Chapter 48 - Confronting the Sword of Blood

"We will win this war!" Meyneak yelled, feeling invincible. It was almost as if he had forgotten his wounds, trying to raise his left arm which was dismembered by Miur.

"Tenmo chose the best warriors for this to not be an unfruitful endeavour so that it wouldn't be a fruitless trip. I believe it, we can kill them all!" Aneak said, slowly walking up to Meyneak. "I used up the artefact, we'll have to retreat and-"

"And what?" Meyneak chuckled and turned to Aneak, only seeing a blank expression as a mouthful of bright-red blood gushed out.

"Aneak!" the warrior yelled once more, gripping his hammer with all his strength, looking for a target.

Aneak was already a corpse by the time he hit the ground, but there was nobody behind him. Or anyone that may have attacked him. He then saw the vampire he presumed to have killed was no longer there.

"It's my fault!" Meyneak cried and started swinging his hammer around. "Are you invisible, you bastard!"

"I haven't had such a headache for an awfully long time. I commend you," Miur said, his claws taking Meyneak's other arm. "Some vampires boast a more powerful regeneration ability that we may inherit from our primogenitor, Ralio."

Meyneak lashed out to bite Miur. His teeth seemed to be his only remaining weapons. He was seething. Miur spun his leg forward to send this large creature on the ground, who couldn't even get up properly without the aid of his arms.

"I crushed his heart, could you see it?" Miur's sinister laugh echoed in the battlefield. Meyneak jumped up, exerting all the strength in his legs to charge him one more time. Miur used his momentum and just a little strength to puncture his c.h.e.s.t, as well. With nothing to defend himself, the frenzied Meyneak had his heart ripped out by Miur and just before he died, he could see it beat one more time before it stopped.

"Unfortunately for you, I happen to be one of the progenitors who have the ability."

Sons of Shadow had stayed at a safe distance, clearing out the lizardmen and were finally hopeful for a moment, that this Miur bastard had died.

"Commanders have died! Retreat!" some soldiers started yelling. There was still a majority of them alive, but this foolish call from an unknown soldier caused chaos within their ranks. Although ghouls were mostly taken care of, the vampires led by Jack and Annette had finally torn through, killing and maiming many of them. Sons of Shadow was also another group, catching the army in a pincer attack.

The soldiers who saw their leaders' deaths could not believe their eyes. Their fear grew stronger, their numbers had started dwindling and they could not see how they could defeat an immortal army without the help of their two behemoths.

"Retreat!" and many such orders were heard on the battlefield, but these vampires who enjoyed fresh blood did not let them. The fighting went on, and while this hectic environment ensued, Hell was doing something else, deciding to torture the demon-like creature with six wings and four horns residing inside his Sword of Blood. He had continued to torture the creature for hours already and he had gone through 40 vampires.

"Have you had enough?" Hell asked. He had no more copies anymore, but he was still far stronger than any of these boosted vampires, it wasn't an issue for him to beat up and kill them.

"Even the Player Killer couldn't break me, and you think you will?" the demon yelled. "I am Asmodeus, the Demon of Wrath!"

"Yes, yes. Big bad demon. How did you possess me before?" Hell asked, he was completely unaffected by the demon's demeanour.

"I didn't." Asmodeus guffawed. "If you dare use me as a weapon, I'll eventually make you lose control again, and have you slay your loved ones!" he said, but no longer attacked Hell directly. He had already understood he wouldn't be given a strong-enough host to beat Hell. "Your mother, father, all will be dead!"

"They have… passed. You should just be a good sword and let me use you," Hell said and followed up by burning him to a crisp using his Fire Arrow, an ability he hadn't had a chance to use after acquiring it during his confrontation with Lirger's army. He had also used his Gaze of Pain to be sure, but it seemed no matter how much mana he used, it wouldn't matter. He then asked for another vampire to be sent inside. Aurus had enough of these barbaric acts, but he still did as he was asked. He would discuss this with Lord Virgil later.

Possessing yet another vampire, Asmodeus's face broke into a sinister grin. "I also know you have a brother. I wonder how his heart tastes."

Hell's eyes were wide open as his heart started racing once more. "I have been too nice to you until now. You dare threaten my brother? My brother?!"

Hell's Bestial Aura grew more violent. It became tangible in the air and covered the entire room, it was similar to seeing your surroundings with a red-ish filter. A creature with sharp teeth and empty eye sockets slowly appeared from the aura right behind Hell as its long arms slowly reached out to Asmodeus and gripped his throat with knife-like claws.

"What are you?" Asmodeus asked.

"What am I?" Hell mumbled. "I will show you."

The barbaric King shot forward and before Asmodeus could even lift a finger, its new body's heart was already in Hell's hands. The corpse fell and became slumped on the floor. Hell then gripped the Sword of Blood and felt again a rush into his mind. It was an odd pressure he felt, but it wasn't anything more than a nuisance. Hell tried to relax, imagined a door into his mind opening and then fell on the ground, unconscious.

"Welcome again!" a voice echoed in pitch-black emptiness around Hell. Red flames from hell suddenly rose in columns all around, lighting up the place. Hell finally saw a figure sitting on a throne ahead. The figure was surrounded by black flames, he had six wings behind him and four horns on his head. The figure's features looked more distinguishable this time around. It looked to be a teenager, not older than Jack.

"I have possessed saints and the warriors of God. I'll control your body, too. Then I'll know better what you are." Asmodeus didn't look frustrated nor enraged after Hell's torture. "I tried to deal with you before when I thought you were but a lowly human. But now I think I can use your body to rise again."

"What do you think I am?" Hell asked.

"I have seen the box, too," Asmodeus added. "You must be a spiritual being who found a body. I'll learn soon enough, and the first thing I'll do will be hunting your brother."

Hell's ragged breathing made him feel like he was on the edge. He then commanded: "Come out!"

A box appeared out of nowhere. It landed on Hell's hand. The box seemed to be unstable, it shook as whatever was inside tried to get out.

"Did you know that I tried to summon djinns once, to see if they were real?" Hell started monologuing. "I was just a kid back then."

"I just didn't believe it. But once I tried it, it was a different type of sleep that night. And the following nights."

"You called, and they came. Is that it?" Asmodeus commented with a smirk and waved his hand, causing one of the fire columns to turn and shoot toward Hell.

Hell jumped out of the way very quickly. Even if he didn't have quite the access to his supernatural abilities in this dream space, he still could use his imagination to boost himself, somewhat replicating his abilities in real life.

"They came, indeed. A lot of them. Eventually, I rid myself of them by locking all these nightmares in this box I created in my mind." Hell was still furious, but he thought his methods weren't brutal enough for the bastard in front of him. He crashed the box in between his hands, and oddly enough, nothing but some smoke seemed to be inside.

The smoke slowly started congealing into horrifying shapes and unworldly creatures. Each one of these creatures looked rabid and wanted to bite at anything close by. However, they didn't dare lay a finger on Hell.

"I soon got used to lucid dreaming, and I hunted each of these creatures down in my dreams. Well, rather, nightmares," Hell said and pointed at Asmodeus. "Why don't you have a taste, too?"

Shadowy, monstrous creatures around Hell had turned completely solid and finally lunged at Asmodeus, the Demon of Wrath.

"You think these puny things could harm me?"

"You disgusting creature!" Hell spat the words out. "This is the world of dreams, their strength won't feel so puny."

The first creature to approach Asmodeus looked to have the head of a human woman and the body of a lizard. She stood taller than a regular human even while on her four feet. Although her head looked human, the teeth looked savage and bloody.

Asmodeus punched her, opening a hole in her stomach but she still bit Asmodeus, much to his surprise, tore a chunk of flesh from his face, leaving a blood-covered gash behind.

Asmodeus realised that it truly didn't matter what these creatures were as long as he was in this dream space. He realised he couldn't get out, either. He took into the air but the creatures seemed to follow right behind him. "You did this!" Asmodeus roared and lunged at Hell again.

Hell finally replied with a smile and snapped his fingers. "I'll wake up from this nightmare, but you won't."

Hell came to himself in the middle of the hall he had been fighting with the vampires while Aurus held a bloody gash on his c.h.e.s.t. Trying to talk Hell into calming down.

Hell noticed he must have done some awful things again while under the control of the sword. He turned to Aurus: "Sorry, it seems I lost control again."

"King Hell, you should stop using that sword," Aurus pleaded.

"Ridiculous. I am punishing the annoying bastard inside the sword."

"You are punishing the sword?" Aurus barely got the words out with laboured breathing, his throat was crushed.

"Never mind that. How much time do we have left?"

"Around six more hours."

"Good, good! Let's see how the others are doing. We'll leave a bit early just in case, then," Hell said and took to the sky with his Flying ability. Soon after he left the palace, he noticed his army had congregated before his city and still pouring outside. He silently came closer to see what was happening.

Of course, everyone with any proper awareness had noticed an evil force was rapidly approaching toward them. Virgil was the first to notice, followed by Nile, Miur and the lizardmen who had never seen such an impossible enemy. The vampires started cheering more and more and lizardmen's hearts began racing more and more as the man with a large red face behind him approached like the messenger of death.

"Oops, it seems everyone sees me. How do I close this damn thing?" Hell mumbled to himself.

"Lord Hell, as you can see, we are about to achieve an overwhelming victory," Virgil spoke as he bowed. He had also noticed Hell held the Sword of Blood and it seemed to be already covered in blood. As he worried as he was, he kept quiet to inquire Aurus later.

"Ah, yes, shouldn't we have them join us, too?" Hell wondered. It wouldn't be feasible normally, but these creatures would only be working for yet another ruler they hated.

Hell fell into the battlefield like a meteor before waiting for Virgil's reply. He slowly rose and addressed the surrounded lizardmen and the vampires.

"Lizard-things of wherever! I am King Hell. Join me."

"Who the hell would join you with that flimsy speech?!" one of the lizardmen yelled. "We are proud lizardmen of Tenmo!"

Other lizardmen also started chanting the name of their country. "Tenmo! Tenmo! Tenmo!"

The lizardman who spoke up suddenly found Hell in front of himself abruptly. And in the very next moment, he was already cut in half by the Sword of Blood.

A bout of silence started from next to the dead lizardman, ensuing slowly with the rest of them like a game of Chinese whispers.

"I will bring down the Queen of Manipulation. Join me, or die here and become an insignificant pebble on my path."

The ones closer to Hell could already smell the creeping death on Hell, they didn't dare move a muscle but when the murderous King's gaze fell upon them, they could only nod and say "Yes!" with all their might.

"It is always a sight to see," Virgil commented. He couldn't hear what Hell was saying, but he figured what was going on.

"What is happening?" Nile asked.

"He is etching a primal type of fear into those lizardmen. They just lost their commander and their numbers are barely a fifth of what they started with. They'll yield."

"Primal fear? How does it work?"

"It's one of his strengths," Virgil explained. "Any living being can feel it once something decides to definitely kill you. That is the type of aura he radiated even before he started using that ability of his."

"I see," Nile replied. Before she could ask further, Aurus came running from the distance with approximately fifty vampires following him. The gash on his c.h.e.s.t was yet to heal. The damage caused by the Sword of Blood always took longer to heal.

"Lord Virgil!" Aurus yelled. "We are here, is something happening?"

"King Hell has it under control. How were you hurt?" Virgil understood it wasn't too serious, so he was still composed.

"King Hell used that sword again. He was standing right in the middle of the room without moving or speaking any coherent sentences. He was grumbling at best. When I tried to approach him, this happened."

"Furthermore," Aurus added. "This is what was left from the hundred after our King's query to each of them."

"I'll talk to King Hell. Anything else?"

"He wants to leave for the Ancient Mountains earlier than expected."

"Understood," Virgil replied and turned to the vampires behind Aurus. "You have missed a great battle, the least you could do now would be to welcome the fierce warriors outside. Prepare drinks and food!"

Even though Hell's wanton rampage had caused almost the entire population of the city to cease, Virgil was still smart enough to secure some cooks and such before they were killed.

The situation outside ended as expected. Faced with such an immense force, the lizardmen either became deranged and attacked only to be mowed down, or taken by fear and fell on the ground, helpless. Of course, they could barely be trusted, but using them on frontlines was also an option.

Hell ordered for them to be turned and the number who finally accepted to both join and be turned into a vampire numbered around two hundred. The rest were quickly disposed of by Hell's Knights Jack and Annette, as well as the vampire army under them. The duo had also struck fear in the hearts of many during the battle.

Jack's wild, beast-like attacks and Annette's claws scorching through whatever they cut. Both were incredible warriors on the battlefield. Not many could identify Miur who killed the two lizardmen this entire army was depending on, but he didn't quite care about fame. He only enjoyed the battle.

Of the two hundred that accepted the transformation, an unfortunate amount of eighty had died. It was still an addition of around a hundred to Hell's army after recouping the losses. Hell then decided to take fifty of the newly transformed lizardmen vampires with him along with Jack.

"King Hell, if you will allow me," a soft voice c.a.r.e.s.sed Hell's ears. "I would like to accompany you on this journey. After all, these are still new recruits."

Annette looked to be waiting for Hell's response with her large, innocent-looking eyes anticipating a positive response.

"How can I refuse when you ask it like that?" Hell said. His aura had also fully receded with Annette's request.

"Thank you, King Hell!" Annette bowed and added: "Would you like to tell me more about your brother?"

A mischievous shine was seen on Hell's eyes. "Devlin? Such a great guy! You see, once I was on my way to store and we saw this kitten…"
