During the Truth or Dare game, something clicked in Luo Xi’s heart. She began to realize that her feelings for Cheng Qing went beyond just friendship.

But these feelings were limited to only liking Cheng Qing, and Luo Xi didn’t know to what extent these feelings had developed.

Even though Luo Xi’s pride held her back from openly confessing her feelings, Cheng Qing’s words had this way of tugging at her heartstrings.

As they walked through the corridor, Luo Xi could feel a blush creep up on her cheeks and her heart fluttering in her chest. Her mind wandered into daydreams, consumed by the thoughts of Cheng Qing, just like right now.

Suddenly, she felt something cold wrap around her ankle.

Huh? Who’s grabbing my foot?

Luo Xi froze for a moment and looked down, her eyes trying to make out the figure below her.

Her face became ashen when she saw a half-mutilated woman crawling closer to her feet with bloody entrails dragging behind her.

One hand was tightly gripping Luo Xi’s foot as the woman slowly lifted her decaying face to look at Luo Xi.

The sight was horrifyingly realistic, with rotten flesh and dead skin dangling from the sides of the woman’s face. It was enough to make one’s heart stop.

In sheer panic, Luo Xi clutched Cheng Qing’s hand and let out a piercing scream, “AHHHH, CHENG QING!!!”

Cheng Qing was taken aback and glanced at the person on the ground. Her eyes caught a glimpse of a wire in the hole the monster came out of.

Cheng Qing smiled and pulled Luo Xi closer to her side.

The half-bodied female ghost was actually a remote-controlled robot, and after Cheng Qing pulled Luo Xi away, the robot sensed no one nearby and slowly moved back into the hole in the wall.

Luo Xi continued to scream and stomp her feet, wishing she could shake off the feeling of being touched by a scary monster.

Cheng Qing called out to her gently, “Luo Xi.”

Cheng Qing’s voice was as melodious as a flowing spring, instantly bringing Luo Xi’s mind back. She stared foolishly at the woman in front of her, and the sense of fear gradually dissipated.

At this moment, Luo Xi finally felt a sense of grievance and complained to Cheng Qing, “It grabbed me.”

Cheng Qing let out a small laugh and said, “That was a robot. You were too close to it, so it sensed you.”

Luo Xi was on the verge of tears, but when she looked into Cheng Qing’s warm and clear eyes, she nodded and let Cheng Qing continue to lead her forward.

As they walked through the long corridor, they could faintly hear the eerie sounds of crying and screaming.

Unlike the silence in the waiting room with only one nurse, the more they ventured deeper into the hospital, the environment and the sounds intensified the scary atmosphere.

Cheng Qing glanced at a map on the wall placed for visitors and Luo Xi followed suit.

Unexpectedly, the door behind them created a loud “thud.” A second later, another thump sounded as if something inside the room was trying to break out.

Cheng Qing turned to look at the door and teasingly asked Luo Xi, “Do you want to open the door and take a look?”

Luo Xi grabbed the hem of Cheng Qing’s clothes, almost trying to shake some sense into her, “No! Why are you so curious?!”

Cheng Qing stifled a laugh, nodded understandingly, and pulled her along to keep moving.

In a haunted house, it’s impossible to walk through from start to finish without any incidents, and after only a couple of minutes, they arrived at a safety door covered by a black cloth.

Unable to see what was behind it, the more mysterious it seemed, the more their imaginations ran wild.

Cheng Qing extended her hand and lifted the black fabric. Her eyes scanned the area ahead, but it was completely dark inside.

It took a moment for her vision to adjust but once the vague shapes inside became clearer, Cheng Qing pulled Luo Xi in.

There were multiple beds lined against the walls with unrecognizable figures lying on top, but it was unclear whether they were real people or mannequins. Regardless, they had no interest in finding out.

After observing for a while Cheng Qing said, “Seems like the hospital ward?”

Luo Xi was infuriated, “I don’t care what it is, let’s get out of here!” She had a feeling that those figures on the beds were itching to move.

Almost as if in response to her thoughts, the people on the beds heard their voices. Suddenly, one by one, they gripped the bed rails and stiffly stood up like zombies.

Luo Xi’s heart raced in horror, and her breath caught in her throat. She was on the verge of letting out a scream when Cheng Qing’s comforting words reached her ears, “The staff told us that the NPCs couldn’t touch us.”

However, the creepy faces of the monsters caused Luo Xi to instinctively pull away from Cheng Qing’s hand and take a cautious step back. Her eyes trembled with unease as she whispered, “But… I’m scared.”

Cheng Qing glanced at the exit at the end of the ward’s corridor. The room was densely packed with about ten patients on each side, leaving only a narrow passage in the middle.

To escape, they had no choice but to pass through the small space.

Cheng Qing looked at Luo Xi with a comforting smile and pulled her close, wrapping her arm around Luo Xi’s waist.

The gentle touch was reassuring as Cheng Qing spoke with determination, “We’ll face it together, even if we’re scared.”

Feeling Cheng Qing’s arm around her, Luo Xi’s cheeks flushed. She became acutely aware of her shyness, yet in that moment, a newfound courage surged within her.

As they walked through the small passageway, whenever the monsters would stare at them, Luo Xi instinctively buried her face into Cheng Qing’s arm to shield herself from the monsters.

Fortunately, the NPCs didn’t move much, and they only slowly turned their heads to look at them as they passed by.

It seemed like they could erupt into action at any moment, but once they were out of the room, the NPCs didn’t chase them.

Luo Xi breathed a sigh of relief and turned her head back, amazed at her bravery. Her face formed a proud smile as she quickly regained her confidence.

But just as her smile was forming, a nurse suddenly burst out of the room carrying a severed head.

Luo Xi’s face instantly froze.

In a state of panic, she let out a shriek and pounced on Cheng Qing, wrapping her arms around her tightly as if her life depended on it.

Cheng Qing coughed and wheezed as she tried to take a breath, “Wait- be gentle.”

The nurse rushed over and could only stand behind them as she leaned her head close to Luo Xi, trying to scare her.

Luo Xi accidentally glanced at the nurse’s face and immediately tightened her hold on Cheng Qing even more, saying, “Get away!!!”

Cheng Qing couldn’t free herself from Luo Xi’s grip, so she desperately waved her hand at the nurse and muttered, “Hurry! Go away, or she’ll choke me to death!”

The nurse: “…”

***

The director watching from the control room: “Holy shit, this is intense.”

The assistant who was also blushing: “If this gets out, the fans will go crazy.”

Although Luo Xi had hugged Cheng Qing before out of excitement or happiness, she would let go after a brief moment. But this time was different. Luo Xi practically buried herself in Cheng Qing’s arms.

The nurse on the scene finally realized what was going on. One wasn’t afraid at all, while the other was terrified and would never look back.

All she could do was carry the fake human head in her hand and exit the scene in frustration.

Seeing the female ghost leave, Cheng Qing patted Luo Xi on the head and comforted her in a soft voice, “She’s gone now.”

Luo Xi quickly rolled out of Cheng Qing’s embrace and grabbed her hand, urging her to run forward, “Quick, quick, let’s hurry and run before more monsters come out!”

Cheng Qing wanted to tell her that everything up until now wasn’t too terrifying and that the further they went, the scarier it might become. But Luo Xi had already pulled her forward and Cheng Qing followed her willingly.

Perhaps the group behind them had also entered because many screams could be heard from both ahead and behind.

Regardless if one was a man or woman, the intensity of the screams rising and falling, accompanied by the hospital’s background music, created a truly eerie atmosphere.

Although the hospital’s distance wasn’t long, its area was vast. If they took a wrong turn, they would have to backtrack to find the right path.

Along the way, they passed 150 doors. Each department was realistically furnished with genuine medical equipment, operating tables, surgical lights, and so on.

Even the organs and human skin on the operating tables were made to appear real, fooling anyone who saw them.

As they went on, whenever something happened, Luo Xi would just cling onto Cheng Qing for comfort and they managed to make it quite far into the haunted house without any dangers popping up.

Suddenly out of nowhere, a seemingly ordinary wall beside them opened with a loud creak.

A creepy-looking doctor stood at the edge of the door, his grotesque appearance sending a shiver down Luo Xi’s spine, and for a brief moment, their eyes locked, freezing her in place.

Before Luo Xi could react, the doctor lunged forward with a surprising speed, pulling her forcefully through the wall that had just opened.

Cheng Qing was dumbfounded and shouted, “What the heck? A moving wall?!”

Cheng Qing could no longer see Luo Xi who had been holding onto her a few seconds ago. It was the first time Cheng Qing felt completely bewildered since they had entered the haunted house.

She hurriedly ran to the wall and cursed, “They went to such great lengths to create this haunted house and even made a secret door?!”

She hastily tried pushing on the wall, but no matter how hard she tried, it wouldn’t budge.

They were trapped.

As expected, Cheng Qing’s ears heard Luo Xi’s piercing scream, accompanied by the frantic sound of her footsteps running away.

“Luo Xi!”

With a determined and commanding tone, Cheng Qing seized the disfigured doctor by the collar, her eyes gleaming with a chilling intensity, “Unlock the door, now!”

The rotten-faced doctor stood frozen, unable to utter a word in response to Cheng Qing’s demand.

Feeling the weight of Cheng Qing’s commanding aura, the rotten-faced doctor trembled and obediently activated the door mechanism, granting her access.

Cheng Qing quickly leaped through the door and found herself in the hospital morgue. Apart from the incomplete bodies on the autopsy table, the room was filled with various peculiar body models hanging from the ceiling.

The dimly lit corridor flickered with alternating shades of red and green, but no ghosts seemed to jump out. Perhaps the ghosts that were originally there had chased after Luo Xi, leaving only one path.

With determination in her eyes, Cheng Qing hurriedly dashed through the path to catch up.

As she was running, she collided head-on with a ghost that had just returned from outside. The ghost was startled so much that it let out a scream louder than Luo Xi’s.

Cheng Qing who got a headache from the ghost’s scream: “Stop screaming. Where is she?”

The female ghost who was on the verge of tears: “Who are you talking about?”

Cheng Qing sighed, “The girl who was being chased by you just now.”

The female ghost chuckled nervously and her voice cracked as she spoke, “Oh, you mean her? She ran too fast and I couldn’t catch up.”

Cheng Qing exhaled another tired breath.

There was no choice but for Cheng Qing to let go of the female ghost and search around in the darkness to find Luo Xi.

Cheng Qing remained unfazed by the horrors of the haunted house that even the ghosts didn’t scare her and she had casual conversations with them.

Navigating through the twists and turns, Cheng Qing was gradually nearing the end.

Cheng Qing searched all around her but couldn’t find Luo Xi. Although she didn’t find Luo Xi, she did stumble upon the exit.

Letting out a sigh of helplessness, she shook her head and took a couple of steps back. Just as she was passing by a room on her right, she caught the faint sound of Luo Xi’s voice calling out.

Cheng Qing acted swiftly and pushed open the door to the room. Sure enough, she saw Luo Xi huddled in a corner, shouting, “Qing Qing! Help meeee!”

Cheng Qing found her friend and breathed a sigh of relief, but she couldn’t help but laugh.

There was a male ghost dressed in a hospital gown standing in front of Luo Xi, constantly leaning forward.

Cheng Qing knew that Luo Xi was afraid of this, so she stepped forward and patted the male ghost on the shoulder from behind.

The male ghost jumped up in fear, but when he realized that Cheng Qing was a visitor, he thought of scaring her instead.

Cheng Qing stared at the ghost’s attempt to scare her and said, “Alright, you did your job. Now let’s go out.”

The male ghost hesitated and asked, “Aren’t you afraid?”

Hearing Cheng Qing’s voice, Luo Xi timidly parted her fingers and peeked through the gaps, her eyes filled with curiosity.

Cheng Qing stood fearlessly beside the intimidating male ghost, but through Luo Xi’s eyes, she seemed to radiate a vibrant aura that enveloped her entire body.

Seeing Luo Xi’s timid appearance, Cheng Qing couldn’t help but feel amused and a little bit sorry for her.

She approached Luo Xi with a tender smile and helplessly said, “You sure ran fast.”

“Qing Qing~~” Luo Xi exclaimed delightedly as she leaped into Cheng Qing’s arms with all her might.

Cheng Qing anticipated Luo Xi’s jump and extended her arms to catch her, but she didn’t expect that Luo Xi would throw her entire body at her.

As a result, Cheng Qing was successfully knocked down to the ground.

The male ghost standing on the side: “…”

Luo Xi felt a sense of tranquility that she had never experienced before. From her point of view, Cheng Qing seemed to have descended from the sky, allowing her worried heart to finally settle.

When she was being chased, she scurried around the hospital like a headless chicken, unable to find a way out, yet she still complained to Cheng Qing in a pitiful manner, “Where did you run off to?”

Cheng Qing couldn’t believe this girl and said, “Didn’t I come back to find you?”

Luo Xi crossed her arms in response, “Hmph, you’re too slow!”

Cheng Qing stood up and helped Luo Xi up while casually responding, “Alright, alright, next time I’ll be faster.”

After dealing with Luo Xi, Cheng Qing couldn’t help but tease her, “You sure ran fast though, do you still have enough energy to walk?”

Luo Xi blushed in embarrassment and realized that her legs felt a little weak, “I was originally planning to figure out how to open the door to get out, but then that female ghost suddenly appeared! She was too scary, so I ran away.”

Cheng Qing held her up when she saw that Luo Xi’s legs were shaking.

As they left the room she smiled and said, “So, am I the one who was abandoned by you?”

Luo Xi remained silent as her head slightly bowed down, “I’m sorry…”

Cheng Qing laughed in response, “I’m just teasing you, I know that you were scared.” She then playfully poked Luo Xi’s cheek and said, “Did you see the exit at the end of that last stretch?”

Luo Xi looked up and indeed saw the glaring sunlight outside, shining brightly in the darkness. Her heart suddenly filled with hope and relief.

Cheng Qing squeezed the hand she was holding and reminded, “At this point, a ghost should jump out from behind to chase us.”

Luo Xi was startled and suddenly heard the sound of chains being dragged on the floor from behind them.

Luo Xi wanted to turn around and look, but Cheng Qing gently placed her hand on her head.

“If you’re scared, don’t look.” She pulled Luo Xi towards the exit, and Luo Xi followed closely behind her while tightly holding her hand.

Listening to Cheng Qing’s words, she didn’t turn around to look at the footsteps following them or the sound of the cold and merciless iron chains dragging on the ground.

Her heart and eyes were filled with only the woman in front of her, pulling her along as they ran. No matter how scary the path ahead was, Luo Xi felt safe with Cheng Qing by her side.

If Cheng Qing could stay with her all the time, she wouldn’t be afraid at all, not even in the darkness…

***

“Hoo~” After running out of the haunted house with Luo Xi, Cheng Qing felt a sense of accomplishment as if she had completed a great task.

Looking back at the breathless Luo Xi under the sunlight, Cheng Qing smiled and said, “Luo Xi, you should work harder in tomorrow’s fencing practice.”

Wiping the sweat off her forehead, Luo Xi looked up at Cheng Qing while gasping and asked in confusion, “W-Why?”

Cheng Qing chuckled softly and leaned closer to Luo Xi’s ear. Her voice was a melodic tone as she playfully said, “You’re panting heavily after running just a short distance. It means that you haven’t had enough exercise.”

Luo Xi’s cheeks flushed and she instinctively covered her ears, feeling a mix of embarrassment and shyness. She stood up with a rigid posture, fixing a sharp gaze on Cheng Qing.

Cheng Qing had seen that glare many times and immediately raised her hands in surrender, “My bad, my bad, I apologize!”

Kong Mingyan had just come out of the control room when he saw Cheng Qing rapidly kneeling in front of Luo Xi. He burst into laughter and said, “Welcome back!”

Both Luo Xi and Cheng Qing turned their heads, one with a flushed face and the other feeling helpless.

Kong Mingyan approached them with a cameraman beside him and asked Cheng Qing, “How did it feel?”

Cheng Qing couldn’t help but sigh when she remembered Luo Xi’s constant high-pitched screams, the near-death experience from Luo Xi’s choke hold, and the chicken chase to find a kidnapped Luo Xi.

Cheng Qing smiled as she said, “It was quite thrilling.”

Kong Mingyan patted her on the shoulder while giving a meaningful look at Luo Xi, then he took the cameraman to interview the others.

Cheng Qing was confused for a moment and thought: Wait a minute, why interview me instead of Luo Xi? Why would they interview an ordinary person? Cheng Qing was completely bewildered by the director’s move.

Luo Xi, on the other hand, was taken aback by Cheng Qing’s unexpected approach. The warm breath near her ear, the seductive tone—it was such a bold move that she couldn’t stop thinking about it.

With these thoughts in mind, she turned her head to glare at Cheng Qing, but her flushed face and moist eyes made her glare powerless.

Cheng Qing took this seriously though and immediately straightened her back, “I truly apologize.”

Luo Xi frowned, “You don’t even know why you’re apologizing.”

Cheng Qing scratched the side of her head and slowly said, “…Indeed.”

While Cheng Qing was pondering about what she did that upset Luo Xi, the hospital director was running after a screaming Lin Shandie.

He chased after her with the iron chain until Lin Shandie ran into the sunlight, stopping just before the sunlight reached inside.

Once he was sure that the people outside wouldn’t enter back, he pulled the thick iron chain and turned around while slowly walking away.

Luo Xi: “…”

So, she was being chased by that person just now? This is too terrifying!

Eventually, the people who came after them gradually ran through the exit not long after Cheng Qing had led Luo Xi out.

Everyone’s faces looked ghastly as they glared at the director angrily, “Why on earth was this project even allowed!?”

Kong Mingyan smiled and said, “It was requested by the fans on Weibo.” It turned out that this was really requested by fans and that he wasn’t lying.

The celebrities wailed in despair, thinking that their own fans wanted to see their idols make fools of themselves. They couldn’t scold anyone so they could only grit their teeth, swallow their pride, and bear with it.

Seeing that everyone was so resentful, Kong Mingyan could only try to please them by saying, “How about I treat you all to a dinner?”

“Get lost!!!” The crowd angrily shouted back.

They had already traveled to another city, spent the whole afternoon filming, and now it was around 6 PM as they rushed back to Fuanhe City. Who had the mood to eat dinner?!

On the way back, everyone felt completely drained. Even male actors like Li Mingyao and Feng Qiuyi couldn’t help but have tired and pale expressions as they got in the car.

Cheng Qing, Luo Xi, and Lin Shandie sat in the back of the car and were also overwhelmed by the exhaustion of a day filled with non-stop running around.

Even Cheng Qing couldn’t help but feel a little drowsy.

Suddenly, she felt a slight weight on her left shoulder and saw Luo Xi already deeply asleep.

Cheng Qing smiled warmly and adjusted her posture to make Luo Xi more comfortable. With a gentle and slow movement, she leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes, allowing herself a moment of rest.

Through the swaying lens of the camera attached to the car, the bathing sunlight shone down on the sleeping celebrities, making the time seem to slow down.

Separated by a window, it felt as if the bustling city outside and the tranquil afternoon inside the car were worlds apart.

***

When the car arrived at the villa, it was almost 7 o’clock.

Cheng Qing was the first one to wake up and started reading a book she brought with her. Seeing the vehicle had finally stopped, she leaned over to Luo Xi’s ear and called out her name.

“Luo Xi, it’s time to wake up. We’re here.”

Luo Xi felt a slight itch in her ear and she reached up to rub it. In a coquettish manner, she snuggled against Cheng Qing and said, “Just let me sleep a little longer.”

Cheng Qing sighed with a smile and leaned her other arm against the door, holding up her face to look outside the window.

Her eyes gazed at the surroundings for a moment before she saw Kong Mingyan fastly approaching their car with a cameraman beside him.

Cheng Qing felt a mix of confusion and unease. An interview right after getting out of the car? She had no idea what Kong Mingyan was planning, but she still nudged Luo Xi to get up and said, “I don’t think you’ll be able to sleep longer. I see Director Kong-“

Before she could finish her sentence, Kong Mingyan had already arrived in front of their door.

Cheng Qing covered the unwilling-to-get-up Luo Xi from the camera and rolled down the car window, “Are we filming even when getting out of the car?”

“Yes! I’m wondering if you’ll step out with your left foot first or your right foot.”

Cheng Qing couldn’t hide her confused face as she thought, what kind of reason is this…
