Chapter 11: Play the Blame Game

Qu Ling’er held her cell phone in silence.

The other party continued, “Ms. Qu, you need to come over as soon as possible. If you don’t cooperate, we will take aggressive measures.”

Qu Ling’er’s face sank as she replied, “Alright, I understand. I’ll be right there.”

After hanging up, her eyes darkened. She did not expect that Luo would dare to call the police and play the blame game. How ironic!

Qu Ling’er returned to Luo Yichen’s house—picked up the shopping bags again—and went downstairs. She could not bring these things to the police station. After much debate, she took them to the security officer’s office and said to the security officer who knew her, “Uncle, can I leave these things with you?”

“Sure, no problem.” The security officer chuckled and asked, “Young lady, your boyfriend hasn’t returned home yet?”

“Yes.” Qu Ling’er did not want to explain too much, so she simply agreed. “He’s very busy today and might come back late. I have something to do, so I’ll have to trouble you.”

“Sure, sure. Just leave them with me.” The security officer placed the items on the shelf and then took a piece of paper. He asked, “Young lady, what’s your name?”

“My name is Qu Ling’er, Qu as in ge qu1, Ling as in ji ling2 and er as in er zi3.” Qu Ling’er said.

The security officer wrote her name on the paper and placed it together with her things.

“Sorry to trouble you!” Qu Ling’er thanked him again before leaving the neighborhood and took a cab to the police station.

Ten minutes later, she arrived at the Dongcheng New District police station. After giving her name, the staff on duty made a call.

After a while, a middle-aged police officer came to the door and brought her in.

“Have a seat.” The police officer said, after sizing up Qu Ling’er. Then, he began to ask questions while another police officer took notes.

After asking some basic information, the police officer asked, “Mr. Luo said that you beat him up. Is that right?”

Qu Ling’er did not reply.

The police officer did not think Qu Ling’er looked like the kind of person who would hit someone. However, the chief had already instructed him with the case, so he had to ask, “Qu Ling’er, it’s useless to hide it. You’ve already injured and hospitalized him—criminal charges will be brought against you if the injury assessment is completed! You should still be in school at your age. If you break the law, do you know how much it will affect your future?”

“Officer, it was my birthday yesterday—my 18th birthday,” Qu Ling’er suddenly said.

The police officer was taken aback for a moment and said, “Even if it’s your birthday, you can’t hit someone!”

Qu Ling’er bit her lip and said, “Strictly speaking, I’m only an adult today. I did hit someone yesterday, but my guardian should take the main responsibility for this matter. You didn’t contact my father, Qu Zhisheng? By the way—Officer—please tell Mr. Luo that he knows very well the reason why I hit him. If he continues to harass me, I’ll fight to the end!”

Upon hearing this, the two police officers looked at each other. After a while, they said, “Alright, wait here. I’ll call the hospital to find out more about the situation. We’ll continue later.”

The police officers then left. But there were still people guarding the door of the interrogation room—it was obvious that they were watching Qu Ling’er and not letting her leave.

Fortunately, they did not take her cell phone away. She lowered her head and played with her cell phone. After playing for an hour, her cell phone only had 10% of battery left. She did not dare to continue playing and could only sit in the interrogation room and wait—she waited until nightfall. She had asked the auxiliary police at the door several times, but he just replied, “Please wait patiently.”

Qu Ling’er’s mood was very foul.

Luo Yichen finally finished his work for the day and reached home at 8.30 p.m.. Assistant Liu accompanied him home. When Assistant Liu saw the inside of the house, he said in surprise, “Is there a girl living in your house? Why is it so clean?”

Luo Yichen changed his shoes. As soon as he walked to the sofa, he saw the identity card lying on it.

Assistant Liu had hired a housekeeper who came to clean Luo Yichen’s place twice a week. So, he was surprised to find the house so clean and tidy.

Luo Yichen picked up the identity card. The lass looked gorgeous for an identity card photograph.

Assistant Liu turned on the air conditioner and turned to look at something in Luo Yichen’s hand. “What are you looking at?”

Luo Yichen quickly put the identity card into his pocket. “Nothing. I dropped a bank card here. I’m going to take a shower.”

Assistant Liu stood in the living room, puzzled. He suddenly noticed a pillow and a folded duvet on the sofa. He asked again, “Hey, Yichen, did you prepare the pillow and duvet on the sofa for me?”
