help but get anxious.

"Really? How is that prince's character? Is he good to her?" Auntie Lin immediately asked.

"That prince treats her pretty well, caring for and cherishing her like a panda. His character is good as well. Although he's young, he's already made contributions in court and doesn't take credit out of arrogance. He's humble, peaceful, and knowledgeable — a rare gentleman. In order to assure Uncle and Auntie Lin, Li Junyue seemed to have described Yang Hanlun as a perfect man. Sure enough, Uncle and Auntie Lin looked at each other and nodded in satisfaction.

"Oh right, where did you guys go?" Uncle Lin suddenly remembered this important question. Li Junyue recounted the process of their transmigration. Both of them were shocked after hearing it, their expressions remaining agape. Such strange things could happen in this world?

"Let's go to the hospital to visit Father, and we can take the opportunity to tell him this piece of good news!" Tears started flowing down Auntie Lin's cheeks. Ever since Haihai left, she had cried countless times and felt heartbroken. This was the first time that her tears had been induced by happiness. She felt excited.

However, she looked back at Li Junyue; he was a person who had gone missing for a while. She suddenly felt afraid, thinking, can we trust him? Is he even a real person? She was incredibly elated, just like the countless times she had dreamt of her daughter returning. Still, she had only ever woken up with tears on her pillow, grabbing at empty air. Could this be a dream as well?

"Yes, let's go to the hospital. I miss that old man too!" Li Junyue's voice was hoarse and tears welled up in his eyes. He couldn't stabilize his emotions.

"Yes, go into my room and have a change of clothes," said Uncle Lin.

As Auntie Lin watched Li Junyue walk into the room, fear rushed into her heart. Could this all be a dream? Is it really a dream? She covered her face and sobbed inconsolably.

Uncle Lin understood her inner turmoil and walked over to hold her in his arms. He consoled her, "Don't be afraid, this isn't a dream. Our daughter is really alive! Trust yourself and trust our child; she told us not to be sad because of her."

Auntie Lin looked up, her face stained with tears. She whimpered softly, "It doesn't matter if she's by my side, as long as she's alive. I'm just afraid, afraid that this is all a lie."

"It isn't a lie. I will slowly prove to you that Xiao'hai is definitely in another space-time and living very well." Li Junyue had changed into another outfit, and walked out when he overheard the conversation between the two. He walked over and took out the jewelry in the parcel, passing the contents to Auntie Lin. "These are things that Haihai passed to me. She told me to change them into money, and to give a portion to the orphanage and use the other portion for medicine. There's also a list for Yu Qing. She told me to ask Yu Qing to help her buy all those medical supplies. Senior Brother, you can take this to the hospital for Yu Qing."

Auntie Lin took the list and saw that it was written by Xiao'hai in her signature caterpillar strokes. She finally felt at ease. She passed the list of medical supplies to Uncle Lin, and she kept the other list asking to buy some underwear and female supplies. She could do this for her daughter.
