Chapter 100 - Grey Brick Town

Xiao Wu didn't know whether Mingyue's word was the truth or it was a mere coincidence, but after spending a few days in the wilderness, Mingyue and company finally arrived at the nearest settlement, a town.

Different from a standard city, this town was more rural. The place was kind of dirty as there was a lot of wagon and carriage moving around. Even some horse and donkey were allowed to be brought inside the town, there was almost no restriction. If you made a difference between city, town, and village, then the city would be the most advanced, followed by the town, and the last was the village. Mingyue wanted to add settlement behind the village, but not all villages were better than a settlement.

This town was called Grey Brick Town, part of the northern Earth Kingdom. The people called the northern area of the Earth Kingdom as a barren land since it was close with a dessert. Even if there was an unnamed forest nearby, it was a dangerous place and there were some mid-tier Fierce Beast.

For a place like this, a low-tier Fierce Beast was considered as dangerous existence, while a mid-tier Fierce Beast was the spell of disaster.

You could say that this unnamed forest was the Earth Kingdom's version of Cloudy Mist Forest, with the exception that the Cloudy Mist Forest was filled with mid-tier Fierce Beast in the inner region.

The Grey Brick Town was mostly filled with the old and rundown building. Many mercenaries were coming in and out of the town as they were escorting wagon and carriage. Even if this town was not registered as a Grade 1 Mercenary City, the number of the mercenary in the Grey Brick City was not low at all.

Mingyue and company didn't have any trouble as they went through the gate. There was no inspection as there was only one guard, and he was dozing off without care.

As they were exploring the unique building and outfit of the surrounding people, Fu Tao and Liao Yun were no different from a country bumpkin. Moreover, with their animal skin as their outfit, both of them felt like they were alienated.

There were also many kinds of peddlers on the side of the main road. Some were selling some consumable food, selling or repairing weapon, and even a lot of random things was displayed. But Mingyue could see that the things on the display were sold there was a random crap. After taking a glance a little, Mingyue didn't look for the second time as she moved forward.

"Hey, don't you think that we are attracting attention?" Liao Yun whispered at Mingyue as she felt uncomfortable by the stare from the people surroundings.

After entering the town, they immediately attracted attention. Even if they didn't know what happen, they just kept walking while looking for the Mercenary Guild. But no matter where they went, all eyes would be aimed at them until Liao Yun felt uncomfortable.

"I don't know. . . Maybe because of your outfit?"

"Of course they would stare at us. There is no one who wore the animal skin as their outfit, except us." Fu Tao chimed in and pointed at Iron-Skinned Rhinoceros's carcass behind them. "Unlike them, we are the only one dragging this thing."

"Sigh. You idiot Tofu, look at what you have done. If only we dismantle this thing, we will not attract any attention like this" Liao Yun glared at Fu Tao even though it was no one's fault.

After the fight against the pack of Iron Skinned Rhinoceros, Liao Yun and Fu Tao didn't plan to do anything to the Fierce Beast's carcasses. Of course, the main reason because the Iron-Skinned Rhinoceros's meat was inedible and smelly. It was unsuitable for their dinner. But because of Mingyue's suggestion, Liao Yun and Fu Tao changed their mind.

There was something important that Liao Yun and Fu Tao never experienced. Coins, aka funds. One of the important parts of the humanity. By selling the sellable part of the Iron-Skinned Rhinoceros, Mingyue would be able to gain some coins for their journey. Mingyue and company didn't know which part that was valuable, in the end, the brought one carcass that was in a better condition and left the other carcasses.

Even though an Iron-Skinned Rhinoceros was big and heavy, it was not a problem with Liao Yun and Fu Tao's summoned bear. Even though Fu Tao was well-versed in the summoned swordfish, his summoned bear was enough for some heavy job like dragging or pushing the bunch of the Iron-Skinned Rhinoceros.

Summoning a summoned beast was not difficult. The only difficulty was the prolonged summoning, especially the materialized summoned beast, not the ethereal one. The longer the summoned beast was materialized, the heavier the burden.

That was the main reason why Fu Tao and Liao Yun rode a horse even though they could materialize their summoned beast. It was not effective and inefficient.

Mingyue planned to sell these carcasses to gain some starter fund since the Wind Chasing Tribe was foreign with the concept of coins. Don't forget that the Wind Chasing Tribe was a self-sufficient tribe.

"Well well, let's leave it for later. As long as we can sell these things off, we will be able to continue our journey."

After asking a few people on the road, Mingyue and company finally arrived at the Mercenary Guild. Unlike the big Mercenary Guild at the Green River City, the Mercenary Guild at the Grey Brick Town was more like a rundown house. No, it was a rundown place. But there was the advantage of the Mercenary Guild at the Grey Brick Town, they would accept any kind of material. For example, Fierce Beast's carcass.

Arrived at the Mercenary's Guild door, Mingyue stopped and pushed Fu Tao inside.

"Go, sell all of these things."

"Hey, seriously? I don't know what I have to do." Fu Tao was fl.u.s.tered since everything around him was foreign to him.

He knew nothing.

"Just go to the counter or the receptionist's desk. Nah, forget it. I will come with you." Mingyue shook his head since it was impossible to leave Fu Tao alone. She turned her head at Liao Yun while dismounted from Xiao Wu and said, "Little Yun, can you wait for a while? Take care of these things while Tofu and I went inside."

"Can we just go inside together?" Liao Yun crossed her hand as her eyebrow was knitted. She clearly didn't like to be left behind alone.

"Then, I will be the one outside." Fu Tao volunteered to stay behind while keeping an eye on their luggage.

"Yeah, but I will need a man since it was impossible for the guild's people to take care of a little girl like me." Mingyue only stated the truth because she remembered her experience at the Mercenary Guild of the Green River City.

"Sigh. It is annoying. . . Ah, how about that?" Liao Yun pointed at Mingyue's black hair.

"Disguise?" Mingyue tilted her head a little as she contemplated Liao Yun's question.

Before Mingyue and company reached the town, Mingyue stopped for a while to apply her disguise. Of course, her disguise was a little simple because she only changed her hair colour by fusing her hair with Yin Yang Fish.

But rather than calling it a fusion, it was more like enshrouding her whole hair with a black colour from Yin Yang Fish. It was not the real skill of a Summoner or Warrior Summoner, but Mingyue's application of a Warrior Summoner's Battle Technique.

But unlike a Battle Technique, this skill was nothing more than a fraud because it was only hiding Mingyue's hair colour.

But if it was Liao Yun, it was possible. The only problem was one. . .

". . . Can you pretend to be a man all day?" Mingyue didn't believe that Liao Yun was willing to become a man all day since it was tiring.

"Why? Forget it, just leave that stinky Tofu alone!" Liao Yun fumed as she shot a killing glare toward Fu Tao.

"Sigh. We will not know whether Tofu will be tricked or not, but let's just pray that he will be fine." Mingyue gave Fu Tao a pitying look. She didn't care how much coins they would gain from selling the whole of the Iron-Skinned Rhinoceros, but she didn't want to be scammed. Moreover, Fu Tao and Liao Yun were a newbie, and Mingyue was not much better than them.

"I am happy for you to trust me, but my name is not Tofu you know?" Fu Tao was powerless in front of Liao Yun, but he couldn't afford to look useless in front of Mingyue.

Who was willing to look weak in front of a girl? Moreover, the said girl was similar to a normal little girl at the age of ten. A little girl.

If he himself didn't see her four years ago, he wouldn't believe that the current Mingyue was fourteen years old, similar to Liao Yun.

His pride was challenged! But by standing in the foreign place indeed making him a little nervous.

"It's okay. I trusted you. We need quick cash, so make sure to sell that thing. Even if we need more cash, just hunt them again, right?" Mingyue just waved her hand as if she was shooing a stray dog.

[Sigh. If I am alone, it is hard to sell these things. Since Iron-Skinned Rhinoceros's hide is strong, it should be able to sell at a good price as material. But the problem is. . .] Even if Mingyue didn't depend on her sense of smell, she could clearly feel the hostility aimed at her group.

Blatantly bringing the Fierce Beast's carcass on the public was not a good idea for sure since it would show that you would get a large number of coins later. She believed that there should be some trouble after they got the coins.

But there was also a chance that the Guild's personnel would cut the material's price and paid them cheaply. Unfortunately, no one of us knew about the price of the material.

But even if they didn't receive a right amount of coins, as long as they could get their basic necessities, Mingyue was fine with all of it.

After getting out of the unnamed forest, Mingyue had shared her plan to both Liao Yun and Fu Tao.

The first was getting quick cash since the foundation of the current civilization was heavily depended on the coins. Thus, meeting the Iron-Skinned Rhinoceros was a good timing for Mingyue. By selling its carcass as material, they should be able to get a good sum of coins. Of course, assuming that the guild's personnel didn't trick them.

The second. Getting some basic necessity at the town. And also they needed to get some clothes for themselves since it was impossible to always wear an animal skin all day. Also, Liao Yun and Fu Tao would definitely need a mercenary gear like armour or something similar.

The third, as well as the last, was hiring a group of mercenary. It was not because Liao Yun and Fu Tao's combat abilities were low, but rather to understand the combat abilities of another.

No, that was not the main reason for hiring the mercenaries.

Direction.

More exactly, Mingyue didn't know their current position.

From her memory, Mingyue remembered that map was something rare for a commoner. Only the higher up or the Royal Family would have one, but that map didn't even have any detail.

If Mingyue and company planned to reach the nearest city, the best choice was to hire some experienced mercenaries as a bodyguard, an escort. Of course, in order to hire the mercenaries, they would have to have cash on them.

And by interacting with the hired mercenaries, Mingyue would be able to know about the surrounding towns and cities. Also, Liao Yun and Fu Tao would be able to hear various stories from the mercenary later, rather than pestering her to share another story.

[I have run out of story] was not something she could possibly say.
