Chapter 12: Cooperate with Me in Acting

Returning to the market, it was already close to three in the afternoon.

Old Jiang and Zhe Yu were nowhere to be found.

Bai Caoshi’s heart was filled with anxiety as she looked around the market. The crowd was still very large. She saw the ox cart along with the Young Master on it.

The lotus leaf umbrella was no longer useful. It lay listlessly on the carriage. Around Zhe Yu were all kinds of earthen bowls and pots. Yesterday, when they drank bamboo, there was no bowl for chicken soup after it was filled with bamboo juice. So, was Zhe Yu subsidizing the family? There was also a large piece of pork belly and some large bones in one of the pots. He handed over a small box of pastries. “Fleur cake. This is for you.”

Bai Caoshi knew that he had no money on him. Where did these things come from? She was not pretentious and took them with a smile. She even joked, “Did you rob the market?”

Without waiting for Zhe Yu’s reply, Little Jiang burst out laughing. “Oh, Bai Caoshi, your husband is also a powerful character! Down the entire street, the boss of a mini-game stall begged him to leave quickly. The boss who conjured gave him copper coins, and even the auntie who sells hibiscus cakes gave him snacks.”

Look, this was the aura of a protagonist. It was domineering and charming.

Bai Caoshi smiled and sat on the ox cart. “This is my husband!”

It was filled with pride.

Bai Xiaoshu, who had no presence at all, why didn’t anyone praise him?

A pastry was handed to him, from her sister’s conscience. After all, the two of them had been running around and hadn’t eaten yet.

“Thank you, Sis.” The voice was especially happy and crisp.

“Thank you… Thank you, brother-in-law.”

“Eat!” Zhe Yu noticed that she always cared about others first, so he spoke coldly.

Bai Caoshi pursed her lips and sniffed with her little nose. She couldn’t stop smiling. “It smells so good!”

Life was all about tea, rice, and cake. She was not stingy with her praises and everyone’s efforts.

“Here.” She took out two pieces, one each for the couple.

Zhe Yu took the pastry and took a small bite. It was sweet.

“Uncle Jiang, go to the medical center in the west of town.”

Purchasing daily necessities was the last priority. After eating the hibiscus cake, Bai Caoshi put away the rest and whispered to Zhe Yu, “Guess how much I sold them for?”

Zhe Yu stretched out five fingers.

Bai Caoshi naturally broke off two of his fingers. “It’s also very impressive, isn’t it? Thanks to the benefactor.”

Thirty taels were enough for this remote town.

Zhe Yu twisted his fingertips and nodded.

Whether it was a new era or this backward ancient era, medical resources were always the scarcest.

When they arrived at the only medical center in town, they found that the queue was very long, about ten meters long.

In front was the pharmacy. There were shop assistants weighing medicine. The medicine cabinet was sorted and labeled. The door curtain was lowered, and there was a small space behind it for consultation.

After settling down Zhe Yu, and preparing a stool and water bag for him, Bai Caoshi went to line up.

The queue moved very slowly. The consultation was a meticulous process.

More than an hour later, it was time for Bai Caoshi.

A commotion broke out from the back of the crowd. Bao Caoshi looked in the direction of the sound and saw two guards dressed in black with dark patterns dismounting from their horses with a pawn trotting over.

It was the wave she had seen in the morning—from Yanjing.

“Doctor Lu, come with us.” The guard who spoke was loud and energetic.

How could the patients who were queuing up be willing? They muttered, “Why aren’t you queuing up? Everyone has been waiting for so long.”

The guard raised his thick eyebrows and placed his hand on the saber at his waist. He raised his finger and said, “If we delay the Lord’s illness, will you be able to bear the consequences? Be careful not to lose your lives!”l

The old man sighed, and the child cried. The people suppressed their anger and did not dare to say anything.

Doctor Lu had already come out from behind the curtain with the medicine box. He shook his head helplessly and was forcefully taken away.

The manager suppressed the crowd. “I’m sorry, everyone. The doctor is not around. Please come back tomorrow.”

The crowd scattered like birds and beasts. Zhe Yu lowered his eyes and got up, but was suppressed by Bai Caoshi. “I’ll go discuss it with them. Xiaoshu, take good care of your brother-in-law.”

As she spoke, she approached the manager and lowered her voice. “Master, let’s talk in private.”

“I can’t do anything without the doctor.” The manager looked at the young lady and shrugged. The patient’s mood was understandable, but there was nothing he could do.

However, Bai Caoshi did not care. She went behind the curtain first. Seeing that someone was trespassing, how could the manager tolerate it? He chased after her. The little girl opened her white palm with a piece of silver on it. “Shopkeeper, please cooperate with me to put on a show.”
