Harry Potter And The Other Boy Who Lived

Chapter 16 - Not a small issue

"I'm really sorry professor. You are right, I am in no position to interfere in your class."

She looks at me with her stern eyes and says "It is good you understood. Your grandmother teached you okay. How far are you in the book?"

I scratch my head a little bit embarrased. "I have already finished the book, professor."

"What do you mean with you have finished the book? Are you saying you read it all once?"

Jesus, what a look, she is looking at me as if I'm saying the most absurd thing in the world. Those stern and serious eyes are trully scarying. I guess that by now I should do instead of talk. I start doing tranfiguring the match to a needle, then a needle to a nail... I go through all the chapters of the Transfiguration's book until I transform a snail to a teacup.

Professor McGonagall get up from the chair during my demonstration. Her stern looks turn into a one of shock.

"Neville, what did your grandmother maked you do? How long have you been practicing Transfiguration?"

"For almost 2 years professor, but it is not related to grandma. I've been studying the first year books since november of 1989, I guess. I finished all first years' content a month before coming to Hogwarts. On Transfiguration I studied 1/5 of the 'Intermediate Transfiguration' book. I've succeded doing a Draconifors Spell recently."

"What do you mean? Draconifors Spell, have you already succeded a Transfiguration turning objects into living beings? You should not have enough magic power to do that..."

"DRACONIFORS!" The teapot forms a small dragon that starts to roam around the classroom. Professor Minerva gets amazed, she must be thinking a million of things, maybe one of them is 'I have to talk to Dumbledore about this'. After reflecting a bit she starts to ask me about the content of the two books. I respond a question right then she asks another question. It goes for almost ten minutes, until she asks me, "What are your thoughts on the phrase 'Form a clear mental picture of the object you are using and an even more clear image of the object you are hoping to creat before attempting a Transfiguring spell'?"

I answer her everything I know and complement "To facilitate the visualization proccess I started to research about the molecular constitution of the object. I've been using some Muggle's books about biology and chemestry to do it better"

"Are you using muggles books to Transfiguration? I don't know what to say about this, Neville. You will have to bring those books to me..."

I interrupts her, open my wallet-closet and give the books to her. I open them and start to talk about the Muggle's study over these fields. After I finished she starts to explain to me that it is a very usefull way to facilitates in the visualization but it will be a burden if I go through this path now, as I would have to study all living things and objects. She starts to explain to me that the crux of Transfiguration lies in molding the blue cells. She starts to talk about how the blue cells can take any shape and how I should apply it to magic. She takes a book out of nowhere and gives me.

"It's a book about molding and reshaping blue cells, it has a lot of content somewhat related to the muggle's books you just showed to me, because as we advance our studies in the field we do must have a better understanding of the composition of the things we want to transfigure to. As you have already studied it to such degree of understanding I will give it to you. It is something I recomend to sixth year students that want to shine in the field of transfiguration. You will understand it better if you read the book, it will be better than to explain everything to you. Besides we don't have the time to do it too."

"Thanks Professor. I've been wondering about this difficulty for some time."

"But, beyond that, Neville, even if you have used this knowledge to facilitate and guide the blue cells in to transfiguring more easily, it still doesn't explain how a 11 years old boy can make a living object out of an inanimated one. Did you use something to enlarge your blue cells reserve? I know you are from a Sacred Family, but an auxiliary tool may hinder your future development..."

"I didn't use anything Professor. I think it is just related to practicing a lot. You can ask my grandmother about it if you wanted."

"I will have to talk to Dumbledore about it. It is not that I don't trust you, but it is not a small issue. For now I will give you some time to adjust your transfiguration spell proccess. We will talk about how your course in this discipline will go on from now with the Director too. You are clearly not suitted to your class, but you are too young to study among sixth years students, and you have not finished the Intermediate Transfiguration book yet ..."

"Sorry to trouble you Professor."

"Do not get worried about it. I and Dumbledore will know what to do. Now, you are late for the Charms class. I will make a note for you. Deliver to Flitwick, but go straight to class from here!"

"No problem Professor! I will! Thank you very much for your guidance!"

She writes me the note and I sprint to Flitwicks's classroom. I'm already 30 minutes late. Most students are trying to perform the 'Lumus' spell, technically known as 'Wand-Lightning Charm'. I interrupts the class and everybody turns their heads to me, causing some accidents in the class. Professor Flitwick's get a little angry, he is about to kick me out from the classroom when I give him the Professor McGonagall's note and apologize myself.

He reads the note and I guess he does something to verify its legitimacy, then order me to sit. Hermione kept a place for me, so I sit by her side.

Charms are more easy than Transfiguration, at least for me until now. Different from Transfiguration, a charm adds a properties to an object or creature. It can give light, flight, movement, intent, and ETC. The words in the Charms course are way more important, because it has something to do with the creation of the spell. The visualization don't occur easily without spelling the words correctly. I guess that is the reason why it is easier than Transfiguration, the sylables also work as a catalyst in Charms, in addition to the wand. In contrast, in transfiguration I can feel my voiceless incantation is a lot more powerful and easy to do, even though I'm far away from mastering both by now.

As Charms are more easy to do, I'm not the only one who can do the 'Lumus' spell right. I look around and a lot of students are succeding to do the spell, but you can notice the difference in the potency, the clarity and the constancy of the light. I decide to practice too, "Lumus!" . My wand 'light up'. It is more bright and clear than the rest and it doesn't even twinkle.

Professor Flitwick was helping a Ravenclaw student but when I do the spell he looks to me. "Very good control. Everyone should look at Mr. Longbottom's Wand. I guess I will make you all come 30 minutes later if it would make you produce such great results! Hahahaha. 10 points for Gryffindor."

The class goes on and when it ends I once again stay behind.

"I'm very sorry for my tardiness, Professor. It was not premeditated."

"I know, Minerva told me she hold you more than the time allowed. It is no problem."

"Thank you very much. Professor, I have another thing to ask you too. I don't know if you recomended another book in class today, so if you did that, I'm sorry. But If you didn't, I would apreciate if you could indicate to me some books related to Charms theory."

"Another book of Charms? Have you read all the content of the first book yet?"

"Yes, Professor. I've read both the first and the second year books of Charms."

"So why are you asking for another book? Are you having some difficulty?"

"No, not at all. It is just that talking to Professor McGonagall today made me realize I may be going through the wrong path in Charms, so I decided to research more about the

specificities of the study of Charms. So I'm asking you for books related to that."

"I think you should just focus on the current schedule. If you want more books you may look for this ones at the library." He writes in a paper and gives it to me. He indicates three books that seems to be about magical theory. I guess as Charms are more easy it is more difficult to stand out. I don't think I should do any kind of perfomance to Professor Flitwick, since he didn't ask me anything.

I thank him and head to the Great Hall to have Lunch. I'm starving, I performed a lot of Transfiguration spells to Professor McGonagall. I am exhausted. Once I get in the Great Hall a lot of students are looking at me and I can tell some are talking about me. Before I could sit to eat, a lot of students come in my direction. Seamus Finnigan and Dean Thomas are the first to approach me.
