Chapter 20: Self-help

Qu Ling’er felt sad for her mother. What a travesty!

Perhaps Qu Zhisheng had jilted Fang Xiaoman to pursue her mother because of her maternal grandparents’ assets. After her maternal grandparents passed away, he revealed his true colors. Not only did he seize all the assets, he also mercilessly kicked her mother aside.

Qu Zhisheng continued upbraiding, “When I told her to abort you back then, she refused and even wanted to use you to threaten me. She only agreed to divorce me because she knew that her family had declined and had no choice. I’ve already done my part to her by letting you be born into this world and staying in the Qu family’s household register. If she hadn’t used her life to exchange for your return to the Qu family, do you think I would have accepted you? Since you’ve returned to the Qu family, you should listen to me and not think about unrealistic things.”

Luo Xiao had had enough of their bickering. He blatantly leered at Qu Ling’er’s body and asked, “The anesthetic should be working already, right?”

Qu Zhisheng nodded. “A strong anesthetic. It will work in less than a minute, but will begin to wear off in fifteen minutes.”

Luo Xiao frowned. “Fifteen minutes is enough. Hurry up and leave. Don’t get in the way.”

Qu Zhisheng asked hesitantly, “Then what you promised me…”

“Don’t worry.” Luo Xiao did not even look at Qu Zhisheng as he revealed a lewd smile. “I’ll solidify your daughter’s engagement to my nephew. I’ll also give you half of my company’s market share.”

As soon as he finished speaking, he pounced on Qu Ling’er impatiently.

Qu Ling’er had been wary of him. She held onto the wall and moved her body, wanting to avoid him. However, her limbs were weak and she could not control them at all—her head began to feel dizzy—she felt like she could pass out at any moment.

Seeing that she could still dodge, Luo Xiao became even more excited. “Oh! The girl is feisty. However, today is different from last time. You better be a good girl—that way, you can suffer less.”

Qu Zhisheng felt that it was time for him to leave. Without even looking at Qu Ling’er, he walked behind Luo Xiao and unlocked the door. “Director Luo, I’m leaving.”

While they were talking, the ward door opened a little. At this moment, Qu Ling’er suddenly raised her head and charged at Luo Xiao.

Luo Xiao was caught off guard and was hit in the stomach by Qu Ling’er. He took a few steps back and bumped into Qu Zhisheng.

Qu Zhisheng had really gotten into a car accident this morning. Even though his injuries were not serious, his body was still affected. After being hit by Luo Xiao, he rolled out of the ward and fell to the ground in the corridor.

Luo Xiao lost his balance and fell onto Qu Zhisheng, causing him to cry out in pain.

Qu Ling’er held onto the door frame and struggled out of the ward. She stood in the corridor.

The huge commotion alarmed people on the same floor.

“What happened?” A young doctor walked over and asked.

Qu Ling’er leaned against the wall and looked at the doctor—used her last bit of consciousness—and held out her hand. “Doctor, save me…”

By now, Luo Xiao and Qu Zhisheng had already gotten up from the ground.

After Qu Zhisheng stood up, he immediately walked towards Qu Ling’er.

However, the doctor stood in front of him. “This is a hospital. Please don’t make a racket.”

Qu Zhisheng did not want to blow things up. He looked at Qu Ling’er—who was behind the doctor—and said, “Doctor, please move aside. That’s my daughter behind you. We had an argument. We shan’t disturb others. We’ll go back to the ward and talk.”

Luo Xiao rubbed his aching stomach. He was really mad at Qu Ling’er now, but he still had to go along with it. “This child has a really bad temper. Father and daughter were quarreling. I was trying to get a fair word in as an uncle and got hit by her.”

The doctor frowned and turned to look at Qu Ling’er.

Qu Ling’er’s face was flushed as she leaned against the wall with her head lowered and her eyes narrowed. She had heard the conversation between Luo Xiao and Qu Zhisheng—she was struggling to open her eyes. She looked at the doctor.

The doctor looked to be about 26 or 27 years old. He was tall—had exquisite facial features—and wore a pair of gold-rimmed eyes. He looked very refined and made people feel at ease.

The doctor smiled and said to Qu Ling’er, “Young lady, you can tell me if there’s anything.”

“Qu Ling’er!” Qu Zhisheng was afraid that Qu Ling’er would say something—he quickly stopped her and tried to move towards her.

However, the doctor reached out and stopped him.

Qu Ling’er’s breathing quickened as she stuttered, “He… they… injected me with anesthetic. I think it’s Atracurium…”

Her skin was hot, and she seemed to be experiencing hypotension and breathing difficulties. These were all side effects of Atracurium.
