Chapter 32 – The Murderer Finally is Caught

A week passed by in a flash.

Yan Lin’s life had not been greatly affected since Chloe Investments posted the announcement on its website.

After all, he spent most of his time taking care of Zu Xiaofei and would only go to Chloe’s branch occasionally. Sometimes he went to meet his friends in places with strong security. Reporters couldn’t get in and essentially couldn’t take any photos of him.

However, Zu Jin’s situation was different. She went to work every day, and the way her colleagues looked at her made her feel sick.

There was only a week left before Xishui went public. Zu Jin was so busy that she was hardly home. She didn’t know who, but someone on the internet was spreading some negative news about her.

It said that she had mistreated a pregnant employee, leading to the employee’s premature labor inside of Xishui’d building. After, there was a picture of an ambulance parked outside of Xishui’s doors, with Xia Tong lying on the stretcher as she was being carried into the ambulance by the paramedics.

What’s worse came next. There was a picture of her from that day when she was standing at the gate of the Ji family’s old house with her bodyguards and they were surrounded by the police. The news headline read: The Suspect in the Murder Case of Ji Desheng’s Only Daughter Was Arrested at the Scene, Only to Be Bailed Out by the Husband and Boss of Chloe Investments

The news disappeared as quickly as it came out. After Yan Lin found out about it, he asked his men to track down the source and then reported it to the police to arrest the man.

After the man was questioned, he immediately confessed that it was Yan Yuelin who instructed him to do it.

Yan Yuelin really wanted to be acknowledged by everyone, but who would be willing to look at him when there was an outstanding person overshadowing him?

So he took a crooked path and tried to destroy Yan Lin and Zu Jin’s reputation online. After their businesses took a hit, he would slowly embezzle the Yan Group and leave for Taiwan.

He was also a son of the Yan family, and he wanted everyone to know.

Yan Lin Called Zu Jin and told her the results of the investigation. She was only surprised for a few seconds and then sneered, “He really doesn’t have a brain. How does he have the same father as you, but be so different from you?”

Yan Yuelin was arrested, and Father Yan, who had just been discharged from the hospital, could not bear it and immediately called Yan Lin.

The reporters wanted to investigate the truth, but Yan Lin couldn’t respond to anything. Thus, he had his public relations team and lawyer to issue a public statement to warn the media not to make up any stories.

However, the media loved this kind of explosive news and did not stop reporting it.

In just one day, the Yan Group’s stock price plummeted, and Chloe Investments’ foreign headquarters was also affected.

As for Xishui, it was quite calm because the media’s attention was focused on the dispute within the powerful Yan family, the illegitimate child’s murder, and Yan Lin’s Chloe Investments.

In the evening, Zu Jin was in a meeting when her assistant came in. The assistant bent down and whispered into her ear, “Ji Desheng is here and he is waiting outside.”

Zu Jin was shocked for a moment, and then went out after discussing the crucial parts of the meeting.

Ji Desheng was sitting alone in the reception room. She had not seen him for three years, and his hair had all turned white.

He looked very weak, as if he had aged more than ten years.

“Uncle Ji?” Zu Jin stood at the door and softly addressed him.

Ji Desheng looked up at her with a tired look. “Oh, are you done?”

“Yes.”

Zu Jin went in and sat down across from him.

Ji Desheng looked down again and stared at the table. “I heard that the murderer is Yan Lin’s brother? I just came back to see what was going on.”

“Sorry, I have not…”

Ji Desheng interrupted her. “Don’t say that. Shiyu… She is no longer a child, and it is impossible for others to take care of her all the time. Besides, her mother and I have been abroad this entire time and have not taken good care of her…”

They were both silent for a while. Zu Jin pursed her lips and said, “Yan Yuelin has been arrested. When the investigation is done, I think the sentencing should be very quick.”

Ji Desheng asked, “His father… is your father-in-law. He and Yan Lin, what is their attitude?”

Zu Jin knew that he was worried about whether Father Yan or Yan Lin would interfere with the outcome of the trial.

“Yan Lin will not do anything. He does not have a relationship with Yan Yuelin. As for my father-in-law, he is overwhelmed right now, but I think he will not interfere after he calms down. The media is still following this matter closely, so if he does anything, then he will lose his reputation.”

Ji Desheng let out a sigh. “Then I can let it go!”

With that, he stood up to leave, but suddenly stopped when he reached the door.

He looked back at her with deep emotions and said, “You have worked hard.”

Zu Jin slowly stood up and said, “Uncle Ji, please don’t talk to me about this. Please feel free to talk to me if you come across any problems later.”

But Ji Desheng did not respond. He waved his hand, opened the door and went out.

Three years ago, Ji Shiyu’s selfishness affected Ji Desheng, so he entrusted his hopes to Zu Jin.

He hoped Zu Jin could save his reputation and be lenient to Ji Shiyu.

He was an incompetent father who used peculiar methods to raise Ji Shiyu, and then tried to use favors to force Zu Jin to support him.

Then perhaps, at this moment, Ji Shiyu would be living freely and happily.
