Chapter 36 – Finale

Zu Jin picked a church for the wedding. Then, she asked the helpers to fill it with white gardenias that she and Yan Lin really liked.

She did not invite any friends or relatives, nor did she ask a priest to help them with the vows.

Her best friend, Liu Wei, and some other friends expressed some regret after hearing about it. They said one after another that such a wedding ceremony could be regarded as a one of a kind romance.

However, Zu Jin didn’t have a lot of those kinds of thoughts.

She just felt that marriage was a very personal thing, and at that moment, she just wanted to enjoy it quietly with Yan Lin.

But unexpectedly, the atmosphere was destroyed instantly when they stepped into the church holding hands.

Yan Lin looked at her foolishly and asked aloud, “What time does it start? Why haven’t they come yet?”

The corners of Zu Jin’s lips twitched several times. “It’s just the two of us. I didn’t invite anyone else.”

Yan Lin nodded and seemed to agree with the way she handled this.

After they walked down the aisle, they faced each other.

“We have already exchanged rings.” Zu Jin couldn’t stop smiling.

Yan Lin then smiled helplessly. “Yes.”

They stood inside the church and didn’t know what to say.

In short and thinking back, they were always communicating and laughed until their eyes narrowed.

Just like that, they were married for three years. There was more sweetness than bitterness. What’s more, their daily lives were very ordinary. Just thinking about it could always put a smile on their faces.

“What?”

Zu Jin looked at her man’s clear eyes and liked what she saw.

“I am very glad now that I pursued you as soon as I saw you that day.”

Yan Lin took her hands and kissed her on the cheeks. “Actually, there’s one thing I didn’t tell you.”

“What is it?”

“Truthfully, I was ready to spend the rest of my life alone back then. I didn’t think I could find anyone who I would be happy with and spend my life with. Then you appeared on that day. I was not in a good mood, but you suddenly came over and lied to me that your car broke down… I thought of how you and your friends called me a raw melon egg at the dinner party, so why were you approaching me now? But you were so forward that I couldn’t even refuse. ”

As they spoke, they laughed again.

Yan Lin continued, “If you did not take the initiative at that moment, then I would have missed out on you.”

Zu Jin proudly raised an eyebrow. “I will always fight for what I like with my own initiative.”

Zu Jin wanted to ask a question during this warm moment.

She had always wanted to ask this question.

“Yan Lin, tell me honestly, have you ever regretted marrying me?”

Without hesitation, Yan Lin immediately shook his head. “No.”

“Neither have I. You don’t know how perfect you are in my heart. I love you, Yan Lin.”

After three years of marriage, they were often sweet to each other, but rarely said the words “I love you”.

They were not very good at saying such sappy things, but this time there was no shame when Zu Jin said it. She just followed her heart.

“I love you too, Zu Jin.”

This was the first time Yan Lin had been away for so long after Zu Xiaofei was born.

When they got home and before they could take off their shoes, their little girl ran over as soon as she heard the noise.

When she saw Yan Lin, her eyes turned red and tears came streaming down.

However, she just stood from a distance and did not run over and jump into Yan Lin’s arms as she usually did.

Yan Lin saw their daughter’s miserable state and it did not even need to be said how distressed he was.

He went over and picked up his daughter into a hug. After a few kisses, he quietly asked, “What’s the matter? Don’t you recognize your father?”

Zu Xiaofei sobbed and didn’t say anything. She put her small arm around his neck silently, and then hid her crying face.

Zu Jin didn’t disturb this beautiful father-daughter reunion. After changing her clothes, she went to the kitchen to help out.

When dinner was almost ready and the table was set up, Zu Jin took out a bottle of baiju from the cupboard.

“Mom, shall we have a drink today?”

Zu Hua looked at her in surprise. “Just the two of us?”

“Yes.”

Yan Lin was on the side, sweetly talking to Zu Xiaofei. He smiled and said, “You two drink, I will clean up later.”

Zu Hua watched the couple echo each other and didn’t ask any more questions. She went over and sat down across from Zu Jin.

Zu Jin filled their glasses and then picked one up. She declared, “Mom, this cup is for you.”

With that, she looked up and drank it. After that, she filled up the glasses again.

“The second cup is for you insisting on giving birth to me and raising me until I am an adult.”

The light in Zu Hua’s eyes dimmed a bit because Zu Jin’s words were like a knife in her heart.

She was too ashamed to say what she had done to Zu Jin in the past.

She was not a good mother.

“I heard others say I can only understand my parents’ pain when I became a parent. When I gave birth to Feifei, I still couldn’t understand why you treated me that way when I was a child…”

Zu Jin looked at her without any changes in her calm voice. “I hated you, and I know you hated me as your daughter, too. But what’s the use of hating? I’m sorry if it was like a punishment for you. So, I decided that I don’t want to think about the past anymore. Mom, from now on, can we stop fighting?”

Zu Hua lowered her head and suddenly burst into tears silently.

“Okay… Thank you for forgiving me… for being an unqualified mother.”

The table was quiet for a moment, but Zu Xiaofei suddenly made a scene.

When she saw Zu Hua crying, she did not know why her eyes were red again, and then she began to cry.

“Wuwu, grandma…”

She broke away from Yan Lin’s hand and climbed onto Zu Hua. She hugged her grandmother as if someone was trying to rob her.

Yan Lin drew some tissues and gave it to both of them. “How did a good meal turn into a crying contest?”

When Yan Lin returned to the bedroom after tidying up the kitchen, he saw Zu Jin sitting in front of the window, drinking alone.

It was a large bottle of wine and more than half of it was gone.

“Are there any stars tonight?” He asked this question, and then went over and sat down next to her.

Zu Jin smiled and leaned onto his shoulder.

“There are, I can see quite a few today.”

It was the middle of the night, the sky was dark.

However, there was always a small light in the bedroom.

Zu Jin spoke about random things with Yan Lin when she suddenly remembered the great loneliness she felt in college. It was when she saw the lights on in the high-rise buildings at night when she was doing a part-time job.

However, all those years passed in the blink of an eye.

Now, she had Yan Lin, Zu Xiaofei, and made up with Ms. Zu Hua.

What a magical thing time was…

It was fortunate that she gritted her teeth back then and continued walking, step by step.
