01. A Fatal Mistake

“Get up.”

[ Stop it, get up, Sister! ]

The angelic, blonde-haired girl’s small hands tapped her on the shoulder.

[ Get uuupppp! ]

Her voice was trembling, sounding as if she was holding back tears. In a way, the girl must be feeling desperate. But since being hit with the hand of only a four or five-year-old child wasn’t much, it felt like being hit by a cat’s cotton paws.

‘Ah, this is an old dream.’

As soon as she saw the girl’s face, Claire knew when this had happened. It’s a dream from the day she regained her memories of her previous life.

Perceptually, it was the day after her death.

‘I got hit by a truck.’

It was the third week since she realized that an ordinary wage-earner like herself, who’s working overtime, could never just casually flirt with a young and handsome third generation chaebol. That kind of thing only happens in dramas.

Her new boss—the new manager—was young, handsome, and the grandson of the group owner. On top of that, he was being obvious about having a crush on her.

However, as she was still working under this new manager until ten in the evening for three weeks straight, she was really starting to miss the big-bellied previous manager who allowed her to go home on time.

What workers needed was labor rights, not a savior on a white horse. Coincidentally the manager’s car was a white Porsche.

While they were arguing as he refused to give her a ride, a truck swerved right onto the sidewalk.

‘Perhaps the driver was also drowsy from overtime work, too…’

Claire thought so, and in her heart she forgave the driver.

If it wasn’t for the reincarnation truck, she might not actually exist in this world.

In any case, she was reborn as Claire, the eldest daughter of Baron Delford. She realized this fact very naturally.

Before remembering her past life memories, Claire was dissatisfied. She was dissatisfied with being part of a household that’s just a barony at most—just another trivial southern noble.

Besides that, she was dissatisfied with being poor, dissatisfied with not having a wonderful brother. Another dissatisfaction was that she was not outstandingly beautiful.

But after getting her memories back, it’s completely different.

‘A noble, awesome. It might not be a gold spoon, but it’s at least a silver spoon, right?’

Humans were naturally content when thinking in comparison.

Although the level of civilization in this world was inferior to that of modern times, at least Claire’s life itself wasn’t unimaginably uncomfortable. What she had was definitely not enough that she could just lay back and enjoy. Still, at least she didn’t have to work.

Meals came out on their own in the morning. When she got up from her seat after eating, someone would clean it up for her. When she took off her clothes, someone washed them and hung them on hangers, and the bathtub was cleaned.

She could call a maid and tell her to fetch water. She could tell her attendants to make tea if just water wasn’t good enough. She didn’t have to throw the tea leaves into the trash on her own.

‘Niiice, the life of an aristocrat is the best.’

With this kind of life, she could happily live her entire life sufficiently, doing nothing for the next thirty years or so.

Well, things didn’t turn out that way.

[ Sister, Sister, are you okay? ]

Her younger sister looked down at her, crying.

Her lovely little sister Elisa. Claire used to hate Elisa, but that wasn’t the case anymore after she regained her memories of her past life.

Claire hated Elisa ever since Elisa was inside her mother’s womb. Claire must have had a hard time accepting that she was no longer an only child.

Besides, Elisa was born with the pretty blonde hair and jewel-like blue eyes that Claire longed for, so her jealousy was amplified even more because of that.

Well, ‘that’ wasn’t very important to Claire anymore though.

Claire’s memories, as she was barely nine years old, quickly faded as she was overwhelmed by memories of her previous life. Elisa was a child Claire had to look after, not someone to compete with.

After their parents died, Elisa really became a child Claire had to take care of.

She had no complaints. Elisa was an angel. She wondered if there were only such pretty and gentle children in the world.

[ Sister, w-what a relief. ]

[ What is? ]

[ I kept calling you, but you didn’t open your eyes, Sister. So I thought you were dead. ]

Elisa’s voice kept going down and she burst into tears. Claire muttered.

“I’m not dead.”

“Since you know you’re not dead, why don’t you open your eyes now? Claire.”

Instead of Elisa’s canary-like voice, a man’s reverberating voice answered her instead.

Claire widened her eyes in surprise.

And she stared blankly at the blue eyes in front of her nose.

Elisa’s eyes were also blue, but not this deep and dark. If Elisa’s eyes were the color of the clear sky, these eyes were a cold ultramarine blue reminiscent of the North Sea.

Those pupils contained depth. The eyelashes were golden brown, and the eyebrows were a little more blonde than that.

His tall-bridged nose was close enough to touch Claire’s cheek. The alabaster sheen of his skin was characteristic of northern nobles, but this man’s skin was practically flawless. As if he had been sculpted with ivory-colored clay, that even his veins were not showing through.

The brilliant golden hair was disheveled on his white forehead.

Claire knew a man of such beauty very well. She murmured in a dazed voice.

“Senior[1] Erich…?”

The skin he touched got warm. It became hot inside the thin blanket.

“Can you pull yourself together now?”

Erich spoke again. The low vibration of his voice passed through her body.

Only then did Claire really come to her senses. Then she realized that her body beneath the covers was completely naked.

“OHH?!?”

She jumped up with a half-scream.

“Careful now.”

Erich said sharply and pulled the blanket over her and around her neck. Claire responded sharply to him as well.

“Am I the only one who’s naked now?”

“Men and women are the same.”

“What else is there?”

Claire tossed the covers down. Then Erich quickly looked away from her.

As she was covering her chest, it didn’t look like he was the same. Unlike Claire, who at least covered her lower back with the sheet, but Erich on the other hand…

Claire’s gaze, which had gone down, swooped back up again. Fire bloomed on her cheeks.

This didn’t make sense.

She didn’t want to admit it. What happened last night.

However, even if she wanted to deny reality, her body was making it loud and clear to her first.

Ridiculous.

But what happened last night was evident enough.

“How on earth did this happen?”
