One More Step

''We don't know when, but your family suddenly appeared in this world. Somehow they were lucky to arrive on our continent where people more open-minded. When the heads of our tribe saw that your family members had quite an amount of power they were happy. Your Kazis family became after a few years a middle point of our way of life. But they thought us many things. Being good is not always the way if you want to fight the world. Or continent is actually so huge that not all parts of it were explored.'' His words made Kyra wonder.

''Is that continent bigger than this one?'' She wondered as she could literally feel the size of this land.

He just proudly rose his head and looked down towards the city. ''This so calling continent is nothing than small speck of dust next to our continent. This so-called country is just part of the huge amount of islands that call themselves Empire. But no matter what, our continent is so huge that no people ever finished exploring the inside of it.''

She realized his words. ''So what you want to say is that outside you have been in all corners but inside the continent is an unknown zone?''

He nodded. ''It took our people a few millennia just to explore the shores of our continent. If one city of another side of the continent sends the message it would take at least five years to arrive in perfect conditions. No joke.''

The curiosity in her was sparked. ''Where is now Kazis family?''

''Your mother and grandmother appeared few years before coming here in the capital city. They were doctors with different kinds of powers. As it seems only girls would have powers. And never the same power.''

He went silent for a moment and then continued with a heavy expression on his face. ''Your grandmother was someone who could read fast and learn only by that. We hoped she would stay here but she followed her daughter that foolishly got in love with that man and she shouldn't have. Her becoming sick was not a simple matter. She has been poisoned. But we need to find out who did that and why...''

Kyra strangely looked at him and nodded. ''I guessed that much. My fear is that someone from Lord Jong's surroundings found out and di that so he could be free. And unfortunately, I have a couple of people in my mind. But I am not sure.''

The silence fell down on the three people sitting. the guard, the old man and girl that stared at the twinkling stars. Her voice broke through the silence. ''The world that I came from is so posted from the dust, dirt and garbage in the air than you cant see stars even if there is a clear day. The sun doing the daytime s covered with a layer of mist and doing nighttime you can't see the Moon. When I arrived to this world I felt so... free. My heart was so filled with the smells, tastes and views. So many beautiful colors. That is why I painted the whole hose into so many colors. I can rest my eyes on colorful background even if the outside is everything white.''

She inhaled deeply the air and smile spread towards her eyes. ''I like being in nature. Between trees and plants and air. I makes me feel so happy. Anna is a good child and likes people, that is why I'm sure she is perfect to become a healer. For me... I will continue living as before. Planting vegetables and herbs. Living well and eating well. I am truly not interested in some games with those nobles.''

He coughed when he heard that. ''Actually, we came here for a reason...''

He could feel her back becoming stiff and the cold air spreading fro inside her beings. ''Wait, let me explain.''

The tea on the table became cold but even cold it tasted amazing. He gulped the whole tea down and started explaining. ''Actually, we need your help. I know you have your own plans and would actually be long gone from here if there was no Anna and Lord Jong. So we choose to ask you to help us while you are still here.''

He saw her nodding slightly as she watched the moon silently. ''Our price is planning to come here and get engaged with one noble here or with one of the princesses. Like that we want to be able to help out this place without b pointed with the finger. Our country has that deal with the Empire. Once in a hundred years, they choose one of the islands to make a marriage connection. After that, the island can have a direct connection to us and will be protected from us for 99 years.''

''99 years?'' She didn't understand.

''If in those 99 years someone did some evil against our people or harmed innocent. Worked to harm our country or many more. In that one year, we would annihilate the country and turn it literally into dust. One year do the people have to find other places to live. Accept those that did bad things.''

He sighed looking at her scrunched eyebrows.

She chuckled coldly. ''Why wait 99 years? Why can't you just destroy all the bad people straight away in that time and leave the country free of human sc.u.m.''

He sighed. ''Our forefathers made that deal. But the thing is. The moment our country and the country we make a contract with becoming one, they have to deal with all the things by our laws. Actually, we didn't plan to make this country one of our regions for a while as it has no stable politic backup. But the moment we found out about you, we choose to make this agreement for your sake.''

Kyra held her head. ''Are you people crazy or dumb?!''

He stared at her not understanding why she said that.

At that moment she almost started cursing at them. To stop herself she patted her c.h.e.s.t a few times and inhaled deeply. ''There is absolutely no reason to do that. can't you pull back out that deal?''

There was silence for a moment and she saw his face is complicated. ''Actually, we could, but that would make us lose our face and our word would loose on its strength. If the country pulls back, that is another thing. But how can we make them give up on this chance?''

Kyra started walking and thinking. What could make them back off?

Whole night she was walking and neither one of two men stopped her. In the early morning when first light hit the fields and slowly crawled towards her house she stopped. the light lit her eyes into golden color and her hair looked like set on fire.

''I have way, but you need to help me.'' She had that idea but would it work?
