General store arson case, blue knight division investigation begins

The newspaper article reported an arson incident that took place in a store.

While the main content was the citizens frightened at the still wandering culprit, what caught my attention was the mention of the Blue Knights who were tasked with investigating the matter.

It was interesting to learn that in this world, the title of ‘knight’ was also associated with the role of an investigator.

‘Does that mean that knights would be after me by now?’

Russell Bolev was a duke, and the title held a high-ranking status in this world. Since such a person had been murdered, they must have started an investigation by now.

I nervously flipped through the newspaper, unable to find any news of the incident. In addition to this, there was no article searching for an individual with a similar appearance to me.

‘They’re keeping it undercover.’

The death was not a result of natural cause, but rather a murder that occurred within the Duke’s residence. They must have believed that publicizing the news in a newspaper accessible to the commoners would harm the Duke’s reputation.

“Huu…”

A sigh of relief left my mouth. At least there was no risk of me being chased by an unspecified majority.

‘Then the only thing I need to be cautious of is the knights.’

After checking the newspaper once more, I stood from my seat.

I had a task at hand. Unless I would rather wait for a stroke of luck to return me to my original world.

To find my real body and return to my original world, gathering information was crucial.

I have to keep moving diligently to avoid getting lost in unproductive thoughts.

Upon leaving the inn, I made my way to the bustling shopping district. All the stalls that had been closed last night were now brimming with life.

My first stop was the weapon store, where I purchased a scabbard that fit my dagger perfectly, and attached it to my calf for easy access.

After familiarizing myself with the area, I made my to the central plaza, hoping to gather information from the diverse population. As I sat on a bench beside a large fountain situated in the middle of the area, I couldn’t help but feel exhausted, despite only having walked around for a short amount of time.

‘As expected, I need to gain weight quickly.’

When clenched into fists, my bony hands did not appear threatening, but rather comical.

‘Can I go back? To my original world, to my original body.’

As soon as I came to a halt, my mind was flooded with useless thoughts.

No one in this world could help me. Whether I was truly a murderer or not, no one would risk approaching me.

I had to go through everything alone in an unfamiliar place, with a body that wasn’t mine.

‘My only hope is…’

It was the voice that led me through the secret passage. The voice that seemed to have all the answers may also know a way to get me out of this world.

It was unfortunate I had to rely on an unknown specimen, but the bigger issue was its abrupt disappearance.

After leaving the Duke of Bolev’s residence and spending the night at the inn, I couldn’t hear it at all. As if I had been hallucinating.

‘Why do I have to be put in such extreme circumstances? It’s not like I committed the murder.’

I snorted at the thought when I heard a sudden commotion.

The cause of the loud disruption was a group of people striding in unison. Those who were enjoying their leisure time in the area turned their attention toward the crowd and whispered among themselves. It seemed like they were more in awe than being critical.

My gaze was also drawn towards the spectacle. The group of people were dressed uniformly in white and carried swords at their waists, with long blue cloaks draped over their shoulders.

“Ah…”

I noticed a man who stood out from the crowd due to his height. Even if he were the shortest person there, he would still have been noticeable. He had a strikingly beautiful face and an unusual aura.

His skin was pale and his hair appeared to be a mix of gray and blue, which gave him a unique display. The man appeared like a mirage as if he would disappear at any moment, yet he also seemed overall solid and firm.

If you were to sculpt a person out of ice, wouldn’t it be similar to this? His surrounding temperature appeared to drop. Even the white and blue uniforms seemed to be modeled after his icy feel, creating a harmonious ensemble. It was as if every aspect of him was carefully crafted, nothing being superfluous.

The man’s gaze turned towards me. The moment his translucent blue eyes brushed past me-

[Amon Spencer’s cold gaze passed Julia Reitz.]

The voice I hadn’t heard in a while rang in my head.

‘…Amon Spencer?’

It was a familiar name. I remembered reading it in the newspaper this morning. He was said to be the leader of the Knights who were solving the arson incident that occurred a few days ago.

‘That knight!’

My body stiffened. It was only then that I discerned the wolf engraved on Amon’s blue cloak.

According to the information I read in the newspaper, there were three different affiliations of knights. The Dark Knights, the Red Knights, and the Blue Knights.

The Dark Knights were responsible for resolving incidents within the palace and escorting the royal family, the Red Knights for diplomatic affairs, and the Blue Knights for investigating incidents and accidents among the people.

The blue cloak and white wolf were symbols of the Blue Knights. Amon Spencer was the leader of this affiliation.

In short, it meant that he was likely to be the person responsible for the current investigation into the murder case of Russell Bolev.

Luckily, Amon did not show much interest in me. He quickly scanned the square and continued on his way.

‘Have you not found any clues leading to me yet?’

I held my breath as Amon and his party moved away, and then I heard the voice once more.

[Julia had to hold onto Amon Spencer.]

‘Hold onto him?’

It was clear that Amon was connected to my case somehow. As soon as our eyes met, I heard the voice again. However, I couldn’t determine whether this connection was beneficial or detrimental to me.

‘Looking at his lack of reaction after our eyes met, I don’t think we knew each other.’

I was happy to hear the voice again, but the message conveyed through its words posed a challenge.

Are you telling me to walk to my pursuer with my own two feet? That I’m the culprit, so I should confess?

I had no memory of Julia before being possessed. I didn’t know what occurred in the past, or how this body had invaded the Bolev residence. I wasn’t aware of any evidence that could’ve been left behind.

[What Julia Reitz sought for could only be fulfilled by Amon Spencer.]

The voice rang once again as if prompting me to take action. I glanced anxiously at Amon. The voice was the one to inform me of the secret passage at the time. Perhaps Amon was a lead.

‘Moreover, he’s the only person who would listen to me.’

I cautiously stood from the bench after the knights had almost left the square. Then I followed behind, keeping my distance. For now, I intended to carry out the voice’s instructions to the best of my abilities.

‘If there’s any possibility of danger, I’m leaving asap.’

Upon leaving the shopping district, they walked down the main road and reached a grand building. The gray stone walls resembled the appearance of a temple, castle, or well-built university. The knights proceeded to enter the establishment.

‘Is this the building where the knights reside?’

I stood at the corner of the street and glazed over the structure. The soldiers guarding the gate saluted as they detected Amon and his comrades. It wasn’t just the gate. Soldiers stood guard all around the building.

‘I can’t follow them inside. I should head back to the inn…’

The voice rang again, perhaps aware of my troubled heart.

[Julia strode toward the Knight’s establishment. Entering through the front door was no issue for her.]

‘What?’
