「What’s wrong?」
「Ladi, I’m sorry, it’s late」
「It’s fine」

The daytime party was fun.

I had so much fun that I temporarily forgot about my worries.

But when everyone goes to bed and it gets quiet, it’s a memory I remember.

I’ve been caught, I’ve escaped, I’ve almost given up, and I’ve been saved.

Even though it was only a few days, it became the most memorable event in my memory.

So now I’m struggling with the position I’m in.

「What should I do?」

I asked as I sat in my chair and held Ladi.

「What?」
「I was wondering if I should just go with Yuan-san and the others」
「What’s troubling you?」
「That is…」

If I go with them, I’m only going to be a nuisance.

「Yuan-san is a great magician, and Rinshia-san and Snow-san are both strong. I’ll just be a liability」
「And?」
「Ladi may not know this, but being an adventurer is all about competence」
「I know. I’m also a good friend to my subordinates」
「Yes, you are」

Ladi rules the Demonic Rats of this city. I think that is a very hard thing to do. It seems that the monsters are the real power in the society.

「There are many children under my command. Some are strong, some are weak, but they will all do their best」
「I see」

It seems that even monsters have individual differences.

「Are people different?」
「I’m doing my best, I think…」

Adventurers are always next to death. I have known it firsthand. But even if I work hard, I will not easily acquire the ability to do so. It is not easy to catch up. So my presence would surely be a hindrance. That’s how many times I’ve been turned down from parties.

「What about Yuan and the others?」
「I don’t know…」

What if they refuse? I couldn’t say I wanted to join them right away.

But Yuan and the others gave me time. They gave me a choice.

I think if I asked, they would let me join them.

That’s why I really don’t know if that’s the right thing to do.

「Then, you should try it, behind you」
「Eh?」

I turned around and saw Rinshia-san standing there.

「T-This is…」
「What?」

After all this time, I realized that Rinshia-san is a quiet person and has hardly ever spoken.

Rinshia-san was the first to open her mouth as I was too nervous to speak.

「If you have something to say, say it」
「Yes, right. Would Rinshia-san and the others be annoyed if I followed?」

What I most want to hear. If it’s not too much trouble…

I find myself a bit hopeful about Rinshia-san’s answer.

「Annoyance」
「I-Is that right」

Rinshia-san answered without a hint of thought. So this is how she really feels.

I was sobbing at her answer, but Rinshia-san continued.

「If things continue as it is」
「As it is?」
「It’s a mistake to even think of following in the first place. I don’t babysit」
「What do you mean… ?」

I do not know what Rinshia-san is trying to say. Doesn’t following you mean going with you?

「Simply following behind is annoying, but if you’re going to stand shoulder to shoulder with me, that’s fine by me」
「Ah…」

I can’t make myself useful. So there is nothing I can do. I think they knew that I was thinking that way.

How can someone who thinks that way from the beginning be of any use to anyone?

It sounds cold, and I feel that Rinshia-san is thinking about me, and that’s the way she feels.

「The lack of confidence is due to lack of experience. But if that’s the only reason you’re standing still, you’re in my way」
「Will experience make me stronger? Can I help everyone?」
「I don’t know anything about that」
「But I have to be strong to be with everyone!」
「Why?」
「Because I would be a liability」
「Trivial thoughts」

I can see Rinshia-san looking at me like I am a bother.

「Because…」
「Yuan is not good at attacking, and I accept that」
「That’s because Yuan-san is good at magic…」
「Yeah. Still, there are some things you can’t do alone. I do, and so does Snow. What about Kiara?」
「I, too」
「From Kiara’s point of view, is Yuan a liability because she is not good at attacking Am I a liability when I rush in?」

When I saw Rinshia-san’s fight, I thought she rushes into things, but I was surprised that she was aware of them. But I don’t think that’s what’s holding Rinshia-san back.

「That’s not true」
「That’s what I mean. We are friends, we can make up for it, we can fight together. And yet, Kiara is just trying to stay behind. So that’s a hindrance」

Despite the fact that we were together in the lord’s mansion, there was nothing I could have done.

No, actually there was. I could have used my bow to provide support before Yuan-san instructed me to do so. I could have given more instructions to Ladi to gather more information or have him support us.

I just didn’t try to do them. I just didn’t realize them.

I’m not sure if I can…

「Is there anything I can do?」
「Yeah. There is a role for everyone. It’s just whether you can find it or not」

Rinshia-san said that was no hesitation.

What can I do?

Bow? Summoning? There are many things that could be done. Surely if I choose one of them…

「What I can do…」
「That’s no good. First, stand on the line of death with your friends. Look at a different view from the same perspective. Otherwise, no matter how much you think about it, it’s useless. Roles are not something you look for, they are not something you choose, they are something you find naturally」
「Naturally?」
「With trust, I don’t have to think about my own defense if I leave it to Yuan. With Snow, I don’t have to think about protecting Yuan. I don’t have to think about it, I can do it. That’s natural, that’s trust」
「So you want me to stand in the line of death with the same gaze?」
「Ku…………… that’s right」

Rinshia-san’s shoulders shook and turned to the side. Suddenly I am surprised and apprehensive.

「Rinshia-san?」
「Nothing, nothing. I’m tired of talking. I’m going to bed」

Apparently, she just got tired of talking. It’s only been a few days since we met, but I’ve never seen Rinshia-san talk so much, and I’m a bit convinced and relieved.

But I haven’t told her my answer yet.

「But my answer is still…」
「There is a deadline. You can figure it out by then」

Rinshia-san approached the window and looked up at the night sky.

「Nice month. But a little more」

Looking up at the night sky, Rinshia-san smiled a little and I thought she mumbled something, but it could have been my imagination.

「Well, good night」

With that, Rinshia-san crawls into bed with Yuan-san.

「My answer…」
「It’s okay to think about it. I’ll stay with you until the end」

In my arms, Ladi replied.

「Thank you」
「It’s fine」

With Ladi in my arms, I get up and look out the window at the night sky.

「I’ve got to keep working hard」

Facing the moon smiling in the night sky, I would announce my decision.

Author-san

Sorry. It is quite short.
I could not have the time for a moment.
But here is the start of Chapter 3.
I have decided on the structure, but have not yet decided on the chapter titles, so please wait.

I would like to write Rinshia’s point of view, but for story reasons, I had to go with Kiara first.
So maybe I’ll write about it over the weekend (I won’t).

Thank you always for reading.
Thank you for your continued support.
