Chapter 3: Figured Out

Live a life alone.

These four words immediately evoked memories of Chen Qi's past.

Six years ago, just a few days after Chen Qi's college entrance examination, Chen Qi's parents died unexpectedly in a car accident. Because they lived far from relatives and had little contact throughout the year, her parents' funeral were supported by their good friends to handle.

Chen Qi, who was too sad, stayed at home for more than half a year. When she finally decided to go to work, because she didn't go to college and only had a high school diploma, Chen Qi had enough frustration after going back and forth for four or five jobs. Qi went home again and made money by scribbling dog-blooded romance novels on the Internet.

Although the money is not much, it is enough for Chen Qi, who only need to feed one person in the family and not be hungry.

It's been more than a year in this way, until one day Chen Qi watched a funny cartoon called "Not Human", and was deeply attracted by a character named Xiaotian in it.

This is a comic adapted from traditional mythological characters. In the comics, Chen Qi thinks he is handsome, cute and silly, whether he appears in the form of a human being or as a dog.

After reading the author's popular science, Chen Qi realized that the prototype of Xiaotian is a Chinese pastoral dog called the fine dog.

Curiously, he searched for photos of the dog on Du Niang, so Chen Qi completely fell in love with this kind of dog.

He has a physique that basically won't gain weight, a slender body, a dashing stance when he runs, and a personality that is particularly loyal to his master.

Chen Qi began to want to have a puppy like this, even if it was gray.

So Chen Qi searched on 57.com and Xianyu, but most of the small dogs inside were black and white, and Chen Qi especially wanted gray, so after patiently watching for a few months, she finally found her favorite dog.

The puppy was just a month old and it was transported from the S city on a long journey. When Chen Qi received him, he was slumped in the cage.

Chen Qi was both happy and nervous, and a small drum was beating non-stop in her heart.

She is happy that she is no longer alone from now on, and she is also nervous that she might not be able to take care of this fragile little life.

On the way home, Chen Qi didn't want to keep him in the cage, so she took the little gray puppy out of the cage. And because the puppy was grey all over, he was given a rustic name like Huidan (T/N: Grey egg).

This is not because it is a good name, it is purely because Chen Qi has difficulty in naming.

For a time, Chen Qi recalled many memories about Huidan.

She still remember that when Huidan came, because he was still very unfamiliar with the new family environment, he often cried and cried at night.

In order to appease the little Huidan, Chen Qi deliberately carried him to bed every night, and so, even if Huidan later had his own nest, he would sometimes act coquettishly and sleep with Chen Qi.

Another time, Chen Qi took the four-month-old little Huidan to the street. At that time, the little Huidan walked next to Chen Qi and kept looking up at her. Chen Qi accidentally stepped on little Huidan's foot.

The pain was so painful that little Huidan cried out "Ow Ow", but he still walked strongly while limping. Chen Qi hurriedly picked up little Huidan and rubbed his little foot lightly while apologizing: "Oh, it doesn't hurt, it doesn't hurt, rubbing it will not hurt, Huidan is the best."

At that time, Huidan was really obedient and well-behaved. But now...

Looking at the man, his entire face was buried in the bowl, he then raised his head contentedly. The lower half of his face was covered in oil, making it look smooth. He yawned, probably because he already eat and drink enough.

For some reason, Chen Qi began to miss the Huidan in the past.

She looked down at her phone and quickly flipped through other web pages. Chen Qi had a rough idea in her mind.

That is to say, she must first take Huidan to the community service center where she live to report, and then go to the designated hospital for a physical examination. Take the physical examination form to the community to issue a certificate, and then go to the place under the jurisdiction of the household registration to apply for the ID card.

Finally, wait for the community's notice, and take Gray Egg to a school specially set up for people like them to learn basic social common sense and simple literacy.

In short, the procedure is very cumbersome and time-consuming. Chen Qi's head felt full when she saw the process.

"Yeah! I still have to buy him clothes. I can't just let him have the blanket."

Chen Qi suddenly realized that going to the community to report is really not something that can be done tomorrow.

Chen Qi, who had resigned to her fate, found a soft ruler, ready to measure Huidan's body. But when he saw Huidan sleeping curled up on the sofa, Chen Qi felt inexplicably resistant to such Huidan.

She just stood by and looked at him for a while, probably estimating the height of Huidan, and planned to buy two clothes casually to deal with it.

After making up her mind, Chen Qi washed and prepared to go to bed. She would go to the street tomorrow to buy clothes for Huidan.

Lying on the bed, Chen Qi thought that she was really big-hearted. She was sure that it was Huidan just by his ears and tail, what if it was a bad guy disguised.

Thinking about it, Chen Qi fell asleep in a daze.

"Xiao Qi, aren't you going?" Mother Chen asked Chen Qi while putting on her shoes.

Chen Qi felt very sad in her heart, she wanted to call her mother. Her voice seemed to be hoarse, and when she opened his mouth, he couldn't make a sound. Chen Qi was anxious and angry for a while.

"Your father urged me to hurry down. You need to be good at home, okay?" Mama Chen smiled softly.

Don't leave me! Mom... Dad... Don't go...

Chen Qi cried in her heart as she watched her mother turn and leave.

She stretched out her hand to grab her mother, but her body seems filled with lead and could not exert any strength.

"Don't go." When her mouth was finally able to speak, Chen Qi saw the bedroom in the dark.

The sound of "woo woo" came to her ears. Chen Qi turned her head to look at Huidan who looked at her anxiously.

In an instant, Chen Qi felt incomparably soft in her heart, and she was glad that at least Gray Egg was by her side at this moment.

Hesitantly, she reached out to Huidan's head. Although the gray fur had changed to gray hair, the touch was still as soft as before. Huidan also tilted his head to enjoy the master's touch.

Tears flowed down uncontrollably.

At this moment, Chen Qi suddenly figured out that even if Huidan's appearance has become a human, the soul in his body is still the same as before.
