Chapter 40. Violent Lake

Pew!
An arrow flew. Ivan quickly pulled out his shield and blocked his front, and, under his protection, Delfino offered a prayer.
“Lord of Brilliant Light, embrace us with that warm light…”
And a warm divine power emanates from Delfino’s body, and it seeps into the bodies of others.
Wee-.
Ivan felt the presence of a shield surrounding him. The flying arrows were blocked. Arrows were no longer a threat.
Whoooo, whoooo-.
“Woo! Woo! Woo!”
The sound of the horns resounded once more, and the strange cheers of the orcs grew closer and closer. He couldn’t pinpoint the direction. The sound came from all directions.
Tadadak!
Lizardmen warriors did not just wait for the enemy. As soon as they saw the Orcs, they ran to them. Orcs were a race of strong warriors, but Lizardmen were more. The power and explosive speed emanating from its large size was enough to cut the orcs’ heads.
Ivan also ran with a sword. It pierced the heart of the Orc who was in the lead. He kicked the guy approaching from the side, cleared it, and blew the neck of the guy behind him.
The ax split the skull of a certain guy, and created new hole in the chest of the spearman.
Their blood soaked Ivan’s body. The orcs’ blood was red, hot, and fishy. As always.
Even as he defeated the Orcs, Ivan’s expression was not good. There were too many enemies.
He looked at the possessed Lizardman warriors. They also lost their initial momentum and seemed to be getting stuck little by little. Wounds were engraved on their hard hide one by one.
Orcs were all strong warriors and fighters, fanatics who believed that their death brought glory to this land.
Orcs liked fierce battles. They felt a sense of ecstasy in the bloody battle. They thought that a battle with the strong would be a blessing.
The tribal god they worship, the orc god Tarkan, wanted it. Therefore, he could not be vigilant just because they were weaker than himself.
bang!
Ferocious Tooth swung the sword, breaking rocks and splitting the floor. The bodies of the orcs standing around them were split and their red bean legs were crushed.
However, the Orcs did not lose their fighting spirit when they lost one of their limbs. He dyed his eyes red and tried to wield the sword even once more. (dlazarturead(dot)wordpress(dot)com)
Crawl if you can’t walk, bite if you can’t wield the weapon.
If there were over tens, not one, and if they thought there were hundreds and thousands behind them, they would get tired of it.
“Back to the village!”
The Ferocious Tooth shouted so. We can’t stand it like this. We must return to our realm.
But the orcs did not let them go. A thick main force rose, and the forest squirmed and moved. Trees have moved and roads have been cleared. A sharp speculation was felt beyond it. The way back seems to have been blocked.
“Shaman! They’re well prepared!”
Ferocious Tooth shouted wildly, hearing the name. If the shaman blocked the rear, it was difficult to pass through him. The answer is to go forward.
“Go to the violent lake! It’s a good place for us, so the orcs won’t be able to run rampant easily.”
While saying that, he glanced at Ivan and Delfino.
The lake was familiar to Lizardmen, but it was probably not to humans. But that didn’t change the way. To be honest, the Ferocious Tooth were suspicious of them.
‘The timing is too complicated. Is it just a coincidence?”
Humans who came suddenly, followed by the attack of the Orcs.
At first glance, there was nothing strange about it, but the Ferocious Tooth were somewhat uncomfortable.
Ivan noticed such a sign and bit his mouth. It was not likely that the Lizardmen would be used easily.
Chichik, Chijik!
Lightning flashed from Ivan’s body. He raised the divine power and stepped forward.
“I will open the way, follow me.”
Ferocious Tooth looked at Ivan for a moment, then nodded his head.
“Follow him. Those who fall behind, I will cut off their tails.”
The party broke through the siege of the orcs and headed for the wild lake. The road has never been smooth. In their pursuit, several Lizardman warriors lost their lives and fell to the floor.
The Lizardmen’s expressions were very bad because they left the warriors’ corpses and moved without having time to collect them.
Did you even need to do this? Weren’t they all played by that damn human? Is there really an altar of Morna the snake god hidden here? Feelings of doubt, hostility and dissatisfaction floated through the air.
Everyone had large and small wounds, and their nerves were very sharp.
Delfino was running around, recovering the wounded, but the mood was still heavy.
They originally tried to refuse even Delfino’s treatment. How on earth do you believe in human kindness? Then Ferocious Tooth broke in and shouted.
“The battle isn’t over yet! But what are you going to do if you can’t trust the person you’re fighting with!”
The Lizardman warriors listened to the words of the Ferocious Tooth and forced themselves to surrender. But now everyone knew. That something was strange, that the Orcs were targeting Ivan rather than themselves.
The Ferocious Tooth that calmed the warriors didn’t look good on Ivan either.
“You’ll have to explain this properly.”
“It’s not even an explanation. I thought they were impressed with the sword dance I did in the east.”
Ivan said that he encountered Tezan, the seeker of nature, who had pierced the heart of Val-something, the twenty-seventh son of Orc Lord Kartak.
“It seems that Orc Lord Kartak was a more family-oriented man than I thought. There were dozens of sons, so I thought he would not even remember his son’s name, but to think he would order his men to bring me my neck.”
Predictably, it wasn’t because Kartak was really domestic. However, his dignity as an orc lord would suffer if he leave Ivan alone as the leader of the orc army.
If they didn’t see Ivan, then they can pretend they didn’t know, but since they saw him, they must kill him. The orcs must have been thinking like that.
After hearing such an explanation, the Lizardmen struggled to suppress their dissatisfaction. They could not blame the resentment that occurred while fulfilling his duty as a warrior. They only think that they have been attacked by detestable human.
The belief that was being built up in a clumsy way disappears. They saw each other as potential enemies rather than colleagues.
The contract promised in the name of the snake god Morna will continue, but even the slightest chance will turn him into an enemy.
It was a subtle emotional change that was not easily revealed on the outside, but Ivan could feel it.
‘It’s not good.’
It was difficult to bear if the Lizardmen turned their backs on them, in a situation where the orcs were aiming for their neck. At this point, the situation had to change.
“Now it is the violent lake soon. We should find the altar of Morna the snake god there.”
When Ivan spoke like that, the Lizardmen glanced at him.
It is not easy for an unfamiliar person to read the emotions from that lizard-like face, but even Delfino realized that they were dumbfounded.
It was so blatant.
“The violent lake is wide. It is not easy to find the hidden altar there.”
“Not really. But there is a way to find out.”
Ivan was rather puzzled by the way they looked at him pathetically. So did they think they’d be stuck here for months? In a situation where the orcs will attack you right away?
“If you make a sacrifice to the violent lake and the blood of the follower who believes in the snake god Morna flows, the hidden altar will respond.”
“How did you know what we don’t even know?”
“The altar was built by the naga long ago. It’s no wonder you don’t know.”
After having such a conversation, when I translated it to Delfino and informed him, his expression changed very subtly.
“The ruins the naga made? Will it be fine?”
Delfino’s concerns were natural. If the Lizardmen were not friendly to humans, Naga was a hostile race to humans.
They could not be found in the Roman Kingdom in the eastern part of the continent, but in the western part of the continent, Naga’s notoriety was famous.
“I’d be lying if I said the ruins weren’t dangerous, but don’t worry too much. The naga are all gone.”
The naga, who could be said to be the heirs of the snake god Morna, abandoned this place and headed west under her guidance. That was over hundreds of years ago.
‘Maybe it was a good thing.’
He didn’t plan to go into the ruins where the orcs were chasing him from behind. But it could also be an opportunity. (dlazarturead(dot)wordpress(dot)com)
The wild lake was not a place for two Ivan and Delfino to enter. However, if there are Lizardman warriors, the story is different.
It would be impossible to take all the relics inside, but can you just take some of them? There might be another jackpot there.
Ivan led the group while forcing himself to think positively.
Contrary to its name, the violent lake was simply calm. He looked at the calm waters and wondered why it was called the Violent Lake. Of course, the name was also a trace of the days when Naga stayed here.
Ivan, who looked around the lake with serious eyes, opened his mouth.
“I don’t have much time. I’ll have to make a quick sacrifice and find the snake god Morna’s altar.”
At those words, some Lizardmen tried to move. They must be thinking of catching a deer nearby and offering it to them. But now, the orcs are scurrying around, so it would not be easy to catch a deer.
“You don’t have to. The sacrifice is already prepared.”
Ivan took a whole large boar from his inventory and set it down on the floor.
You can’t recognize it because it’s skinned, but this guy was a golden boar. Since it’s a guy with traces of mythology, at least slightly, it would be more suitable as a sacrifice to the god than an ordinary deer.
“Sprinkle your blood on it. Morna, the snake god who smells the blood of the follower, will respond.”
Originally, you would have to make human sacrifices. A ceremony in which a follower sacrifices one’s life and calls the god. Instead they offer a golden boar and sprinkle the blood of the follower on it, so it was roughly all over the place.
He wondered what would happen if Morna the snake god didn’t respond, but he couldn’t just say, ‘One of you must die’.
Crazy, if you’re going to argue, just argue with the picky goddess.
Ivan made a solemn expression while thinking about it.
“Start.”
After hesitating for a while, the Lizardmen turned around and drew their forearms and soaked the golden boar in their blood. Delphino quickly healed the wound, but it was full of the fishy smell of blood. This should be roughly equivalent to one lizardman’s blood.
The Lizardmen picked up the golden boar soaked in their blood and threw it into the lake far away.
And everyone knelt down and began to sing to their gods.
The old god has been silent for hundreds of years.
The Lizardmen, who had been calling out her name for a long time, suddenly raised their head. They were able to feel the existence of the divine, which they had never felt before, at least slightly.
As they shivered with emotion, the violent lake began to simmer and boil. The calm water shook violently and spurted upwards.
The lake which used to be like a mirror, awakens. As the name suggests, a violent lake wakes up. Through the white foam created by the rushing water, something appeared in the middle of the lake.
Cave, or castle. An altar to the snake god Morna and a sacred snake cave built by the naga.
Ferocious Tooth that was on his knees shouted the goddess’s name once more and stood up. His eyes looking at Ivan became softer.
“I clearly felt her gaze, her breath. She did not leave us. Thank you”
At those words, Ivan glanced up at the sky.
“You don’t need to thank me. It’s not a good thing to have God’s eyes on you.”
No matter what he said, the Lizardmen were all excited. They seemed to have forgotten that they had been attacked by Orcs not too long ago.
“I must go inside!”
Even Ferocious Tooth, which seemed calm, became hot and headed to the altar of the snake god Morna.
Even if it wasn’t his god, it was a wonderful sight. Delfino offered a prayer to Arun, the Lord of Brilliant Light.
“Is Morna, the snake god who was sleeping, awake now?”
After praying, Delfino asked Ivan. He shook his head.
“It is not true to say that Morna, the snake god, is asleep.”
“then…?”
“God’s affairs are complicated laws.”
When everyone was concerned about the altar of Morna the snake god, Ivan looked back.
The forest was quiet, unlike the violent lake that had regained its appearance worthy of its name.
The sound of the enemy’s horn had not yet been heard.
