One More Step

Kyra stared at Anna as she tried over and over again to stabilize her inner power. The anxiety on her face made her feel uncomfortable and sad, but as Guard Ao Theo told her that she will make more damage than good if she helps, she just waited.

Luckily it was a full moon so she could see Anna's face that became increasingly pale. In the end, she rushed and was about to help her when both Guards stopped her.

Both girls were stunned. Kyra looked at her Guard pleadingly. "I just in need to help her this time. Not every day..."

Both of them shook their head while glancing at Anna that had a bit of stubbornness on her face. Kyra couldn't see it as she looked at Guard Ao Theo. But they did. In silent agreement, they chose new tactics.

"If you help her again, both of your inner power would be hurt and you might lose your powers." They saw sadness spreading in Kyra's face while sarcasm was clearly shown on Anna's.

But as soon Kyra turned her head towards Anna she changed her expression into pure innocence. "Kyra, they are lying. It is not the first time you calm my inner powers. They are just scaring us."

Kyra was about to say something but saw how strange their expressions were so she gave up saying it. She turned to Anna that looked like pure innocence and felt headache upcoming. It was her fault that Anna became spoiled as she always helped her stabilize her powers just to finish up their duties faster.

She had no idea that she would turn her into someone lazy to raise own powers. ''Today is the last time I will help you as we have no time to lose. But as soon we come back I think it is best if you start training with your Guard. You need to get stronger. Think about it, Anna. If something happens to me and I get hurt, with your unstable power can you even save my life? Or yours?''

Anna's breath stocked. Her eyes narrowed as she looked at the Elder and then nodded her head. ''Fine Kyra. I shall do that. I will try to stabilize my powers myself, can you do it this last time?''

Kyra was about to get near when Elder stopped her. ''She has her Guard. he will stabilize her power. It is his duty, but only today. As soon as you two come back we will start rigorous training with both of you separately. Only laws will be learned together.''

Anna felt anger upcoming but she knew she had to hold it in. ''That is fine with me. Actually, I do not feel men touching me very comfortable so can Kyra not ...last time...'' She beggingly looked at Kyra but Elder Kai got angry.

''Enough! Why should he touch you? Stabilizing power has nothing to do with skins touching. Foolishness. Stop bothering Anna. Kyra needs to save as much power she can for your upcoming task. If you fail your part of the task, I might separate you two completely, understood?'' He was this time really angry.

Kyra is a bit stronger than Anna but from reports he got from their guards, Kyra would deplete her powers every time to help Anna stabilize or even refill hers. It made him so angry. He never met such an unreasonable child on Eluron. Is it because she grew up in this country?

Anna just pouted while looking in grievance at Kyra, but she saw Kyra motioning at Elder and shaking her head. Kyra as well couldn't help her as she wished so she just waited for Guard to help her.

But actually, he didn't do much. Just snapped his fingers and calmed her insides completely. She grudgingly looked at him but saw his cold gaze so she lowered her eyes. He just snorted and was about to sit down. On the floor, he looked at her. ''Come. you need to learn shield now. Unfortunately for you, in this case, no one can help you, not even Kyra. Only you can help yourself.''

Anna stared at him realizing his words. ''Does that mean the shield... the shield cant help two or three people. My parents once told me strong people can protect at least one more person f they spread their powers.''

Guard Bathuk shook his head. ''That is indeed possible, but only in case of emergency. And that shield is not stable. I say if Kyra tries to protect you, she wouldn't be bale. Her powers are too low. To have such high powers to protect others that person must become Protector. I, as Guard, can protect only myself. Not even I have enough power to say it cover your body with a protective shield to save you from the epidemic.''

Kyra nodded. She expected that. Inner power that she held, she already knew how far she can go with it. That is the reason she gave it up to Anna. But she never expected that she would harm Anna with that. Helping her made her just crippled. She knew about the power but had no idea how to use it right. From now on she will let Anna learn all by herself. Or it will become harder for them.

She pulled Anna to sit opposite from Guard Bathuk and to concentrate. ''I think you have an amazing guard. Please listen to him carefully. I will go and sleep a bit more.''

Anna laughed. ''Fine, fine. I shall do what you said. Go to sleep. I will do my best to learn it properly.''

Kyra nodded and as soon she laid down she fell asleep. But this time Guard Ao Theo helped her right away. He sighed as he looked at Guard Bathuk's face that became darker and darker as he tried to explain. But the worst thing is, Anna didn't listen at all.

He just passed him and patted his shoulder. ''I am lucky am I not?''
