Loving A Triple Threat

Chapter 40 - The Friend Boy

It was still boys dance term.

Gi was feeling the street dance style. It was refreshing and free. It was great for working out frustrations or anger, and she could tell the boys had plenty of that to work out.

"Miss Reyn," Mr Paks called, "you're up."

The predictable hooting followed.

"Shut up!" Mr Paks said, "it sounds like you're threatened by her." His command to shut them up did not work anywhere near as well as his accusation that she scared them.

Mr Paks put on a different song for each student. They had been practising hard for four weeks and Gi had learned all the basic moves and worked them into her own style.

When she danced free-style Gi preferred to close her eyes and feel the music. Let it guide her.

The beat started. She closed her eyes and inhaled a deep breath as she listened, she moved her torso with the beat. Feeling it out.

She didn't know why, but she pulled the tie from her hair, she let is loose and she flung it in circles. Her torso was bent forward and moved her head in a circular motion with her hands on her knees.

She could only hear the music. No other sound penetrated her mind.

She let her spirit loose.

And moved.

She moved with the beat. All the forms were forgotten, they were smashed into her dance in the way her spirit d.e.s.i.r.ed. She looped her knees three times each site. She then backflipped onto her hands and knees and pushed up into a handstand.

While in a handstand she lifted one hand and then the other, in time with the beat before she pushed off into a crouching position. She leapt high and landed. Leapt high again, and landed.

The music was angry. It spoke to her spirit. She punched and punched again. Left, right at different angles in time with the music. She opened her eyes, fearful that she had moved too much and might hit someone.

All the boys had moved to the walls. Their backs plastered in place. They stood still looking startled deer. Staring at her.

She took the centre with a leap - into a crouch.

The music was still angry, so she brought in some Brazilian jiu-jitsu. She rolled, elbowed and kicked.

The music was coming to a close, she was on all fours on the ground, so she extended her leg out straight into the air and she turned like a top - her leg swept around. After completing a 270° she brought it underneath herself, breakdance style, and jumped over it.

And when the music stopped she flopped down with her head on the ground and her hair everywhere.

There was dead silence.

Mr Paks said nothing.

The pack of boys said nothing.

She stood, walked to her bag to grab her towel, and it was strange that all their heads followed her.

"I guess she learns fast," Mr Paks finally said. He sounded surprised.

The lesson resumed with Mr Paks calling the next boy to perform; the boy g.r.o.a.n.e.d loudly in complaint.

"Do you know why he's upset?" Jordan asked her quietly.

Gi shook her head in the negative.

"They never like to go after a good performance, it makes it harder to stand out," Jordan said softly. "It's the highest praise they could give you."

Gi wiped her face and leaned against the wall. She said softly in a confused tone, "They could just say - good dance."

Jordan chuckled lightly, his long hair moved as he shook his head, "Like that would ever happen. We are boys Gi, not girls."

Gi suddenly thought of Officer Jae-sun Ruek and chuckled. Remembering him clapping her, even if it was unprofessional. "Yes - boys." She stated while emphasising the word boys.

Jordan was called. But before he headed to centre stage for his turn he tilted his head to the side and said, "Good dance."

Jordan danced and he was spectacular. Gi felt like he put her to shame. And it was then she realised he was one of the last four. One of the boys she robbed. And the thought made her sad.

One of the pack beckoned her but she ignored him. She was watching Jordan dance. The pack boy sidled his way over to her and said snidely, "He's gay you know."

Gi sighed and wondered why that mattered.

"He's a way better dancer than you, you know." She said.

The boy scoffed, but he knew it was true and she could tell she shamed him.

Jordan finished as Mr Paks clapped once. But Gi clapped several times and called out loudly, "Great dance Jordan."

Every boy turned to look at her – in her sacrilege. Now it was obvious a girl had invaded their space, she even encouraged others.

"Thank you Gi," Mr Paks said chuckling. "It's good to support each other, no?" He said challenging the boys.

Gi almost laughed, Mr Paks knew he was teasing them, and he never supported them - he insulted them without remorse.

What a perverted teacher Mr Paks was. He even took p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e in hurting the boys' pride when he sounded like he cared.

"I have time for dinner," Gi said to Jordan as they waited for the last performance to finish.

He smiled at her. He must make the other gay boys swoon she thought, he was devilishly handsome.

"Sure," he said and then he sighed sadly.

"What's wrong?" She asked.

"It's just like me," he said and then added, "I'll explain at dinner."

Dinner time was limited, and Jordan didn't want to use the school cafeteria, so they both ran into the shopping district.

Gi received a text from Ren, and she replied quickly that she was with Jordan. He then demanded to know where she was. She ignored him. He was being stupid about Jordan.

They sat down at Seok's favourite café.

"How do you know this place is good?" Jordan asked.

"My friend Seok would have tried them all, and he thinks this is the best value for money," Gi replied.

Jordan laughed, "I know him. Smart. He's always number one."

Gi laughed, "Yes that's him."

"So, I guess you've heard by now?" Jordan said.

Gi knew what he meant by his tone and rather than answer him directly she jumped ahead in the conversation, "Jordan. I'm a girl remember. I wouldn't care even if I understood."

He laughed.

"I wished you were in all my classes," he said.

Gi thought about his words, the way he was always alone. How the other boys saw him as less for no good reason.

"Why do you even go to this school? If you went to a co-ed school, you could have friends who were girls even if the boys were stupid." Gi said what she thought.

"You know why, the academy," he replied with a wave of his hand.

She nodded and then it suddenly struck her. "Will it affect your career?"

He shook his head sadly, "Yes and No. I can thank Holland for being the first."

Gi knew that until Holland there was never an idol who was openly gay. And even he struggled.

"Will you hide it?" She asked out of curiosity.

"Yes," he said sadly.

"But what if the others blab," Gi said. "Every boy went out of his way to tell me you were gay." She thought of Ren. And she was upset that he put a negative spin on Jordan. If anything, Ren should be happy her only friend in boy dance was gay.

Her phone buzzed.

"One sec," she said to Jordan and walked off.

It was extremely rare for Ren to call, he would always text.

"What?" she asked.

"What do you mean what? What are you doing?" Ren demanded.

"I told you, I'm having dinner with Jordan." She replied.

Ren blurted, "But he's a guy! I'm your boyfriend!"

Gi said calmly, "I am going to say this and then I am going to hang up as I don't have much time for dinner. Jordan is my friend and you don't have to worry about anything because he's gay, like you so eagerly pointed out. Bye Ren. Love you." - Tap - End call.

Gi put her phone away.

"Sorry," she said, "you know, boyfriends."

They both laughed.

"Gi, you have no idea," Jordan stated, and they laughed even more.

They chatted for a while longer and ate.

"What about YG?" Gi asked.

Jordan smiled shyly, "They know. They want to keep it under wraps. If anything, no one will blab because it will hurt their chances with YG."

"If I didn't have a boyfriend I would be your cover," Gi said and they laughed.

Jordan shook his head, "We both know that while boys can have girlfriends, YG won't let you have a boyfriend."

"What?" Gi asked incredulously. "I thought that was just rumours. Red Velvet and Twice have boyfriends."

"Name one YG idol that has a boyfriend?" He asked.

"What the hell was Jennie Solo about? A boyfriend!" Gi exclaimed.

"An ex-boyfriend," Jordan replied, "let's talk about his later, we're out of time."

It was time to head back, so Gi checked her phone before they ran. Jordan kindly paid as he was the one who didn't want to go to the school cafeteria.

Ren had sent her a few texts, she would read them later.

And there were several messages from her YG mod as well as the YG Manager Mr Tong. He requested her presence at a meeting tomorrow.

There was no reason for the meeting stated.
