Chapter - 2 || I Thought I Was Doing The Best I Could

Prince Alexander looked out of sorts.

"'Are you sure?"

"'As you wish."

"So you admit what you've done?"

Alexander-sama said something that made me want to change my mind.

He is a strange person.

I looked at him straight in the eyes and replied,

"No matter what I say, Your Majesty seems to have made up your mind."

Alexander-sama looked disappointed because I was acting as usual.

Did he want me to cry?

No, of course not.

If crying and begging would have changed anything, I would have done it.

This is probably the reason why Prince Alexander blames me for saying that I am not cute.

I said this so that my father and mother, but not Alexander, could hear me.

"But I will tell you this; the lilies I have grown were the Maiden Lilies."

"You're disgusting!"

Alexander shouted.

"I'm sorry. But it is true."

I don't believe that Natalia could have grown lilies that require such careful temperature control and fertilizer blending.

But there is no proof.

Let's leave it at that.

That is the least I can do.

"As you know, if the Maiden Lily is grown by someone other than a saint, it will have yellow petals. However, when grown by a saint, it becomes a unique flower with pure white petals and blue pollens

—When the 'Ritual Of The Saint' approached, the candidates would take the seedlings from the temple and grow them."

"The other day I finally succeeded in opening the buds, and Prince Alexander and the temple confirmed it."

"Yes, that's why we, the priests, thought that Elvira was a saint at first. However, upon closer examination, we discovered that Lady Elvira's lilies were ordinary white lilies that had been colored. You should be ashamed!"

The High Priestess yelled at me, and so did Prince Alexander.

"Yes, you fake saint! How dare you try to deceive me!"

"I didn't mean to."

"Shut up! I was engaged to you because I thought you were the closest thing to a saint, but I have no use for a fake saint!"

No matter what I tried to say, Prince Alexander would not listen.

Finally, he exclaimed,

"I hereby declare that I am breaking my engagement to Elvira and becoming engaged to the rightful saint, Natalia!"

I let out a small sigh.

I guess that was the plan all along.

From Prince Alexander and the temple.

As a candidate for the saint and as a duchess, I was to become the future queen.

From the age of thirteen, I have devoted myself to the rigorous training and studies.

It is true that there is no love between me and Prince Alexander, but I thought I was doing the best I could.

"Dear Alexander...! Natalia is very impressed..."

I took a glance at Natalia, who was standing next to me, her eyes watering.

She was a fluffy strawberry blonde with a voluptuous body. There was slight lisp in her speech. She also had large eyes.

I am the complete opposite of her, with straight platinum blonde hair with intelligent eyes.

I had heard that the baroness, Lady Natalia, and Prince Alexander had met at a masquerade ball a few months ago and had become involved in a male-female relationship.

But I was going to think that it was just an amusement for Prince Alexander, who was preparing for her coronation after His Majesty's death.

I thought that since I was the one who was going to be the saint and the Empress, it was only natural that I should have at least one queen on my side.

I explained myself that I shouldn't worry about these small things.

I told myself.

And now that Prince Alexander's coronation was over, all I had to do was wait for my certification as a saint and then hold the wedding ceremony.

I never thought this would happen.

At the very least, let's straighten up, look ahead, and leave.

I had to accept it.

"—But it is true that Elvira has been serving her country for a long time."

Prince Alexander said this.

I have a unsettling feeling about this.

"For that reason, Elvira will be allowed to continue living in the royal palace."

Then he looked at Natalia with an affectionate gaze and spoke,

"She will become the assistant of Saint Natalia, and shall serve the country as a citizen..."

"I refuse."

I'm not kidding.

I hope you'll forgive me for being a bit selfish.
