Chapter 4 - 4 Ancestor

2 months have passed during which the Kobold has spent the time exploring the cave system, and getting stronger by cultivating the energy he is getting from eating the drake rats.

He currently is 2 1/2 ft long, 1 ft tall with segmented blue and grey scales covering his muscular but lean body, 4 black horns 2 inches long out of the the top of his head behind his ears, 1 coming out of his snout, thick black curved claws, and tip of a black blade coming out of the tip of his tail.

Due to constantly eating magical bodies with a dragon lineage and having a mutated dragon core he increased his bloodline to Mid blood. Bloodlines determine potential, the higher the bloodline the more likely one will be able to evolve into a true dragon.

It also will make cultivating faster, kobolds with Pure bloodlines usually evolve into wyrms within a year. Low blood is the most common bloodline in the tribe with Midbloods earmarked for management positions in the tribe.

Purebloods are trained by the best and fed the best the tribe has to offer. The bloodlines go in the rank of potential Thinblood, Low blood, Mid blood, Pureblood, and Ancestor.

Ancestor bloodlines are when two dragonkin give birth to an offspring of a higher evolution then them. An example would two kobolds giving birth to a Wyrm. This bloodline is near-mythical with the alpha of the clan having a daughter being the only one with this bloodline in 4 generations.

As a Mid blood, the Kobold could escape the mine and gain the attention of the elders of the tribe and be showered with praise and be taken back in by his parents. But to him, this was not an option, he would never go back to the people who abandoned him.

They threw him away as if he was trash, so sure he would never be able to become strong. It angered him every time he thought about it and motivated him to become stronger.

Even more so now that he had a storm dragon lineage. Storm dragons are the undisputed rulers of the sky. While exploring the cavern the Kobold found what caused the rats to mutate.

It was the skeleton of an adolescent storm wyvern. A wyvern is usually 30-50 ft long, thick scales, instead of forelimbs, it has wings with claws. It's the first form that has Dragonfyre though a weakened form of it.

Any kobold, when given enough time, can become a wyrm. It takes high bloodline potential, and comprehension of the element they are cultivating to evolve into a wyvern.

As a natural-born wyvern, this adolescent was born so much higher on the food chain compared to the kobold. It might as well have been a God.

Sadly, it had been so long most of the bones had lost its magical energy the rest including the dragon stone had been consumed by the drake rats. However, the Kobold made sure to pay his respects to the ancestor who gave him the path towards strength.

As he went to a kneel with respect it triggered a blood memory through his storm dragon bloodline he shared with the wyvern. The Wyvern's name was Valoris Taleos Stormfury. In honor of how he had benefited from Valoris, the Kobold had decided to take his name as his own.

From now on he would be known as Valoris and one day the Bloodyfang would rue the day they enslaved him!

With the drake rat meat almost gone, Valoris began seriously exploring for a way out. Eventually, he found a small crack in the wall that had fresh-tasting air coming from it, as he began digging Valoris realized just how much stronger he had improved compared to when he was first taken to the mines.

His improvement was nothing short of a miracle. Most Thinbloods die within the first year either due to physical defects, starvation, or they are killed. As he digs the taste of fresh air gradually becomes stronger.

It took him a month and a half to finally break through to the outside. When he does Valoris is spellbound by the sight he sees. It's a lush green forest that covers as far as he can see. Huge trees that are hundreds of years old cover the land, the sounds of countless creatures can be heard.

Deciding first he needs to get far enough away he can't be caught and forced back. Valoris begins to crawl through the forest making sure to keep an eye out for any potential predators. Reaching a small stream he looks in the sky to see a mountain range in the distance.

"That's where I will make my den" Valoris decides as he begins to head in that direction.

:3 days later:

"Nearly there finally!" thinks Valoris as he limps on. He had been attacked 4 times during the last 3 days twice he managed to run away, the last time he wasn't able to and was about to be in a fight to the death against a Wind Wolf.

It had been only luck that allowed Valoris to survive. While fighting a different Wind Wolf from another rival pack had shown up. And the two wolves started to fight over territory while Valoris took the opportunity to limp away.

Coming up to the mountain range Valoris begins to dig deciding to create his own den over fighting a powerful creature over their own den. Digging goes quickly with the entrance barely big enough for Valoris to fit with the rest wide and spacious. For now, this would be home.
