New World's Empress

Chapter 22 - 22. The undercurrents

Ye Heng, on the other hand, struggled as well. His father final S's was someone who he couldn't offend. He actually liked his wife so he was adamant to marry her. She even arranged a few concubines for him as a proper wife and was never complaining if there is no big thing, but for an unknown reason, she hated that woman.

But is that widow even good enough for him to even consider? His grandfather was this time angry. Maybe with time he will forgive him and take him back home. He looked at his dazed mother that had been dizzy for a while and his grandmother that was silent.

Grandfather is really too much. To almost kill his own birth mother and scare his grandmother almost into silence, his anger rose in his heart. ''Grandfather, I will go with her. I can't divorce her just like that. I do disagree with the way she handled the servant situation, but after all, she has some of the highborn blood in her veins. Grandfather. Please do not regret it when we leave. You will be left all alone.''

His grandmother saw the situation and paled. What is this stupid child talking about? ''Child, I think you should reconsider your marriage.''

But Ye Heng just smiled. ''Grandmother didn't you hear his words? He will forbid both of you to even peak your nose into worldly affairs and if not even worse he might make you write scriptures and pray for their death. Don't you know his stubbornness? If you stay here, you won't be living anymore. You will be in jail. Is that your wish?''

She stocked. He is right. If she stays in this household she probably won't be able to live peacefully as she did before. Her eyes darkened as she looked at his cold expression.

''Husband. I lived with you all these years. Why don't you just forgive these children and just punish them? This situation...'' She was about to speak more when he rose his hand.

''You will be given only how much you brought with you and daughter in law as well. You will be given on top of that each 100 gold pieces and the house I bought recently in nobles corner. But you have to write down all that happened today in a truthful manner and leave the house without making big waves. If not I am not going to give you a thing and will drop you out the city and you people handle your own things as you wish as Ye Heng would, in that case, lose even his job in medicine hall.'' His words were hard but 100 gold pieces were something not many people could afford.

''Bring me paper and pen.'' She was willing. With that money, she could listen to the theater until her death and never completely spend it.

The servant brought the paper and she started writing. She wrote every single thing truthfully as she knew him, he would grudge her if she didn't and on end stamped her seal. Then her daughter in law did the same.

He took the two statements and nodded. As he opened the ancestry book and crossed all their names out of it with his reasons, he wrote divorce papers to his wife.

After all has been done he just coldly looked at them and smiled. ''From this moment on you will enter carriages and go straight to your new home. There you will be given all that I promised. From this moment on any of you or your servants are even forbidden to get close to this household. Ye Heng, from this moment on you, lost your grandfather so do not call me that way. For you, I am a doctor Zhao as well. You cant use Zhao anymore as your last name as well. Please leave now.''

Ye Heng just snorted and helped his wife stand up and leave. On their way out he could seem every single thing coming out yards like on the list that servants had.

They put the stuff silently on carriages at the side door and drove them off to the new house. He was about to exit the epowerstate when one servant stopped his tracks. ''Sorry, but your carriages are waiting at the side door as well. Please proceed that way.''

He was stunned. Somehow he felt uncomfortable feeling coming up but had no idea why. His wife and concubines sat together cramped up in the same carriage with him, looking at her fearfully.

His mother and grandmother were in the other carriage with their closest servants.

He got ownership papers about the house. So he just calmly wanted to get there but the moment he went out he almost got a shock of his life. The estate was maybe a quarter of the size from Zhao estate. The buildings were bearably livable and many things needed reparations. The dowries, the clothes and everything else was just in mid of the main yard and more things were piled upon it. It seems grandfather didn't want one item related to them. So he sends everything from their rooms until the last item.

They had just a dozen servants but the amount of stuff that was immeasurable to take care of in one day.

He turned around to ask the servants to help his servants but they just jumped on the carriages and coldly left. He looked at everyone's dazed expression and yelled. ''What are you all waiting for, clean this mess up!''

But when he entered the rooms he understood the real mess. No one lived in this place for years, so the amount of dust and grime was so big that even by walking clouds of dust rose up. He went out to see his concubines crying on the floor while his wife beat them up and his mother and grandmother looking at her fearfully. What is this situation?

''You are concubines, that means you are servants as well. Now go clean my room and help servants put my stuff inside first. Dare to break something I will take your lives. Understood?'' She then threw the stick down and sat on her chair in anger looking viciously at the two elder women.

''What are you two staring at me. You gave me the key. It was your decision as much as mine. This place is a mess. I will go to my father's home now and send more servants to clean this up. You will pay them handsomely as you have enough money now. And before I come back, you better repair the house, I have no wish to live inside it until you do.'' She made all kinds of weir demands making two women get even paler.

Ye Heng sighed. This wife of his is pretty ferocious. But what could he do? He just turned his back towards them and entered the house. He chose to ignore it. Everything, just ignore. But his decision was his doom.

His wife sent servants and workers. they finished to clean the house and bring in all the stuff inside asking for 20 gold pieces only for that. He stood his point and gave them on end 10. After that, she sent renovation people that asked for 100 gold pieces and he gave them 50. They were left with only 30 gold pieces but when she sends him a letter with a bunch of new tasks he ignored it until her father came and started making troubles every day.

On the other hand, doctor Zhao went to the palace with the female statements and his report. He asked to pull back from all the palace affairs as he had no wish anymore to be contacted by them. Empress Dowager was scared this time.

''That little girl is already out of your home, now you can live peacefully. '' She didn't read the statements she had no idea.

But the Emperor did. He gave her papers with dark expression and cold eyes, making her afraid. ''What is it inside that makes you so...''

But when the words that were written hit his eyes she became furious and threw on the floor his favored teacup. ''He dares? My sister is really foolish. I know he is the only grandson of their family, but what gives him the right to act imprudently. And she didn't even stop him?''

Emperor just gave her a glance and she got scared. She loved that sister of hers. That boy was the only male descendant in years if he dies... But then sighed. Should she let him live and continue his rampage? As Dowager she cant meddle into politics and usually, she would just pull some strings to help in smaller matters. Emperor never mentioned it as she never harmed anyone. But this stupid young man chooses that path, what can she do then?
