Happy Worries (2)

Woom! WOOM!

Jun-young woke up to the sound of a series of text notifications on his smartphone.

Yesterday, he’d fallen asleep after celebrating with his family in the evening, only to be woken up at midnight by the daily mission renewal notification and rushed off to catch 100 bloodsuckers.

Then he went back to sleep, and now he’s awake again.

‘I slept well.’

I’m definitely feeling more energised every time I wake up.

Normally I would need to sleep for much longer, and if I wake up unexpectedly like this, tiredness and irritability tend to rush in.

But now I feel very refreshed.

‘My body is in great shape, so this is why they are called Awakened ones.’

Junyoung then checked the text messages on his smartphone with a hearty smile.

‘What is this?’

Why did I get so much money out of nowhere?

There’s 1.8 million won in the account that should only have 10,000 won, or 10,043 won to be precise.

After a moment of confusion, Jun-young remembers what the head of Hunter Management, Kwak Sang-woo, said last night.

‘They said that the money would be deposited today, but to think that it came this early in the morning?’

It is true that government employees are slow, but that’s not the case in the Hunter department.

‘Really.’

Checking the email that came during the night,A Statement was attached.

F-class hunter government subsidy of 1 million won.

And 800,000 won is the pay for the gate duty at the Children’s Park mission yesterday.

‘Even for an F-class, they pay 800,000 won as a daily wage?’

Jun-young was surprised.

I already knew that the state subsidy is 1 million won per month, so I’m not surprised about that.

‘I heard that F-class hunters usually receive around 300,000 won as a daily wage for cooperating in gate duties managed by local governments.’

It’s not a fixed amount, but that’s the average.

That’s what I found out through an internet search.

But there’s another $500,000 in the bank.

‘Yesterday, they apologised and said they would give me an additional risk amount so that seems to be the case.’

A smile appeared on Jun-young’s face.

‘I didn’t really feel like I was a hunter, but now that the money is coming in, I can feel it.’

‘I can finally earn money like everyone else’

For Jun-young, who has always been unemployed and at home due to his low physical strength, this is a great feeling.

<‘Honey, do you think Jun-young will be able to live independently? With his physique, he won’t be able to find a job, and I’m worried whether he’ll be able to get married in the future——.’〉

<‘Still, let’s hope! He’ll make his own way in life somehow, and if not, we’ll just have to take care of him for the rest of our lives—-‘〉

A few years ago, I overheard a conversation between my parents.

Though he pretended like he didn’t hear anything, it was something Jun-young never forgot.

A child who can’t stand on his own feet and needs to be taken care of by his parents for the rest of his life.

That was Jun-young.

Even though he already knew that, the fact that he was such a burden to his parents made him feel very sad.

He wanted to deny it, but it was an unavoidable reality.

‘But not anymore.’

While he used to be a source of worry and burden in the household, from now on, he will become a confident individual who can live independently.

“What should I buy for them?”

Now that I’ve got something like my first salary, I’m thinking about buying gifts for my parents and siblings.

‘What should I buy for them? That’s a tough decision.’

Of course, it’s a happy worry.

Just yesterday morning, Junyoung, who was unemployed, couldn’t have imagined that he would be contemplating what gifts to buy for his family in just one day.

‘I’ll think about it slowly. For now, I need to get ready to go to the ward office.’

* * *

“Welcome, Hunter Kang Jun-young!”

It’s 9am.

Jun-young arrives at the Hunter Management Department at the ward office, and Ahn So-young greets him with a bright smile.

She emphasises the word ‘Hunter’ as if she wants everyone to hear, i didn’t feel bad about it.

“Please come this way. The chief is waiting for you.”

“Okay.”

As he enters the back office, he sees Kwak Sang-woo.

“Welcome, Mr. Kang Junyoung. I have been waiting for you. Please have a seat over here.”

He’s got a friendly smile on his face, but he looks pretty tired, so he must have spent the night here.

It’s understandable though, given the chaos at the Children’s Grand Park gate yesterday.

Although civil servants are synonymous with clocking in and clocking out, this does not seem to be the case with the Hunter Management Division.

“First of all, as promised yesterday, the national subsidy and gate mission rewards were deposited this morning.”

“Yes, I saw that, thank you for the quick processing.”

“There is no need for that, it’s the least I can do. Oh, and by the way, Hunters are entitled to a number of benefits beyond the state subsidy under the Hunter Special Act. For example, the purchase of a car with engine capacity of 3,000cc or less, or an electric vehicle, the taxes are completely exempted. There are also some subsidies for petrol and charging costs, and they are given priority in housing applications. There are many other benefits, Ms Ahn will provide you with more details.”

So there are such things.

I hadn’t realised that there were additional benefits.

‘It’s amazing.’

It’s not for nothing that being a Hunter, even an F rank one, is considered better than winning the lottery.

“I see. But first, I’d like to know why you wanted to see me.”

“Yes. Of course, there’s something I need your assistance with, Hunter Kang Jun-young.”

“What is it?”

“I’ll be honest with you. Have you ever heard of a cerebral bloodsucker?”

* * *

A few moments later, Jun-young got into Yoo Jong-soo’s SUV and headed for the Children’s Grand Park gate.

To be honest, I don’t know much about this bug called cerebral bloodsucker.

I know that it has caused quite a lot of problems in China and Japan, but nothing serious has happened in Korea.

“I didn’t expect you to accept this mission so readily, Kang Jun-young. Most Awakened are happy to be Hunters, but after seeing the monsters, they’re often too scared to come near the gate for a while.”

Yoo Jong-soo said from the driver’s seat while glancing at Jun-young who was in the passenger seat.

Then he made a bewildered face.

“What are you doing, are you sleeping?’

It only took about 10 seconds to start the car and pull out of the ward office parking lot.

At that time, Jun-young had fallen into a deep sleep.

‘Wow, he did that last time too, does he have the ability to sleep in a car?’

The more I look at him, the more I realise that he’s an unusual person.

Even when he was told that the mission was to get inside the gate of the Children’s Grand Park, which had just evolved to Level 6, he didn’t hesitate to accept.

‘Normally, you wouldn’t even want to be anywhere near the gate after seeing that.’

That’s a pretty nonchalant response for someone who had only just become a F-Rank Hunter and witnessed the horrific death of 10 people at the hands of a 2-star vampire.

He doesn’t even seem to be nervous at all, as he immediately fell asleep as soon as he got into the car.

‘I’ve heard a lot of stories about people having gone through something bad and having a strong heart, but this guy is no slouch’.

Yoo Jong-soo stepped on the accelerator without waking Jun-young.

‘Well, I’m glad that you’re okay, I don’t know about anything else, but I do know that you’re good at killing mosquitoes.’

As such, he recognised Jun-young as the ultimate expert in the field.

“‘We’re here, Mr Kang. Please wake up.”

“I’m already awake.”

Just before parking the car in the parking lot outside the west gate.Jun-young naturally opened his eyes and got up.

‘As expected, I feel better after sleeping.’

He still hasn’t got the physique of a normal person, so he needs to rest at every chance he gets to recover his strength.

Since becoming an awakener, even a little bit of sleep is enough for a complete recovery. It truly feels like I am in a whole new world.

“We need to get inside the gate over there! Put on your helmet and follow me.”

“Yes.”

I’ve already changed into a special protective suit at the ward office before getting in the car,so there’s no need to uncomfortably change clothes inside the car.

I put on my helmet and follow Yoo Jong-soo to a place where the lights are swirling like a storm.

The west gate of Children’s Grand Park.

In front of it, I see a familiar woman.

It’s C rank Hunter Park Yura.

“Welcome, Jun-young Kang, I’ve been waiting for you.”

She smiled when she saw Jun-young.

“The other team members have already gone inside, so you can follow me.”

“This is my first time at the gate, so please take care of me.”

” I should be the one asking you for a favour. Can I ask for a mana mosquito net?”

“Sure.”

Buffs are essential before entering the gate.

Immediately, JunYoung gave Park Yura a 2-stack Mana Mosquito Net buff.

Her face lit up as she was surrounded by mana mosquito nets that lasted for 80 minutes.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Do you want me to spread it out for you, team leader?”

“No, I will be waiting outside, so it’s okay.”

Yoo Jong-soo is the head of the gate management team, so he has to wait outside and send additional support teams in case of an emergency.

“Then we’ll go inside, Team Leader Yoo.”

“Please be careful, Mr Kang.”

“Yes.”

Immediately, Jun-young followed Park Yura into the storm of light.

* * *

“Switch on your headlamp. It’s on the right side of your helmet.”

“Yes.”

As they stepped through the gate, a dark cave came into view.

They had to use the head lantern attached to their helmets to see properly.

“But where are the others?”

“They’re probably halfway down the cave.”

“Have you cleared the gate halfway already?”

“Yes. Even though this place has evolved to Grade 6, it hasn’t changed much from its Grade 7 structure, so it’s easy to get through, but we’re on high alert because it seems to be infested with a variant of the bloodsuckers, the cerebral bloodsuckers.”

“I see.”

Jun-young nodded.

He had already heard this from Kwak Sang-woo.

“Well, was Kang Junyoung fearless from the beginning?”

“Not really, I’m a bit scared.”

“I don’t think you are scared at all, you look so nonchalant for someone who entered the gate for the first time.”

“It’s just the way I look. It doesn’t make sense to not be scared when you don’t know when monsters are going to jump out at you.”

He was being serious.

Jun-young is walking cautiously, looking everywhere, especially since there could be non-vampire monsters like the ironclad centipede.

“Don’t worry, Hye-na Kwak and the rest of the team are ahead of us and have killed most of the dangerous monsters.”

“I’m glad to hear that.”

“Still, there might be some slimes or goblins hiding in the corners, so I’m holding my Specialised Trident.”

“I see.”

The special protective suit I received today also has an adjustable trident attached to it.

It looks like it’s made of a special alloy, so it’s lightweight but very sturdy.

“It can deliver a strong blow with little force. Of course, it’s for the Awakened, but even with the full strength of an adult, it can easily crush an orc’s head. And if you press here, it can deliver an electric shock.”

Park Yura pressed the button at the bottom of the trident’s handle.

Instantly, the tip of the trident flashed a strong blue light.

“It’s a pretty good weapon.”

“It’s Not bad for killing small monsters. However, you can see that it is almost ineffective against monsters of medium size or higher, especially star monsters.”

Oh.

However, for Junyoung, who doesn’t have any offensive ability other than his Agile Hands, it’s a good weapon.

“Look at that.”

Park Yura pointed to the remains of a giant tree monster lying nearby, shattered and dried up like an old tree.

“That’s the carcass of the 2-star vampire that Hye-na Kwak took down, the demonic creature that ate 10 people outside the gate.”

Instantly, Jun-young recognised the vampire’s identity.

‘It must be the one that fought against me and ran away.’

The image of him sucking people’s blood and then crushing and chewing on their shrunken bodies came back to him.

A horrific scene I don’t want to relive.

“But?”

Junyoung’s eyes lit up as he stared at the remains of the vampire’s corpse.

“Wait, he’s not dead, he’s alive.”

“What? What do you mean by that?”

Park Yura was perplexed.

There was no sign of life anywhere on the shattered corpse of the vampire.

Then she spotted a piece of the corpse moving.

Upon closer inspection, she realised that they were thumb-sized bugs.

“They’re moving.”

It was hard to see in the darkness, but there were more than a dozen of the strange bugs crawling on the floor.

Black bodies with red eyes.

“Ouch! What is that?”

It’s a dangerous type of bloodsucker.

“Avoid it! It’s a cerebral bloodsucker!”

Park Yura, who had identified the bug, shouted in panic.

But Joon-young smiled as if he had struck on gold.

“Why should I avoid it?”

“What?”

“They should be avoiding me, haha.”

Jun-young smirked at Park Yura, and then he began to crush the cerebral bloodsucker.

Thud, Thud, Thud!

‘Kaaaah!’

‘Kiaaah!’

There are dozens of those dangerous bloodsuckers.

I wonder how many levels I will get?

Park Yura looked at Junyoung with her eyes wide open.

‘Oh, my God!’
