He really was afraid that Gu Chenbai’s parents hated him

Tu Yan hid in Gu Chenbai’s arms and didn’t move. He pricked up his ears, and only after he couldn’t hear Gu Chaocheng’s footsteps did he poke his head out exasperatingly slowly and looked back. 

Gu Chaocheng had taken the elevator and left. 

Tu Yan breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he was about to take a step back, Gu Chenbai hugged his waist. 

Although it was only Gu Chenbai’s office on this floor, and there was no one else, Tu Yan still felt ashamed. He hurriedly broke away from Gu Chenbai’s arms, but Gu Chenbai didn’t let go and held him tight. 

“Student Tu Bao, did you make a mistake?”

Tu Yan straightened up his neck, “No.”

“How are you taking the initiative to show you’re being good if you didn’t make a mistake? My Tu Bao isn’t this good,” Gu Chenbai rubbed Tu Yan’s butt and asked him, “What did you just say? I saw that my ge’s face didn’t look too good when he left.” 

Tu Yan knew he had said something wrong and violated Gu Chaocheng’s taboo. But he also didn’t mean it, he was just eager to refute and didn’t hold his tongue for a moment. He regretted it when he saw Gu Chaocheng’s red eyes, but he was unwilling to be at a disadvantage. 

He casted all caution to the winds and complained first, “He scolded me very harshly too.”

“I’ll warn him about this. You tell me first, what did you just say?”

Tu Yan instantly wilted. He knew Gu Chenbai wouldn’t let him off today, so with eyes downcasted, he said dully, “…I said he made you get injured too, and said he doesn’t deserve to be your gege.” 

Gu Chenbai’s expression instantly became serious. Tu Yan was a little afraid and felt a little wronged. He pushed him aside and stood leaning to the side. 

Gu Chenbai was indeed a little mad, but he didn’t show it. He only coaxed softly, “Go apologise to him, alright? In his heart, this matter is something he could never get over with. If you said that to him, it probably made him think that it was my thoughts, he would really be very sad.” 

Gu Chenbai’s voice was very bewitching. In spite of the fact that Tu Yan never apologized to anyone due to his stubborn temper, he was ready to take action, but as he thought about Gu Chaocheng saying ‘my parents won’t accept you’, he felt a blockage in his heart. 

Gu Chaocheng had a hurtful spot, and so did Tu Yan. He really was afraid that Gu Chenbai’s parents hated him.

He was tangled up for a long time and said in the end, “I’m not going.”

Gu Chenbai felt a little helpless, looking at Tu Yan for a moment, “Fine, I’ll go then.”

Tu Yan bit his lip and didn’t say anything. 

Gu Chenbai turned around and left. When the elevator doors were about to close, Tu Yan leaned sideways and went inside, lowering his head and whispered, “I-I’ll go with you, but I’m not apologizing.” 

Gu Chenbai smiled, he reached out and hugged Tu Yan before kissing him, “So good.” 

Gu Chaocheng’s office was only a floor below Gu Chenbai’s, so they soon arrived. Before they got out of the elevator, Gu Chenbai put on Tu Yan’s mask for him, then took him to Gu Chaocheng’s office door. Fleeing in the face of danger, Tu Yan threw off Gu Chenbai’s hand and ran off to the side on his own, pretending to appreciate the sculptures. 

Gu Chenbai couldn’t help but smile. He knocked on the door and pushed it open to go in after hearing Gu Chaocheng’s voice. 

Gu Chaocheng was standing by the window, but after seeing Gu Chenbai, his face changed. Acting as though nothing happened, he asked, “What’s the matter?”

“Still angry?” Gu Chenbai walked over, smiling as he said, “I’m apologising on behalf of the little fella, he’s outside, embarrassed to come in.” 

Gu Chaocheng snorted coldly. 

“Don’t take what he said today to heart,” Gu Chenbai walked up to Gu Chaocheng and rested his arm on his shoulder, “Ge, it’s been so many years, how can you still blame yourself? It’s not necessary.” 

Gu Chaocheng looked at Gu Chenbai’s reflection through the glass; with sharply contoured angles, mature and steady. He then realized that his little brother was already twenty-six years old, and the car accident was also an old story from eleven years ago. Gu Chaocheng would always remember the fifteen year old Gu Chenbai smiling at him as he lied on the hospital bed, “Gege, don’t be sad, I’m okay.”

Gu Chenbai didn’t know at the time that the car accident would bring him a lifelong disability, still naively thinking that he would recover in a few months and could go back to continue playing basketball.  

“We’re brothers, we’re siblings, if the car had hit me that day, you’d also run over regardless of danger and push me away, wouldn’t you?” 

Gu Chaocheng was silent for a long time, then said slowly, “I’d rather be the one who got hurt.” 

“Ge, don’t be like that, I’ve never once blamed you.”

“I know.”

Gu Chenbai changed the topic and complained, “Can the two of you get along well? You quarrel as soon as you meet?”

“Can you make sure he won’t change his mind this time? I really want to know how thick your heart is that you’re able to withstand the kind of hurt from him.” 

“I can withstand it,” Gu Chenbai smiled warmly and turned his cane twice, “It’s just scratches from tiny claws, they don’t hurt.”

Gu Chaocheng was so angry that he had nothing else to say. He then pushed Gu Chenbai aside, “Stay away from me, there’s an omega scent on your body, it makes me sick.”

Gu Chenbai smiled more happily, “Don’t be stubborn, I want to see what kind of omega would capture you in the future.” 

“It won’t be someone like Tu Yan anyway.” 

Gu Chenbai snickered and turned around to leave. Gu Chaocheng said from behind him, “Don’t worry, since you’ve made your decision, I’ll support you in any way.” 

“Thanks,” Gu Chenbai lifted his hand. 

When he walked out the door, Tu Yan was still picking at the innocent deer-shaped fiberglass sculpture. His entire body froze for two seconds when he heard Gu Chenbai’s footsteps, then he walked towards the elevators without looking back. 

Gu Chenbai caught up with him. After hitting the down button, he pressed Tu Yan against the wall and leaned his forehead on his, helplessly saying, “What did I do wrong that I have to coax the other side then coax this side?”

“Who wants you to coax, go away!”

Gu Chenbai kissed him without giving him the chance to be difficult, but Tu Yan bit his tongue as it reached into his mouth. Feeling pain, Gu Chenbai released him. Tu Yan was afraid that he did it too hard, yet felt embarrassed to ask Gu Chenbai, so he lowered his head and tightened his hold on the plastic bag of food boxes in his hand. 

He was secretly excited the entire way as it was the first time he came to deliver dinner to Gu Chenbai, bubbling with happiness, but then Gu Chaocheng directly poured a basin of cold water on him, causing three people to be upset. 

Gu Chenbai pulled him into the elevator, and Tu Yan said, “I’ll head off first then, you eat slowly.”

Gu Chenbai held his wrist but didn’t use much strength, only vaguely circling it. Tu Yan could fling it off. 

But he didn’t. 

He turned around and hugged Gu Chenbai’s waist, taking the initiative to reach up and kiss him, then buried his face into the crook of Gu Chenbai’s neck. He said in low spirits, “You only coaxed him, you didn’t coax me.”
