My First Time in a Different World 5

“Hey, Dirk, this summoning spell….”

“I’m sorry, I’m not good at that sort of thing.”

As we rode in the carriage, I asked Dirk, magic book in hand. However, since he specialized in offensive magic, it seemed that he wasn’t good at it, so Dirk said I should ask Owen.

“Why don’t you ask me?”

“Theo, do you know?”

“No way. Not at all.”

“….”

Theo, Dirk, and I were traveling together today, and the other three were in the carriage in front of us.

Not wanting to waste any time, I immersed myself in the book I had bought at the bookstore in the previous town.

“Let me see…. Eh, Nina, you’ve already progressed to such difficult magic?  It looks like another language to me.”

“This is just in case I need it. But I don’t understand this at all.”

Four months had already passed since I came to this world.

Thanks to the fact that I continued to make efforts without missing a single day and the guidance of Dirk and the people around me, my stats had risen considerably.

In order to defeat the final boss, the Demon King, I needed to raise all my stats to level 80. And now I had risen to an average of about 60.

It looked as if I went up all at once, but from this point on, I had to work harder than ever because I needed a lot of EXP every time I raise one level.

“…. If it was a game, there would be an auto button.”

Right now, I just had to raise my level until the time limit for subjugating the Demon King. I had four more events to complete, and I had to make sure that I got a lot of EXP from them.

There were various events, such as defeating an ancient dragon and saving a village from a plague epidemic, but the scary part was that you never knew when these things would happen.

One of these events, which was a mass outbreak of slime, occurred last week, but the timing was obviously delayed than in the game.

I was reminded once again that everything wasn’t the same as in the game.

“Nina’s doing so well, it’s great.”

“Yeah.”

“Thanks. I’m still working hard!”

Later, after arriving in town and dropping off my luggage in my room at the inn, I headed straight to Owen.

“Owen, can you tell me more about this?”

“Of course. Which one?”

Owen quickly skimmed through the pages of the book I pointed to and muttered, “Ah,” and smiled dazzlingly.

He then closed the book with a bang for some reason and squeezed it in my hand.

“This is Lara’s area of expertise, so you’ll have to ask her.”

“Huh? No, but… I don’t really think she will tell me…”

I didn’t think she would bother to teach me magic if she didn’t even welcome me.

Even Owen should know about the relationship between me and Lara, so I was confused by his suggestion.

“It’s going to be okay. Trust me.”

“…. O-Okay then.”

Still, I knew that Owen would never lie to embarrass me.

I nodded in agreement, and he patted me on the head with his large hand.

“Nina is really cute and honest. You’re the only one who believes in me this much.”

“Because Owen is a kind person.”

“I’m glad to hear that. I’m rooting for you to get along with everyone.”

“Yes, thank you!”

Thinking that somehow Owen might be the kindest person to me, I thanked him and headed to Lara’s place.

I visited her room, but she seemed to be away, so I walked around the inn looking for her and found her having tea in what looked like a café space.

There was something strangely powerful about a beautiful woman, and when I remembered the neglect from her so far, I stopped dead in my tracks.

But I trusted Owen, so I took a deep breath, clenched my hands, and opened my mouth.

“Um, Lara-san.”

“…. What is it?”

Lara immediately turned around and, as soon as she caught me in her field of vision, she narrowed her light violet eyes and made a clearly displeased face.

Still, I smiled and stood in front of her.

“Um, can you tell me about this magic?”

“Ha?”

I opened the book to the page in question and held it out to her, and Lara looked at me as if she were looking at an alien.

Feeling my heart beating fast with tension, I looked up fearfully and could clearly see that Lara was getting irritated.

“Aren’t you asking the wrong person?”

Thinking it was a natural reaction, I muttered, “Owen told me that’s your specialty, Lara-san…” and she looked down at the pages of the book, her long eyelashes downcast.

Then, her big eyes widened in surprise.
