Chapter 14 – The Discussion on Meeting the Parents

The long curtains in the bedroom were pulled open with a swish.

The bright light outside came in and shone on half of the big bed, causing the sleeping person to frown.

Zu Jin rolled over and pulled the quilt up to cover her head. She wanted to continue to sleep.

After all, there were not that many opportunities to sleep in, and she was a person who liked to stay in bed a lot…

“It’s almost ten o’clock. You still haven’t gotten enough sleep?”

The man spoke in a low, gentle voice and walked over to the big bed.

He bent down and put his arm around the woman who was still lying in bed like a piece of sushi, and then lightly patted the quilt with his big hand as if he was coaxing a child.

Half a minute later, the sleepy woman finally pulled the quilt off her head.

Zu Jin had just woken up so her face looked slightly swollen. She had a tired and sleepy expression, and her hair was a scattered mess on the pillow. This made her look a little less colder and more girlish and delicate than during the day.

However, Yan Lin felt that if he dared to praise Zu Jin’s cuteness, then he would definitely be squeezed to death by her.

Yan Lin was amused by this idea. He chuckled, then lowered his head and kissed Zu Jin on the forehead again.

“Xiao Jin? Jin Jin?”

Zu Jin couldn’t stand him any longer. She squinted her eyes and looked at him sleepily. “Can I not get up?”

“I made breakfast, and after we eat we will talk about meeting my parents later.”

When Zu Jin heard this, she felt a lot more refreshed in an instant.

She lifted the quilt and was about to get up, but Yan Lin pressed her back down with his arms.

“So, what’s your nickname?”

Zu Jin blinked. “I don’t have a nickname. My family has always called me Zu Jin…What about yours? Lin Lin?”

At this point, Zu Jin immediately gave an exaggerated shudder.

Yan Lin chuckled and said, “I don’t have a nickname either.”

“That’s good. It means we have one thing less for others to laugh about. When I have a child in the future, I won’t give him a nickname.”

Yan Lin stood up and went to the closet. “Speaking of which, it seems that we will have to discuss our plans on how long we should wait to have children after getting married.”

Zu Jin sat on the big bed and hit her forehead, implying that she was speechless again.

In the closet, Yan Lin went in to bring Zu Jin a bathrobe, but as soon as he opened the closet door, a large ball of clothes stuffed inside came crashing down in an instant.

He reached out and picked the pile up, but there was another large pile hanging from the edge of the closet that was on the verge of falling.

Yan Lin: “…”

Sure enough, Zu Jin, this woman, was always full of surprises for him.

After taking a bath and putting on makeup, Zu Jin went downstairs for breakfast.

Yan Lin was folding her clothes for a while in the closet. When he opened the other closet, he found that it was also a mess, so he just gave up.

With such a large amount of work, he couldn’t finish it by himself. He had to hire a specialist to do it.

By the time Yan Lin went downstairs, Zu Jin had almost finished eating.

He went over and sat down across from her. “How does it taste?”

Zu Jin immediately gave him a thumbs up. “It’s good. Delicious and a good amount!”

Yan Lin smiled and looked at her. “That’s good. As long as I have time, I will do it for you every day.”

“Huh? Are you moving in…”

“Do you have time to accompany me when I move in?” Yan Lin asked.

Zu Jin drank the cup of milk guiltily.

“I don’t have a lot of time. But if you move here, won’t we have more time to see each other when I go home from work in the evening?”

Yan Lin shook his head helplessly. “Let’s not bother about it yet. Anyway, we will soon meet my parents. We will get a marriage license after the meeting, and then we will move to a new house together.”

“A new house?” Zu Jin turned around and looked at her villa.

“I’m fine here. Chloe’s branch is so close to Qiyu that it takes only half an hour to go to work from here. If you don’t like the decoration here, you can find someone to decorate it again according to your preferences. In any case, I don’t care about it.”

Yan Lin patiently listened to her words, smiled and said. “It seems that you have a lot of feelings here.”

Zu Jin agreed, “This is the reward given to me by the board of directors for my first year as Qiyu Corporation’s President. Living here gives me motivation.”

“Okay. I guessed it would be like this from the beginning because you would definitely not buy this kind of villa with your temper.”

Zu Jin asked, “Then do you not want to move here because the villa was given to me by Qiyu Corporation?”

Yan Lin nodded. “Well, I think of the house as a home that should be a very private place and should not have anything to do with the outside. Since you have special feelings for this place, I can understand. But I really have to find someone to redecorate this place. It looks cold like an industry-standard styled hotel.”

Zu Jin gave him an innocent look and smiled happily in the next second.

But Yan Lin’s next sentence made her unable to smile again.

“In the next few days, I will first find someone to clean up the place. For example, you need a special person to tidy up the clothes in your closet.”

A crow appeared over Zu Jin’s head. It cawed as it flew over with a long string of ellipses.

After breakfast, they sat down in the back garden.

The back garden had not been taken care of since Zu Jin moved in.

China roses and rugosa roses grew savagely on the white fence, but they produced a different kind of beauty.

“Did you tell your parents about us?” Yan Lin asked.

“I told my mother.” After a pause, Zu Jin continued, “I was raised by my mother. I don’t have a father.”

They were sitting close by. Yan Lin leaned towards her and looked at her, but did not pursue any deeper.

Zu Jin wanted to laugh when he looked at her. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“So you told me before that when you find a husband, you must find someone who can cook and do housework, and is willing to be a full-time husband. Is that you wanting to make up for your lack of paternal love?”

“…”

Zu Jin wanted to run him over with a few words. But when she was about to say what was on her mind, she realized that Yan Lin had not said anything wrong.

This was because if someone really lacked something, they would change their ways to make up for it in other ways.

She was reluctant to admit it right away.

Yan Lin put his arms around her shoulder and kissed her on the ear.

“Sorry, I shouldn’t have joked with you like that.”

Zu Jin shook his head. “It’s all right.”

Yan Lin smiled. “I was thinking about my family and you will understand it when you see them. But, let me also talk about my family’s situation since we are already talking about this.”

Zu Jin mocked. “It’s not a really annoying dog blood1 drama, is it?”

“What is a dog blood drama?”

Zu Jin: “…You can continue talking.”

“My parents have always been a loving and harmonious couple in front of outsiders. But in reality, my father had an affair and he had a son outside when I was in primary school. When my mother found out, she went to the mistress and used some…methods to force the mistress to take her son abroad.”

“Huh? What methods?”

Yan Lin shrugged his shoulders. “My mother threatened the woman’s family, and then because of what she did, my father became completely on the same side as the woman. My mother is a very traditional person, she does not want outsiders to know that her marriage has failed and she is determined to not divorce. Thus, my father deliberately does some things that are a bit excessive to annoy her, such as bringing the other woman to my maternal grandmother’s house. He also brought the youngest son to live in our house for a while. After a long time, my mother gave up on him and began to raise companions and so on.”

“…”

This was really an episode of a dog blood drama.

“Ever since I was a child, they showed up in front of me with their lovers without any hesitation. I remember that there were many times where my teachers wanted to have a parent-teacher meeting, my father chose to go to my brother’s school, and my mother deliberately refused to hold a parent-teacher meeting for me in order to be angry with my father. In short, this is what my family’s circumstances are like.”

After hearing this, Zu Jin let out a long sigh.

“I understand why you say you like my sense of reason.”

With that, she turned and hugged Yan Lin tightly.

She hated her mother, Zu Hua, for having a madness for love, so she became a career-oriented workaholic.

Yan Lin clearly had a superior life from an early age, but at the same time he also understood the importance of marriage.

They had different starting points, but their goals were the same.

That’s why Yan Lin was willing to invest more into the marriage, which made her feel extremely grateful and moved.

Yan Lin rubbed her cheek. “All right, don’t say that. When you have time, let me know. As for the gifts to bring to my family, I think I’ll prepare them. In any case, I’ll tell you…”

Zu Jin suddenly raised her head and interrupted him.

“When you were in my room, didn’t you say you wanted to discuss with me when we will have a baby?”

Yan Lin froze. “Mhm.”

Zu Jin held his face and smiled. She firmly said, “I hope it will be fast so it’ll be soon. As long as we don’t give up on each other, I think our child will be happier than anyone else!”

She finished her words, and then she saw Yan Lin’s eyes.

It seemed to have turned red.

“You’re not going to cry, are you?” Zu Jin carefully asked.

Yan Lin blinked his watery eyes. “I think it would be better for our child to have a nickname in the future.”

“…”
