Unease and Truth 2

“Nina? What’s wrong?”

Owen noticed that I was acting strangely, and he staggered to his feet.

Originally, I should have told him not to overdo it, but I didn’t have the energy right now.

“The recovery magic isn’t working very well on Alvin-sama.”

As soon as I asked why, Owen’s pale complexion turned even worse. It was as if he had an idea of what was going on, and it made me feel uneasy.

But Owen just muttered, “I don’t know either,” and said nothing more.

That said, it didn’t seem to have any effect at all, so I desperately continued casting recovery magic.

“Please, heal….!”

As my vision blurred with anxiety and I questioned what was happening to Alvin-sama, I suddenly recalled an incident that happened a few months ago.

“This feeling…. It’s somewhat familiar….”

I remember the terrifyingly slow healing speed and the feeling as if something was interfering.

“I tried to cast recovery magic, but for some reason, the spell didn’t work as well as I’d hoped….”

“I see, he must have dabbled in forbidden magic.”

“…. Forbidden magic?”

“Yes. I think that’s why Nina’s magic wasn’t working as well as it should have.”

I had such a conversation with Owen when I was treating a man who had suddenly become injured at the magic tower.

──Forbidden magic was magic that was forbidden and involved considerable danger in exchange for gaining great power.

There was no way that Alvin-sama, who was the first prince and the best wizard in the country, would mess with forbidden magic.

He had the power and position to make anything possible.

It was just a coincidentally similar situation. There must be another cause for this situation.

Telling myself that, I desperately pushed through the unpleasant sensation with all of the magic power that I had. Even so.

“I was curious what it was that he wished for so badly that he risked his life by using the forbidden arts….”

“Nina doesn’t have one? Such a wish.”

“I have a lot of simple wishes that I wish this would happen, but I can’t think of anything that would be worth risking my life for…. Do you have one, Alvin-sama?”

“Me? I had one.”

“Had?”

“Yes. Because I’ve already achieved it.”

The conversation with Alvin-sama never left my mind.

Two hours later, I came to the hall where everyone was gathered.

“Nina, is Alvin okay now?”

“Yes. The visible wounds seem to have healed somehow.”

Although my magic and physical strength were considerably reduced, I was relieved that I was able to somewhat heal Alvin-sama’s wounds. He was still asleep in the medical room and remained unconscious.

Even though I managed to heal him this time, I was worried that if Alvin-sama was injured again, the healing magic wouldn’t work. After he woke up, I had to find the cause.

In the hall, there were Lara, Theo, Dirk, who had returned to the castle in a hurry, Owen, who was looking a little better, and Erica.

“Is Erica all right now?”

“Yes. I’ve calmed down, thank you.”

I sat down next to Erica and decided to ask her what had happened, along with everyone else.

“…. I was praying in the temple when suddenly that man came and attacked me. Thanks to the escorts, I had time to call for help…. and soon Alvin-sama and Owen-san arrived there.”

There should be a considerable distance to the temple where Erica was. Considering that Alvin-sama was able to teleport with Owen in an instant, I realized once again that his magic power was incomparable.

“After that, the two of them continued to fight while protecting me. As far as I could see, that man’s magic power had more than doubled since the last time we saw him.”

“As expected. Alvin also said that man is clearly more powerful than last time. He’s definitely not human, so what the hell is he?”

“I’ve been doing some research and looking around, but I still can’t figure it out.”

The fact that he couldn’t be killed and his magic power had doubled in such a short period of time was just not right.

I thought it would be difficult to find out what he was if even Owen and Lara, who knew more about magic in this world than anyone else, didn’t know.

“…. I actually have an idea.”

At Erica’s words, everyone turned to look at her.

“The temple I was in is the place where the Saintess from five generations ago—Luna-sama used to be. Luna-sama was also called the Great Saintess, and it seems that she had the same eyes as mine…. I wanted to be like her, so I chose that place for my training.”

Luna-sama was the 10th Saintess.

She was strong, beautiful and compassionate, and her abilities as a saintess were said to be unparalleled in the past.

I used to hear people say that I was her reincarnation, and I had heard a lot of stories about her. However, I heard that she suddenly disappeared shortly after subjugating the Demon King at that time.

No one knew anything more than that.

“Actually, two days ago, I found a hidden door that had a mysterious glow in the temple…. and I found Luna-sama’s diary there.”

“What?”

“I know it’s not a good idea to read people’s diaries, but I decided to read a little bit of it to see if there was anything in it that could give me some insight about holy magic.”

Erica paused for a moment, then continued.

“Luna-sama was a transmigrator from Japan, just like myself and Nina-san, and a player in Adolescence of Swords and Magic.”
