Once Upon A Star

Chapter 30 - Crazy woman

Ming Lan's screams could be heard by her family, who were growing more and more concerned with her mental state. Her mother stood up and hurried towards her daughter's bedroom, gently knocking on the door. "Darling, please open the door. We're worried about you. Your father, older brother and I will always be on your side, you're not alone. We can leave China and start a new life elsewhere so please just open the door." Her pleas were met with silence before a crash resounded inside the room.

The rest of the Ming family gathered at her door, frantic with concern. "Ming Lan, what's wrong?! Ming Lan, open the door right now!"

On the other side of the door, Ming Lan was staring at her reflection dully. Hearing her family's concerned cries, she smirked and threw her head back, roaring with laughter. "YOU USELESS FOOLS! IT'S YOUR FAULT AS WELL. T-that's right! It IS your fault! This family is F.U.C.K.I.N.G TRASH! If only I was born to a more powerful family...WHY?! WHY was I born to such good for NOTHING parents.." gasps followed those harsh words, her family gritting their teeth in sorrow and rage.

They should've known this would've happened, yet why did they continue to let her do as she wished? From a young age, Ming Lan was a strange child. So strange that her own parents feared her for a number of years, feared for what she was capable of. Ming Lan was not a particularly outstanding child, all she had was her pretty face, and even then she was not unique in that aspect. Perhaps it was because of her insecurities towards her own older brother, who had everything, looks and talents, that she directed all of her misgivings and jealousy towards other people.

Her mind became sick with the idea of perfection, she studied for years upon years to be the smartest, diligently cared for her appearance to capture her ideal self. What started off as a fantasy became a deranged obsession, her negative feelings festering beneath the surface until one day she snapped and turned against one of her female classmates. She hated the girl for having a much more prettier face and higher grades, so she had to get rid of her.

The next day, the female classmate was found locked in spare room with blood all over her, her face bashed into the concrete floor. The girl's appearance was ruined and visibly shivered at the name 'Ming Lan'. Ming Lan was only 9 years old at this time. Ming Lan's parents spared no efforts in trying to reel her in, taking her to many psychologists to sort out her condition. Fortunately, Ming Lan stopped lashing out at others for the next couple of years of her own will. She apologised for her behavior, seemingly fine, and her family was relieved, thinking that she had finally m.a.t.u.r.ed.

Except... except that she wasn't. Oh, no, not at all. Just the opposite. Ming Lan learned how to deceive her worthless parents. This is where she discovered her true talent in acting. It was easy enough for her. Ming Lan swept the contents of the table onto the floor, grabbing her shoes and chucking them across the room. It was over. All over. And that BITCH, she took away HER fans, HER fame, HER glory. She was nothing more than a disgusting homos.e.x.u.a.l! The Ming Lan of now was a mesh of all of her pent up emotions that she has hidden over the years, the facade was gone.

Her mind was on the fringe of insanity, as she panted and pulled on the strands of her hair hard, ripping them from her scalp. She kneeled down and g.r.o.a.n.e.d, banging her throbbing head onto the floor. She couldn't think properly and her eyes shifted to the scissors on the floor, zooming in on them. Her lips pulled back into a creepy smile but before anything could take place, her phone rang.

Yuan Xing was texting Jing Fei on WeChat, reminding her that things were far from over and not to get too complacent.

#PirateKing: What are you planning to do with Tang Mei?

Queenoftheworld: I'm working on it! Don't rush me *pout*

#PirateKing: Do you at least know why she would do something like this to you?

Queenoftheworld: ...not yet?

Yuan Xing sighed. She sometimes wondered how Jing Fei managed in the entertainment industry for so long.

Queenoftheworld: I'll try investigating people close to Li Jing...me and Tang Mei don't have a bad relationship, she probably was forced to?

#PirateKing: Mhmm, good thinking. Call you later.

Yuan Xing switched off her phone and sat back down on her couch, resuming to binge watch her favourite anime, One Piece. Some things you just couldn't live without. Anime and manga would usually take up a big portion of her time if she wasn't so busy doing other stuff. She remembered a delinquent had once insulted her a long time ago about being an otaku. Skip over to the next week, he refused to leave his house and go to school. Moral of the story: never mess with a weeb, we're very good at remembering past grudges.
