Chapter 42 - Betrayal

"What do you mean? what happened to my tribe? I ask worriedly.

"Demons raided your tribe, several were taken, dozens killed, Lord Mezal and Gorm were gravely injured.

After that, the Bloodyfang clan, and the Silverback tribe started attacking them, taking territory, and tribe members" says, Emperor Cernunnos, his eyes filled with sorrow.

Worried, I try to use the bond to find them, There is a faint tugging in a direction opposite to the clan, I inform Lord Tohil, and he sends two scouts off in that direction.

Feeling anger and sadness, I lose my temper before asking.

"Why did you let them? you said you wanted beastkin to help each other"

"It's against the rules of Blood Pavillion, they are completely within their right to raid a rival clan. Believe me young dragon, I wanted to stop them. But when I founded the Blood Pavilion, I had to make concessions to convince the clans and tribes to join it. Please understand"

Cernunnos tries to explain, but all I hear is excuses for why he couldn't help. Angry, I crawl towards the Rell's father who was dragged out by the Thousand Feather Clan.

"Where did you keep the Crimson Flame tribe members?" I ask coldly, wanting nothing more than to tear him apart.

"Haha, most of them are dead, they cried as we tore them apart, begged me to stop the experiments" he taunted.

Snarling, I pin his head down and rip one of his eyes out. Then I slice the tendons of his legs so he can't escape before asking.

"How many are still alive? tell me, and I will kill you quickly"

"Screw you, you pathetic snake! I wish your parents had killed you instead of letting you live. No matter what you do, you will always be a Thinblood, an outcast.

My only regret is I didn't take you when you were in my mines, how I would have made you beg for me to stop, as I experimented on you"

he says, his eye filled with madness.

Feeling numb, I rip his throat out before going over towards Selena, and Vanor. Her breathing faint, it's clear she will pass soon. Vanor is still glaring at her, clearly, his anger unabated.

"Did she tell you anything? I got nothing from the clan head."

"Just confirmed what we already knew, she also mentioned your tribe. Once we finish up here, we will go over there. And we will also be raiding the Silverback tribe.

According to her, they were in on it from the beginning" says Vanor, his eyes never leaving her face, watching her take her last breath.

Breathing deep, I turn towards Lord Tohil and say.

"Whatever you found inside, I don't care, just make me a copy of any doc.u.ments you found. After you are done l, burn the base down. If you find any of the survivors, please let me know"

After hearing his agreement, I head towards Rentil, stopping by Solam's body to check something. Turning his body over, I rip his cheat open and find a large spacial stone. Ignoring Cernunnos, I swallow it, storing it for later before turning to Rentil.

"We are going to check on my tribe, Clan head can you come with us?" I ask.

"I will arrive tomorrow, I can't fly again today. Go with Rantil, and all four of us will meet up tomorrow"

Rentil motions for me to get on. A few minutes later, we are up in the air again, this time in the direction of my tribe.

Up in the air, my thoughts begin to drift. My worry for my tribe, dread at which of them are dead, or missing. Anger at Cernunnos for just letting it happen, the frustration that I have to rely on others to get revenge.

All these thoughts, and feelings go through my head as we are in the air.

"In the end, you can only rely on yourself. Thinking Cernunnos wouldn't let anything happen to the tribe was clearly a mistake. I used others to get my revenge because I'm weak in the grand scheme of things.

I need to get strong enough that I don't have to do that. Powerful enough that I can't be dismissed, or looked at with contempt. Strong enough to take care of matters without anyone's help."

After an hour of flying, we arrive at the mountain range. Gliding down, I race towards the largest cave, where Lord Mezal lives. Calling out I rush inside before stopping dead in my tracks at what I see.

Mazal is laying down in a deep sleep. His right-wing has been shredded, and large burns cover his body, large seeping wounds are all over his body.

"Leave him be, for now, He took a beating"

Turning around, I see Gorm. His right eye is gone, and wounds litter his body. Clearly favoring his right side. He motions for me to follow him out.

"It's good to see you, The tribe needs some good news right now."

"I heard Demons attacked," I ask, sorrow filling my heart. More than likely Lord Mezal would never fly again.

"We got word that a whole battalion was coming through. Sent word the nearby allies, but only the Shifting Sands came. It was a brutal fight. We eventually made them withdraw but at a terrible cost.

Two days later, the Bloodyfang and the Silverbacks showed up and started taking members.

That's how Lord Mezal got hurt. He was fighting a steelbacked gorilla king when two members of the Bloodyfang attacked him from behind. We fought them off again, but again at a cost."

"I'm sorry, I should have come sooner," I say.

"Not to be rude Valoris, but you couldn't have done much," he says, trying to comfort me.

Hearing him, I smile bitterly, he is right in a way. Then I realize what the next move is, and give Gorm a bloody grin before saying

"I wouldn't be so sure about that. I have some guests coming"
