One More Step

Finally, by each step, they came closer to the light source. But on the entrance ere bushes and grasses so they couldn't see clearly what was from the other side.

The slowly opened their way through the bushes and a breathtaking sight opened in front of their astonished eyes.

Trough the sealing of huge cave light was falling on the corner if a flat surface of a sea that was on one side. On the other side was an empty place where most sunlight shone.

One opposite wall was a couple of openings as well and they could see just blue sky.

"This place could be the perfect hiding spot in case of the emergency. Don't you think?"

Anna was engrossed in the view that she didn't react after Kyra's comment.

But soon. she snapped back. "This place... I like it."

"Let's see inside. Maybe this could become our base and hiding spot. The entrance we can secure with something..."

While they walked around the place they realized that the place is really perfect.

Clean water that was only waist deep. On the other side, the dry side had enough space for them to imagine many things.

"We can make a small house here. There we could even place some chickens and some more things. I want yo see what is outside."

Anna was excited now. She rushed to the openings from the other side and gasped.

When Kyra came bear she realized Anna's reaction.

It seems from another side of the hill was just a straight stone wall going deep down and showing the beautiful view from the other side.

"We even have windows. This kind of place is just amazing. Let's check the whole place."

The girls started checking every corner of the cave and were amazed by their findings.

Space was big enough for a small house and garden s well. They could even live here without a problem actually.

''Anna, there is something here. Come help me.'' There was somehow entrance to another cave but was filled with multiple stones.

It took them some time before they could clear some of the stones and they crawled into the next space that made them grasp even more.

It was bigger. From the top of the cave, multiple lights shone on green grass and small trees while small streams wiggled its way trough them ending up to the wall where the lake was. Everything seemed to be connected.

''It's so beautiful.'' The girls looked around and realized that from the other side was a huge space filled with all kinds of wild grasses and small bushes.

''We could just set up few chickens there and let them lay eggs, and maybe few rabbits as well. This place could become our hiding port.'' Anna always was practical while Kyra was the one to be adventurous but strong and filled with ideas.

"This time we need to build the house ourselves. It looks nice now but if the bad weather starts and stormy winds come up, here it will be too cold to sleep in. So we really need a house. Should we use some wigs to make a simple house or should we use mud as well?''

Anna looked around and shook her head. ''Such a house here is not possible to make. The air draft is too heavy. What bout we use the stones and for the top of the house, we can use branches and dried grass. The holes between the stones we can fill in with clay earth. In this case, we can make a stone fireplace as well.''

Kyra nodded. They had enough material now. ''Those stones are now perfect. Let us get the horses and let them grass over there and we can start making a base fireplace. We can build tomorrow. For today we walked enough.''

They distributed their tasks. Anna will go and get the horses while Kyra will find a good spot for their basecamp. She found one corner of the cave to have a smaller dent in and was hidden from direct aircraft from outside. She made a fireplace with stones in mid of it and went out to search for dry branches.

Anna just let the horses walk at the cave meadow and saw Kyra coming in with a big pack of the dry branches. She dragged it near the fireplace and then went out to get more.

Anna rushed to help her with a confused face.

''Why do you gather so much? Isn't this enough for tonight?'' She saw almost a hill of dry branches.

''The weather is changing lately. There are so many dry branches now but if one rain falls they will turn into smoke and not heating material. It is not a bad idea to gather as many as possible. After all, we will sleep outside. If we can warm up bit this corner we will be able to sleep well tonight.'' She turned around and rushed to get more and Anna without asking any further questions rushed to help her.

They even found multiple thinner fallen trees and as they broke off their branches and pulled them into the cave they realized how long the cave tunnel was actually.

One tree after another started piling up and they gathered as many tree stumps, branches and similar. Then they used the branches to makeshift the entrance and used a couple of bigger stones to close the entrance so they wouldn't have some strange visitors at night.

Before all that, they erased their trails and doing around the entrance and when they came into the cave the sun was already tunning reddish.

Kyra actually made ready everything so she just needed to make fire. After multiple tries, the soft light of fire spread in a cave making it less eerie and soon the amazing smell spread around.

Kyra prepared simple dish but as they were both hungry this dish turned to be as tasty as anything else.

Fried bacon with dried vegetables, rice and wild onion porridge. The taste was so amazing that they ate until they were full. Then they saw two stones that they could use to hang their hanging beds and quickly entered into dreamland after pulling a few big chunks of old dry wood over the fire.

It burned the whole night leaving enough embers for their day afterward.

That night etherealized that they really need the house.

So after long consideration, they choose to use this place as their start. It already had a couple of big stones that could be the base for the house and they could just pile up more on sides. There were enough branches that they could use to cover it all and the dry grass they could find later on. For now, the basic need has to be to make sides of the house so the wind won't enter.

Kyra looked at one huge stone that fell over some other stones and remembered one story about warm bed. So she explained it to Anna and she just shrugged it off.

''Try it. If it works well we can sleep peacefully here for a while.'' She helped Kyra carry as many stones as she could and when the bed was done they made stone chimney to the outside and use couple embraces to light the fire.

Anna sat on the bed and felt in amazement the stone giving off light warmth.

''This is amazing!'' While Kyra thought about more ideas. ''I hope we will be able to sleep nicely tonight''

She turned around as she didn't hear anything from Anna and when she followed the line of sight she was this time really baffled...
