Chapter 2: The City of Tanza

「Uu…… I feel sick」
「You okay?」
「I’m fine… Treatment!」

I didn’t know that eating too many sweets could make you feel sick. The restorative magic helped me feel better, but my stomach was still full and I was still in pain.

「So, why is Snow tagging along?」
「I wanted to know what kind of informant Rinshia trusts. We need information, too」

After leaving the candy store, we headed to a place where Shia-san’s imouto was staying. She didn’t seem to be there earlier, but is she there now?

「I stopped by Il-nee’s place to check on her, no problem. They’re supposed to be at a particular place by mid-afternoon」
「A particular place?」
「Informants are always at risk. That’s why they don’t live in one place, but several」
「You’re in good hands」

If they only use one base, they might be attacked when they get dangerous information. In order to avoid this, they have several bases and try not to let anyone narrow them down.

「Um, Shia-san, is this the place?」
「Un. Maybe」

Shia-san brought us to a house… not exactly a house, but a shack that looked like it was about to fall down. It’s not the safest part of town… it’s a corner of the city called the slums.

「Definitely a decent place to hide out」
「She’s not always here… is she?」

I’d like to believe that she’s usually somewhere else, because there’s no way she’d be residing in a shack that could collapse at any time. I don’t think I would be able to live here comfortably due to my heightened sense of danger.

「Luri, you here?」

Shia-san knocked on the door. Bam!

「Shia-san, don’t break it, okay?」
「I didn’t mean to」

The door came flying off. With a light tap, the door collapsed.

「Hey, can you please not destroy my house!?」

As soon as the door collapses, an angry voice comes from inside.

「Luri, long time no see」
「H-Huh? Shia oneechan!」

A girl with wolf ears… not dog ears, jumped out of the shack and jumped onto Shia-san energetically. She has short hair, is about the same height as me or a little bit taller, and is cute like a tiny Shia-san.

「Mou, please tell me when you’re coming back」
「Just got here yesterday」
「Then, it can’t be helped! Shia oneechan, can you pet me like you always do?」
「Un」

Shia-san pats her sister on the head. I have a feeling her sister hates me, but maybe it’s just my imagination.

「Ehehe~」

Shia-san patted her, which made her very happy. They are sisters, they get along well, that’s inevitable! Isn’t it a little… too long for just a pat? Shia-san’s hand is still on top of her sister’s head. Obviously, it’s a bit too long… gununu…

「Yuan, looks scary」
「Fue? That’s not true, all right?」

Ehh, that’s not true. In fact, I’m more afraid of the way imouto-san looks at me.

「Shia oneechan, who are these people?」
「My Lord Yuan and her friend Snow」
「I, a friend… Ah, I apologize for the delay, my name is Snow Cuone. A friend of Shia-san’s and Yuan-san’s!」

Snow-san is happily greeting imouto-san, I should greet her too.

「Nice to meet you, I’m Yuan, I’m in a party with Shia-san. I look forward to working with you!」
「Shia oneechan’s Lord… That was rude of me! I’m her imouto, Lurilna. Nice to meet you!」

She hastily smiled and bowed in response to my greeting. Then she offers her hand. A handshake, perhaps. But I can’t take that hand.

「What’s wrong?」
「No, my sense of danger is reacting. I can’t take your hand」

She looked a little surprised at my response and smiled as she straightened her posture.

「Yes, you’re correct!」

A purple dagger emerged from her loose sleeve.

「I’m glad you’re not the kind of person who takes my hand without caution!」
「I knew it, there was a hidden weapon」
「Yes, informants are always in danger. There’s not a single piece of information I would ever give to an idiot!」

It appears that I was tested.

「I’m glad big Shia oneechan’s Lord is a decent person」
「Yeah. Yuan is decent. And cute」
「Mu~, who, me?」
「Yuan」
「Eh~ …… But I don’t mind, since being Shia oneechan’s Lord means that you’re also my new oneechan. Now, please come inside, Yuan oneechan and Snow-san from Resistance」
「Wha, you knew about that!」
「Of course. I’m an informant」

Lurilna-san laughs mischievously. From the looks of it, she knew we had arrived in the city yesterday, and was putting on an act.

We follow Lurilna-san inside… before I stop in my track.

「What’s wrong, Yuan oneechan?」
「No, this is…」

The whole room was filled with a sense of danger. Although I could handle it, I knew it was a very dangerous place to be inside.

「Mu~ I was pretty confident」

Lulirna-san pranced and jumped around the small shack, clinking and fiddling with various places.

「Yes, this’ll work… I think?」
「I think that it is all right」

It was refreshing. Not the inside of the shack, but the danger sensor is no longer reacting.

「Well then, let’s go!」
「Eh, where are we going?」
「Fufu, as expected, you didn’t see through all this! I’d be in trouble if you could!」

Lurilna-san carefully peeled back the floor. What appeared there was…

「A ladder… ?」
「Yeah! We can’t talk in this shack!」

Apparently, she was aware that it was a ragged shack. Or rather, a perfect disguise. We followed Lurilna-san down the ladder and found ourselves in a stone passage.

「Ah, wait here while I go re-set the traps!」
「Okay」
「You must. There are a lot of traps ahead, so if you go on your own, there’s no guarantee that you’ll survive, all right?」

With that, Lurilna-san climbed up the ladder again. Is it possible to lock us in?

「Luri likes to play pranks, but she knows what she’s doing, so it’s okay…………… maybe」

I’m worried about that maybe! Gogogo! Just then, I heard the sound of something heavy scraping above us. Could it be…

「Sorry for the wait!」
「Welcome back」

As soon as the sound stopped, Lurilna-san came down. It seems that she has returned normally.

「Did you think you might be trapped~?」
「No, I didn’t」
「Mm-hmm. I’m not gonna do that! Because if I lock you in, there’s no point!」

It seems that my fears were unfounded. I’m relieved.

「Okay, let’s go! Shia oneechan and Snow-san will lead the way!」
「Eh, wouldn’t it be dangerous with the traps?」
「Yeah, it’s dangerous? That’s why you two are in front. Yuan oneechan passed my test, but you two haven’t yet! Also, you are not allowed to help them, Yuan oneechan!」

She looks awfully happy!

「Um, what’s the test?」
「It’s just a simple test to get through the traps!」
「No, I mean, what’s the point of doing the test?」
「Like I said, it’s because I have no information to give to idiots. Or rather, there’s no point in giving it to them if they can’t get through this easily enough!」

The information Lurilna-san has may be that significant.

「Okay」

Shia-san nodded and took the lead herself.

「As expected of Shia oneechan! Snow-san, you can leave if you want. What do you say?」
「I, too, will proceed. I can’t let something like this stop me」
「I understand! Well then, let’s go!」

With Lurilna-san’s words as our cue, we proceeded. Will we be able to get out of here safely?

Author-san

Shia-san’s imouto has appeared. I was a little worried about her name.
Everyone’s name is four letters and easy to abbreviate… Luri, Luna, I had a hard time deciding how to abbreviate it.
I’m really not good at thinking of names.
I think it’s time to name the village where we met Shia-san.
In case you’re wondering, the setting was originally a nameless village that was in the process of developing into a city, and is in the process of being given a name.
That’s what it’s like.
