Possession (10)

At first, I thought about stopping them, but it was weirder for me to intervene and say something along the lines of, “Don’t fight because of me!”. Enduring the embarrassment, I nodded as if I were sympathetic to Seowoo.

Hamin’s face noticeably wrinkled, perhaps because he saw me. He seemed to be a good judge of useless things.

“Move, Yoo Seowoo.”

Finally, a low voice came out of Hamin’s mouth, unlike before. Although Hamin, who growled, might falter, Yoo Seowoo’s smile never broke. It seemed to be one of the Four Great Heavenly King’s passive skills.

“I don’t know what you’re planning to do, so get out of the way.”

“I’m here to get a partner.”

“That’s right, he’s my partner.”

I mean, I didn’t even want to be his partner.

No matter who won the war between the two, I had no intention of partnering with the Four Great Heavenly Kings. I’m sure they’ve been together since middle school, so what’s the point of fighting each other and then partnering with each other eventually?

Why do they hate each other in the first place? Aren’t they the Four Great Heavenly Kings?

No, they didn’t hate each other but did Seowoo unusually touch Hamin’s nerves?

I inferred the relationship between the two based on the conversation I just heard. It seemed plausible, so I looked around. Thanks to the two of them, eyes that had been on me were on them.

I looked at the situation, thinking it was the best time to get out, when suddenly…

“Why don’t we just ask Sihyun to choose?”

My expression crumpled as an innocent voice piped up.

“Why are you meddling again?”

Hamin frowned at Haewoon, who had been sitting by the sidelines until now. At that, the silver-haired boy turned his head to me and waved.

“Hi!”

“…”

I looked at Hamin after the greeting. It wasn’t enough that it ruined my attempt to escape so I couldn’t be happy with the person who highlighted my presence. I went silent. It was impossible to spit at his smiling face, but it was also not the situation to smile at him either.

Despite my silence, Haewoon tilted his head and smiled. It didn’t seem like the kind of greeting where he expected a response.

“I’m Kang Haewoon and this is Baek Geonwoo! It looked fun so we wanted to come. Do you want to say hi?”

Haewoon smiled at the male student behind him. I glanced at him for a moment, our blue eyes meeting. The shades of blue between the two eyes had different saturation. If mine looked like a diluted pale water, then Baek Geonwoo’s was just as vivid and bright as his azure hair.

I took my eyes off him. When I turned my head, regretting what I had seen, my eyes flickered, vaguely seeing a faint image.

It was an image of an indifferent and cold cat. My eyes flickered again, rubbing the nape of my neck shyly at the sudden vision, before turning my head to Haewoon. He didn’t even look at Geonwoo once.

“You’re Sihyun, right…?”

“Yes.”

I was thinking about whether to answer or not, but when I answered, thinking it would be similar to how Yoo Seowoo acted around me, Haewoon stepped forward. Hesitant, I moved back. There was a sense of ominousness.

“My family name is Kang. You’re Kang, too.”

“…Huh?”

I gave him a weird look at the nonsense overshadowed by my nervousness. Laughing, Haewoon covered his mouth and burst into laughter. Only then did I realize that he was supposed to be the cute one among the Four Great Heavenly Kings. Maybe I should draw a ‘>ㅁ<’ emoticon next to his smile.

“So who do you want to partner with?”

The topic of conversation that flowed into the mountains and the seas returned to the main topic. I looked around and breathed in, with Seowoo and Hamin looking at me. If it was an incident that ended with my words, the argument between the two would have already ended.

“What are you worried about? Dual-classes and prosecutors are on the same level.”

“I can do well, Sihyun.”

Why are you doing this to me?

This isn’t some kind of partner 1v1. I was stunned by the Four Great Heavenly Kings, who began to appeal to me. All of this happened because Haewoon innocently ruined my escape plan.

How can all of them be so useless?

Haewoon smiled at my annoyed state.

“Of course, I don’t have a partner yet either.”

“Hey.”

“Haewoon?”

Why are you doing this to me?

It was the wrong thing to look at. Maybe he misunderstood what I was looking at because he was dissatisfied with my gaze. But now, even Geonwoo, who was next to me, wanted to be my partner.

“Of course, Geonwoo is fine!”

What is happening?

Hamin and Seowoo started talking nonsense about partner candidates and arguing who was first. Meanwhile, I looked at the Four Great Heavenly Kings dryly.

“Why are you suddenly interfering?”

“Hahaha, it looks fun~”

“My head hurts.”

As I watched the three of them banter, it was then when I noticed that those three were close friends. Even though Hamin was holding onto Haewoon’s collar and Seowoo was face-palming, I took a step back and wondered if it would be okay to run away now, who seemed to be immersed in their own world.

Instantly, a single step backwards caused the crowd to split. I felt like Moses at that moment.

“Oh, he’s running away!”

Damn it.

Perhaps the splitting crowd caught their attention, and Haewoon, who was grabbed by Hamin, shouted. Hamin and Seowoo’s eyes focused on me. In the end, even my second attempt to escape had failed.

“You have to make a choice, Sihyun.”

“Why are you dragging it out?”

“Who do you want to be with?”

As those words spilled out, it made me want to run away even more. When I turned my head quickly and looked around, Dawoon came into view. I didn’t want to, but I opened my mouth to ask for help. That kind of hell would be better than this kind of hell…

Dawoon laughed, as if she was saying that I was doing well. I clenched my teeth and looked around. It felt like I was looking at King Yeomra* standing at the top of hell. I didn’t know anyone except Dawoon, but I thought anyone would be better than those four.

T/N: King Yeomra is the Korean god of the dead.

I rolled my eyes. At one point, a black-haired boy with blue eyes met my guys. I wondered why I hadn’t seen him before.

Unlike his tall height, he looked lean with shaggy black hair covering his eyes. He also wore thick glasses. While he looked a bit anxious, compared to the Four Great Heavenly Kings, he was better.

The boy, who had one ring in his hand and stared at the remaining one, probably didn’t have a partner. In this situation, it felt like I had discovered wild ginseng as bells of joy rang in my head.

What do you call this?

Ah, yes.

Eureka.
