Chapter 2: Hitch a Ride

Qu Ling’er was about to put her cell phone away when she received a voice call. It was from Qu Xinru and she immediately rejected it.

A moment later, Qu Xinru sent a voice message: “Qu Ling’er, it’s my birthday today. Why aren’t you here yet? Where are you now? Why aren’t you answering your phone? Dad and Mom are very worried about you. Did something happen to you? Reply to me—we are worried about you…”

Qu Ling’er gave a cold-eyed stare. She did not reply.

In the distance, a car drove over with high beam headlights on. It was so bright that Qu Ling’er could not see the make of the car.

The car must have noticed her because it switched to low beam headlights and slowed down.

Qu Ling’er took a look and realized it was the car that Old Leopard had mentioned. Without thinking, she waved at the Rolls-Royce—it stopped.

Qu Ling’er opened the back door and got in. “Let’s go.”

The car fell silent instantly—no one spoke.

“What’s wrong?” Seeing that everyone in the car was looking at her, Qu Ling’er frowned and asked, “Aren’t we leaving?”

“Drive,” Luo Yichen turned around and ordered.

He immediately recognized Qu Ling’er. They had met twice in one day—they were really fated!

As soon as he spoke, Qu Ling’er looked over. She had not noticed before that there was someone else in the backseat.

Luo Yichen was not wearing a mask or hat. The lighting in the car was a little dim too. She found this person familiar but did not recognize him.

She was not the boy-crazy type. Although she thought the man was handsome, she only glanced at him briefly. She nodded politely and looked away.

However, she was a little puzzled. Since when did Old Leopard have such a handsome friend?

The car drove slowly. As Qu Ling’er gazed out the window, she felt tired.

Assistant Liu—who was in the front passenger seat—kept glancing back at the back seat. His mind was filled with questions. Who was this girl? Why was she so calm? The person sitting beside her was the youngest actor in the entertainment industry to have 50 million fans—Luo Yichen!

Assistant Liu was confused. Was Luo Yichen not charming enough? Was he not famous enough? How was that possible?

“Um… I’m sorry, babe. You…” Assistant Liu was about to say something when he was stopped by Luo Yichen’s glare. He gestured for him to keep quiet.

Assistant Liu was speechless. What was going on? He took a closer look and realized that the girl had fallen asleep in her seat.

Luo Yichen checked out Qu Ling’er. The bright moonlight shone on her small face, making her look serene and cute.

After a while, Luo Yichen took out a blanket and carefully covered Qu Ling’er’s body. Qu Ling’er suddenly opened her eyes unexpectedly. She grabbed his wrist with one hand and swung at his face with the other.

Bam!—Luo Yichen’s face was turned to one side by the slap. He was stunned.

“What are you doing?!” Qu Ling’er asked coldly, still gripping Luo Yichen’s wrist.

She was taken aback when she noticed that she was half covered with a blanket. So he… The air was thick with awkward silence.

Luo Yichen never expected that the one time in his life he was chivalrous, he would receive a slap in return…

“I-I’m sorry, I…” Qu Ling’er stammered an apology and quickly let go of Luo Yichen’s wrist.

Luo Yichen was speechless. He did not know how to answer—his mind was blank.

Assistant Liu looked at Luo Yichen’s face anxiously and exclaimed, “Oh my god! How’s your face? Are you hurt? You’ve got an engagement tomorrow! If something happens to your face, how am I going to explain it to Brother Bai?”

“Shut up.” Luo Yichen glared at Assistant Liu in disdain.

Assistant Liu did not understand what Luo Yichen meant and lamented to Qu Ling’er resentfully, “Hey, babe… It’s fine if you don’t thank us for hitching a ride, but you can’t just hit people!”

“What? Hitch a ride?” Qu Ling’er asked in bemusement, “Aren’t you Old Leopard’s friends?”

“What Old Leopard, Young Leopard?” Assistant Liu was also confused. What was going on?

Qu Ling’er suddenly realized that she had gotten into the wrong car. She quickly took out her cell phone. It had been ringing incessantly previously—she was annoyed and had set it to silent mode. Now—there were more than 30 missed calls on her cell phone—and her WeChat was filled with messages from Old Leopard.

“F*ck! Where are you? My friend arrived and didn’t see you at all!”

“Answer the phone!”

“Where are you? Where are you? Are you still at the cemetery?”

“This is my friend’s number. Call him quickly!”

“Where did you go? Don’t scare me!”
