Chapter 5 – The Identity of the Boss was Exposed

Zu Jin had a bitter and sweet candy in her heart. When she returned to her home after leaving her mother’s house, this piece of candy was still choking her.

She began to feel unwell when it was approaching the late hours of the evening.

Could it be that she and Ms. Zu Hua were born to have restrictions1?

But after only seeing each other for a few minutes, she didn’t have to be so restricted that she’s hovering between life and death right?

She called the family doctor about her poor health. She said that she was vomiting and had diarrhea and urgently needed help.

After hanging up the phone, she suddenly remembered that she ate Japanese food at noon.

And she was eating with Yan Lin.

Then, she felt bad about this. How was Yan Lin?

She invited Yan Lin to eat Japanese food, and if he ate what she ate…

At the thought of this, Zu Jin not only felt unwell, but she also began to get a headache.

The doctor came at the middle of the night and examined Zu Jin. He said that she had acute gastroenteritis2 and needed an IV.

She could not go to work tomorrow. She must stay at home and rest for two days.

“But tomorrow I…”

This doctor had known her for several years and understood her habits. Thus, he put on a fake smile and asked, “Do you think you’re still a little girl in your early twenties?”

Zu Jin’s face paled and she glared at him with her eyes full of threats. “What do you mean? Am I very old?”

But the doctor didn’t take the bait. He bowed his head and tidied up his medical kit. “You know it in your heart.”

The next day was Qiyu Corporation’s annual staff award ceremony. If Zu Jin did not appear, then it was bound to have a negative impact for her.

But with this kind of stomach illness, she would really seem like Lin Daiyu3 persisting to the ceremony and this made her dread the consequences of that even more.

So when dawn arrived, Zu Jin first called Xia Tong and explained a few work related matters to her.

Then, it was time to call Ji Desheng.

“Good morning, chairman.”

Ji Desheng laughed for a while and said in a loud voice, “Good morning, Xiao4 Jin.”

“Chairman, I can’t go to today’s award ceremony. I’m not feeling well, but I’ve explained how the ceremony should be conducted to Xia Tong. It’s just that if other people ask about me, you can say that I’ve left the country to discuss a project…”

Ji Deshen suddenly interrupted her with a series of words. “Wait a minute. Where do you feel unwell? Have you seen a doctor?”

Zu Jin never liked revealing her poor health to anyone.

This was because it made her feel like when strangers knew, they would take advantage of her poor health to hurt her and her interests.

But Ji Desheng was on the other side of the phone, and Zu Jin had no way to hide it.

“I suddenly vomited and had diarrhea last night. The doctor said it was acute gastroenteritis, but it’s not serious. I just have to rest for two days.”

Ji Desheng seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and his tone relaxed a little.

“All right. I wanted to take you to meet an investor after the ceremony today, but that person is also sick today. What a coincidence for you two.”

Zu Jin said, “Then it seems like it’ll have to happen on another day.”

“Yes. Take care of yourself at home. If you really can’t go to the hospital to get a proper checkup, then I’ll go see you later when I’m done.”

“There’s no need, chairman. I…”

While speaking, Zu Jin seemed to suddenly pause. Her entire body froze.

“Wait a minute. Who is the person you just said you want me to see?!”

Ji Deshen was shocked for a moment and replied, “Yan Lin. Oh, you may not know that Chloe Investments from overseas is his company.”

Zu Jin’s breathing became quicker.

But her stomach was still upset and when she was nervous, her body would shiver with the chills.

Zu Jin felt the ends of her hair stand up after shivering twice in a row.

“Oh, I see. Then chairman, you must be busy. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at any time.”

After waiting for the other side to hand up, Zu Jin threw the cell phone away and collapsed on the big bed.

She stared blankly at the white wall. Her mind was in a mess.

Chloe Investments?!

After emerging nine years ago in the international investment community, it developed rapidly and replaced the old-school foreign investment groups. Eventually, it leapt to the highest position in the international investment community.

The founder of Chloe Investments was their current boss. He was only known to be a Chinese person.

His English name was also very simple: Leo.

As for his Chinese name and any bit of specific information or photos, it was blank.

Leo?

Zu Jin laid on the big bed and silently recited this English name. Then, she recited the name Yan Lin several times.

Leo is Yan Lin?

She invited Yan Lin to eat Japanese food and made him sick.

She made the boss of Chloe Investments sick!

Zu Jin’s sight became darker and she fell asleep.

By the time she woke up, she had been stuffed into the quilt and had an extra hot water bag in her arms.

The bedroom was dark. She felt around to turn on the bedside lamp. Then, she put on her slippers and went downstairs.

She heard clattering noise coming from the kitchen downstairs. She thought Xia Tong had finished her work and came to take care of her.

But when she went down to take a look, it was her mother, Ms. Zu Hua, who was standing in the kitchen.

Zu Jin eyebrows furrowed without realizing it.

She went over and poured herself a glass of water. She asked weakly, “What are you doing here?”

Zu Hua was tasting the chicken soup she was boiling in the clay pot. When she heard those words, she tilted her head and stared blankly. “Why can’t I come?”

“…”

Zu Jin went to the porch and took out her cell phone to call Xia Tong.

After a few rings, the other side connected, but it sounded noisy in the background like the ceremony was not over yet.

“Hello? President Jin, you’re awake. Are you feeling a little better?”

Zu Jin clenched her shirt collar with one hand and said angrily, “I was almost better and now I’m not! Why did you give the house key to my mother without my consent?”

Xia Tong flinched. “You don’t like having strangers in your home and I can’t get away from here. That’s why I had no choice. When you’re better, I’ll find her and get the key back.”

Zu Jin was so upset that she hung up. Then, she walked back and forth on the balcony several times to restrain herself from getting angrier.

In fact, it was not Xia Tong’s decision that bothers her.

She was annoyed by Zu Hua’s I-have-the-right-to-be-here expression.

If this kind of thing were to happen to other mothers and daughters, then perhaps it would be perfectly normal.

Ever since she could afford to buy a house, she began to invite Zu Hua to live with her. Zu Hua would have a nonchalant expression and directly refused. And whenever she was in front of her neighbors, she would say her daughter was promising and had nothing else to say to her. It would be better for her to continue living in her home with familiar neighbors to accompany her and to relieve her boredom.

From then to now, Zu Hua had never visited.

She had also never called Zu Jin.

If it wasn’t for Zu Jin visiting her several times a year, Zu Hua might have forgotten that she still had a daughter who lived in this world.

But this time she suddenly came to her house.

She even said, ‘Why can’t I come?’

Sometimes it could be a good thing to be related by blood. You could be close when you wanted to be close, and hate when you wanted to hate.

Zu Jin controlled the fire in her heart and tried to make her face look a little calm.

Then, she went back to the kitchen and quietly said, “You can hurry up and leave. I’ve called the maid and asked her to come and take care of me.”

Zu Hua stiffened for a moment and then turned off the gas stove.

The soup in the clay pot was not ready yet.

Zu Hua wiped her hands on the apron and turned around to lean on the kitchen counter. There was a sneer on her face.

“I came over and you’re upset?”

Zu Jin’s eyebrows suddenly wrinkled more tightly. “What?”

“Every time you return home, I know what you’re angry about. If you want to go, then why don’t you go?

“What’s the matter with you?”

Zu Hua took off the apron and threw it on the table. “Nothing’s the matter with me! Xia Tong said you were sick. She asked me to take care of you, so I came. Am I your maid? You’re still treating me with this attitude when I come all the way to do this and that for you?”

Zu Jin was so angry that she was shaking all over and her lips seemed to have lost its color.

She initially didn’t look very well because she was ill, but now she looked like she would faint at any moment.

The mother and daughter were standing with one person inside the kitchen and the other outside of the kitchen.

They stared coldly at each other from a few meters away.

Zu Jin raised her hand and pointed to the direction of the door. “I never treated you as a maid. I just don’t feel well. If you have something to do then go back first.”

“I’m not leaving!”

Zu Hua rolled her eyes. She suddenly pushed her away, walked to the living room, and sat down on the sofa.

“…”

Zu Jin was frail and tired after standing downstairs for a while.

Additionally, she was already very grumpy. At this moment, she was so annoyed by Ms. Zu Hua that her patience was running out.

“What the hell do you want?”

Zu Hua crossed her arms and legs and looked at her mockingly. “I’m your mother! I won’t kill you!”

Zu Jin immediately took another breath.

“Last night you said you were in love. Where’s your boyfriend?”

Zu Jin expressionlessly replied, “He’s busy and has no free time.”

“You’re so sick like that and he still doesn’t have free time? What on earth does he do?”

""

“Why are you asking so many questions? Can’t you give me a break?”

“I’m worried about you! I’ll save you the need to ask your secretary to call and ask me to work as a maid for you later!”

Zujin couldn’t stand it any longer and retaliated. “You’re actually afraid that I will be like you in the past and be obsessed with a scumbag. No matter how disappointed I am of you, will your obsession change?”

Zu Hua couldn’t sit still when she heard this, but Zu Jin continued to respond with a series of exasperating words.

“You don’t need to worry! Even if all the men on this earth are dead, you won’t be with the man you love! My boyfriend…no, my fiance, not only is he more capable than me, but he is also willing to be a full time house husband who will do the laundry and cook food for me every day after we get married! I have a much better eye than you, so you really don’t have to worry about me!”

Zu Hua was so angry that her face flushed and she felt a shortness of breath.

“That man is your father! I won’t allow you to talk about him like that! And I have lived longer than you, so I tell you that with how sick you are now and how unconcerned your fiance is with you, then he is only a country bumpkin that knows how to sweet-talk women! As long as you dare to marry him, he can take your properties and then divorce you the next day! You take a look at where you still look like a woman! You’re clearly a tigress! Will there really be any man who will like you?”

With that, she turned around and left after slamming the door.

Zu Jin clenched her fist at the air in front of her. It took a while before she exploded.

She grabbed some pillows from the sofa and threw them on the floor. After that, she jumped on them and started stomping them.

And like a madman, she screamed, “AAAaahhhhh! I’m going to get married this year and infuriate you! I’m so mad at you!”

She didn’t know how long it took for her to come back to her senses after lying down on the floor.

She rolled over and sat up. Then, she cleared her throat and picked up her cell phone to find Yan Lin’s phone number to call.

The other side connected very quickly, but this time the voice sounded a little hoarse.

“Hello? Zu Jin?”

“It’s me. I heard that you are sick too? I’m really sorry. I didn’t expect…”

Yan Lin gave a small chuckle. “Mr. Ji told you everything? Don’t worry. I’m already much better. What about you? I heard that your sickness was more serious?”

“I’m much better too. I didn’t really expect to treat you to a meal and have it turn out like this. I must seriously apologize to you in a couple of days.”

“You don’t need to. Previously, we agreed that next time I will treat you. If you have to pay for your apology, then I won’t be able to tolerate it.”

Zu Jin sat cross-legged on the floor and giggled.

Then, they were both silent for a few seconds before Zu Jin said, “I’m glad you’re not mad at me. I’ll see you in two days.”

“Okay. I’ll call you the day after tomorrow.”

After hanging up the phone, Zu Jin suddenly froze.

What’s going on?

Why did she feel like Yan Lin seemed to have taken the initiative?
