Many minds

Miao He was oblivious that Young Master Xu had helped elevate his profile. Since then, many of the town’s Young Masters have been eager to spread the word about the good fortune of Yangshui Teahouse if given a chance while unknowingly stepping on the prized Tofu Pudding from Dahe Restaurant.

The day after returning from town, Miao He…

Miao He was pressed onto the bed for another heated session. He had only gotten a new bed set; somehow, Yang Dalang took that to as something else. Miao He could not determine how. Further, as per Doctor Ji’s orders, any strenuous labor could now be exercised freely. Hence, Miao He was made love to again on the very day’s night.

Even though he had his wits about him this time, his efforts were fruitless. Yang Dalang was two completely different people inside and outside of the bedroom. The former was domineering and did as he pleased, whereas the latter was a considerate but reticent gourd whose thoughts they could only surmise. Of course, Yang Dalang did not use force or intend to hurt Miao He. Having experienced his domineering side, however, was enough to blank one’s mind and still feel good.

When Miao He came alive the next day, he felt like his body resembled a tossed, crippled shrimp. When Yang Dalang was preoccupied, Miao He thought that if he had known sooner, he would have purchased more beds too. Who knows, though, how many would suffice?

“Want to eat?” At this moment, Yang Dalang offered peeled lychee just before Miao He’s mouth.

Fruits that were out-of-season and grown in other regions, cultivated in the living soil, were consumed only at home. They dared not give it away. Miao, He learned from Doctor Ji that lychee was beneficial for patients with fractures. So, today, the two have been feasting on crystal-clear and plump lychees instead of eating tomatoes like they usually do.

Miao To hide his embarrassment, Miao He bit quickly. The fresh and tender flesh straightaway exuded out its juice. On instinct, Miao He licked it with the tip of his tongue, unwittingly licking the other person’s finger. He watched in shock and fear as Yang Dalang’s eyes darkened. The latter’s head gradually filled up his vision, and before he knew it, Miao He’s mouth was blocked too. In the end, Yang Dalang’s mouth replaced the lychee.

“Y-you…” Miao He’s face exacerbated several degrees hotter.

When he finished, Ya Dalang’s demeanor remained unchanged; he simply lowered his eyes and went back to peeling lychees as if the kiss had never happened.

A few lychees later, Miao He felt feverish from hot to toe. It was known that lychees were hot foods. A few minutes later, Miao He saw himself on the bed again when a particular activity was about to transpire. With his earlier experiences, he lost all energy to resist too much.

Naturally, Miao He knew about the honeymoon period.

He merely knew not that the honeymoon was much longer than he expected.

Nonetheless, business still had to keep going. When Miao He could finally move without strain, he prepared the town-bought cakes. Meanwhile, Yang Dalang carried the certificate for transferring ownership. Together, they embarked toward the village chief’s house to make a notice.

The village chief was all smiles as he welcomed them, but inwardly he felt upset.

‘How can someone be so lucky? Save a person, and a mountain shall be gifted.’

Still, the village chief said with a kind face, “This is due to Dalang’s luck. Others really could not help but envy. Haha. Although it is a mountaintop, I’m afraid there is a wasteland below it. So, so long as you, young people, continue to strive hard, your days will be well and prosperous.”

Yang Dalang nodded. “Thank you, Village Chief.”

“In the future, however, Dalang has to pay close attention to taxes. If you so take an interest in cultivating crops in the wasteland and making it a farmstead, you should know that the tax differs from that of the mountaintop. Otherwise, if you plan to grow them as a homestead, no taxes to you. The harvest season has just passed. How about you plant some soybeans? Through that, you could be exempted from paying taxes this autumn. Also, I, the chief, told Mister Miao not to mind what lies ahead,” the village chief said with a smile.

‘He doesn’t mind that I mind?’ Miao He laughed dryly in his heart. Then, Yang Dalang responded, “It’s anything but an inconvenience. It’s okay at home.”

The village chief smiled at them for a while as his reply. “A relief, not to mention the gifts the Liang Family recently gave. I have heard people talking about Brother He going to town to sell vegetables in the morning by carriage. That is also a good business.”

“It’s all thanks to the Liang family’s care,” Miao He said.

The village chief nodded meaningfully. “It’s great luck to form a connection with a very magnanimous people, namely the Liangs. Later on, if you may, perhaps you can partner with Mister Miao’s family and benefit the village too.”

A look of confusion emerged on Miao He’s face. Then, he smiled. “How can we reach someone powerful as Mister Miao?”

Hearing that, the village chief could not feel a little displeased.

He just proposed that Miao He plant soybeans and deliver them to Miao Jue’s family. And he desired for these two to agree. Therefore, in the future, only a handful of people would disparage Miao Jue’s family to favor the rich and disdain the poor. When Miao He agreed to sell soybeans to Miao Jue, it would ensure people let the matter go. So, what was there else to say?

Through this, he could sell better and more to Miao Jue. During the village assembly that day, Miao Jue entrusted the village chief to process the soybeans purchase on behalf of the former. Henceforth, the reverence of the village folks toward him had risen to a new level. Receiving such profound enthusiasm elated the village chief. Because it was only his feeling to stand on Miao Jue’s family to help deal with Brother He’s marriage that led him to make such a decision!

On one note, though, he recently wanted to aid his eldest nephew, Maio Gui, in being hired in the workshop, but he needed help to discuss it straight with Miao Jue. Thus, he thought it would be better if he had something to show first — soybeans — before raising the subject of his nephew. Who would have imagined Yang Dalang too openly turned down his proposal?! And Brother He — the village chief, had hinted if he could spare care to teach the villagers ways to sell vegetables. How could he not understand?!

‘Are these two intentional or unintentional on purpose?’ The village chief groaned inwardly.

‘I can’t tell why the Liang Mansion would give one of their mountain tops. It seems as if that their trying to make it obvious even more that they are superior to others, is it not? Just think about it; it’s nothing but a mountain. One that crops and vegetables could hardly grow. So what’s the use of getting it? This young couple — I’m afraid that they had no clue how powerful they were yet. Becoming a land owner is such a beautiful dream besotted by everyone!’

When no conflict of interest had risen, the village chief never minded serving the village. But the heart could not feel somewhat heavy when a critical crossroad appeared.
