If I Were A Creator

Chapter 45 - Akka (2)

The feast of the gods ended early, the three gods leaving due to special circ.u.mstances while the crowd laments on their apparent disgust at the city. Of course, the male priests blame her indirect presence being filth to the gods while Nabu blamed her lie, but she gave them a cold shoulder. She didn't care that the gods left early, she knew what was going on.

There were only several people like her who went to serve in the heavenly lands, and only she returned. The gods were not united, much like humans themselves, but the gods were only divided into two factions.

There were the Bahith, a faction that actively seeks the rumored incarnations of their gods, seeking to merge with them an attain unimaginable power. Then, the faction she served for 2 years, the Baal, the faction that directly interferes with humans as their deities to lead them as allies of the Baal if the Bahith were to attack someday.

The relationship between the factions were complicated, the Bahith weren't exactly hostile but their violent and barbaric rituals disturbed the Baal faction. Especially since a millennium before, when they discovered that the Bahith were actively searching for their gods in humans and these kidnapped humans were captured and tortured for information. Not to mention that they have gleaned knowledge of the Bahith building an army, and that raised many red flags.

That made the Baal faction decide to cut their time in the mortal part of the desert in order to train hard and prepare for an upcoming event christened as the war of heaven. With how durable Nazar are, the war could last for centuries before any sign of victory would show. Of course, only she and a select few would know, since only a few of them were brought there. But the gods were very friendly and open guests, even as a servant, she was treated as family.

A week after the festival, the skies darkened as lightning surged in the heavens. Howling winds blew upon the temple complex, causing prayer pots to tumble and plants to sway violently. Soon, Athanasius in all of his zeus like glory descended.

The priests were awestruck, and many forgot to prostrate before the god of thunder before them. His arrival was unexpected for as far as anyone knows, Athanasius had no worshippers here, shouldn't he be in those faraway cities nearby the endless lake (this is the late stone age, not everyone knows what the sea is.)? Athanasius' neon blue marks crackled in electricity and struck the frozen believers, causing them to drop forward.

The nazar announced with a booming voice, "I am Athanasius, Lord of Thunder and Turbulent Skies, I come to grace this city with my eternal protection." Thunderbolts rained down as he said protection, adding a dramatic effect and flaunting his might to the primitive humans. The high priest, Nabu, came to welcome him and called his servants to fetch him food and offerings for their new lord.

Upon his arrival, Akka sensed him and went to work by taking out her old scrubbing gear. She walked down the halls with a defeated look as she prepares to keep the end of her bargain. Luckily, no one knew her sacrifice and no one saw her defeated expression as she marched to the seated nazar.

She made a bow to her lord, and greeted him respectfully in the nazar language, "Baruch haba, Baaloah." Athanasius nodded and gestured for her to climb and start scrubbing while he is perched upon the massive sculpted thrones made for his kind and ate a banquet fit to feed a thousand men. Akka positioned herself on his back, recalling on how to sit comfortably on a nazar's back.

Then, she took out her tools, relics from the heavenly land of the nazar. A pink and soft pebble the size of her right arm which is rough on hand but smooth and slippery after touching water. She believes it is called soap, a luxury object for the deities.

Then, she took out a massive pestle almost half her size with a sharp, trident like edge. Nazar magic shrunk it so she could carry it inside her pot whenever Athanasius demanded a scrub. It was used to kill parasites as they feed but it also scratched the host as it searched or missed parasites, killing two birds with one stone.

The gods had a name for it but she had forgotten. Considering that she's not exactly thrilled to find out what new parasites Athanasius had bred on his feathery back. First, she unleashed the pestle, knowing from experience that soap would draw the many parasites to her.

She scratched between his feathers, earning an audible m.o.a.n of satisfaction. Soon, she swept a perimeter around her and found no parasites. Then, she began scrubbing with he soap.

White foam magically forms wherever the soap is rubbed, and all dirt and grime disappear into the foam, vanishing into thin air. Using the pestle, she rakes the soap into areas beyond the perimeter, aiming to clean while attracting all parasites to be whacked by her pestle. Soon, soft clicks could be heard and she saw her target.

A lone dog sized mite scuttled its way to her, attracted by an unknown component of the magic soap. Akka found it odd that a swarm of parasitic insects have not come to attack her for the soap. Once in range, the priestess slammed the pestle on its body, cracking its shell as the pestle's claws penetrate into its internal organs.

The mite let out a dying cry before it went limp, and the soap decomposed its body into gases that diffuse into the arid atmosphere. Akka continued scrubbing the soap, spreading it throughout his back and yet, she encountered no more parasites. Relieved but also suspicious, she whispered into the nazar's ear, "You were just scaring me, weren't you?"

The nazar grinned and replied, "So what if I am, aren't you grateful that I stopped?" With her normal voice, Akka answered, "I am, but the week long nightmares could've been avoided you know?" Athanasius laughed in his baritone voice, "Well, I always had a laugh because of your fear of all things creepy and crawling."

"A well known fact indeed thanks to you, parasite breeder." Muttered the priestess under her breath.

"What was that?" Asked the nazar.

"Oh nothing my lord." She sarcastically replied.

The thunder god decided to leave it be, she was always sore about her fears. Considering that she is a human woman, a weakness would spell doom to her in this primitive stone age society. Priests would bully her, rich brats would prank her, a lot of bad things would happen to women in unenlightened societies like this.

Their technology has only scratched the surface of the bronze age and their morals are no different than their species' stone age. The 17 century strife thing must've really messed them up.

As a guardian, Athanasius regularly patrols the city, scouting for threats and extinguishing potential ones. As gods could detect the intention of anyone who looked at them without mistake, Athanasius effectively eliminated all seeds of rebellion and treachery which could potentially turn the city into ruins. At noon, he would return to a carved out chamber in the city's nearby plateau for lunch and entertainment.

Akka was a regular visitor to his abode, as his attendant, feather scrubber and fellow reader. They regularly conversed on topics of human history, politics and even some science, in which she showed considerable insight on despite her age. Athanasius enjoyed her intellectual company, because priests were completely incompetent in the fact that they could not argue with him without begging for mercy and that they are incessant in their pursuit of his favor.

If you need an army to defend the city, you can train them and they'll fight with all their might and new acquired skills that are gospel to them.

Months passed by quite quickly, not much activity was going on in the city. Enemy encampments were raided by Athanasius and because of that, there were no more cities with hostile intentions towards Atrahasis. To add salt to the wound, the city prohibited incense from being sold to those hostile cities in order to teach them a lesson.

Thanks to this, the economy of banned cities worsen and their rulers regret bullying them in the first place. Peace offerings were made but they all failed to sway the city's officials and so suffered a roadblock in their growth.

Soon, two years past and Akka grew several inches taller, reaching two inches from the modern supermodel height. Her bosom also grew in size, increasing her appeal in the eyes of men. Even the priests show a little more respect to her, but some of them couldn't control their urges and tried to defile her body.

At first, she called Athanasius for help, he brought lightning upon them and stopped the perverted stares for a year. After that, it came back and worse, she could see the shape of their shame from their robes. Even the old man that despised her had that occasionally.

At least, she could finally climb the ranks and become the second high priest, by virtue of Athanasius claiming her as his prophet. As a high priest, she doesn't have to steal tablets for reading anymore and she had no purchase restrictions due to her gender.

With writing tools and construction tools, she could record the results of her conversations with Athanasius, allowing her to permanently remember the knowledge he gained from their talks. Now, she could remember what they picked up on and didn't have to repeat the same topic several times because of faulty memory.

As for the construction tools, she needed it to decorate and expand his cave. She took it as a leisure leisure time when there are no new tablets to read or write on. It also helped her learn a little about masonry, construction and art.

She built a chamber connected to Athanasius' room for her to experiment and sleep in if he needs her overnight services, which later on becomes her permanent home because after several months, she found it tiring to walk three kilometers home at night.
