Chapter 26: The Appearance of the Heart-Breaking Mother

Jiang Xinghua was used to seeing this and did not try to probe further.

Liu Guimei returned to her parent’s house early in the morning without even bringing her son along.

She felt angry whenever she recalled that she was beaten up last night.

She wanted to see how much they would miss her once she had left the home.

Especially her son who was very attached to her. He would definitely kick up a fuss.

She would expect Fu Erxing to turn up at her mother’s house personally to ask her back. Otherwise, her anger could not diminish and she would not go back to that house.

“Mother, I’m back.”

Liu Guimei’s parents lived in the Stone Village, which was just next to Liu Shan Village. It was only a short walking-distance away.

Madam Song, Liu Guimei’s mother, was busy picking vegetables from her courtyard garden when she glanced up.

She didn’t look very welcoming.

There was no other reason.

This girl would devour everything in sight as soon as she returned home. It seemed she thought her mom’s home was a never-ending supply of food.

She was extremely lazy.

Liu Guimei would use up almost a month of Madam Song’s usual food expenses each time she came home.

Moreover, she would turn up with empty hands each time she returned. However, when she was going back, she would take as many things that she could from her home. It was no different from a bandit raid.

As a result, Madam Song would have to spend her next month eating pickled vegetables for her meals.

She glanced behind Liu Guimei. There was no one there.

“Why isn’t my grandson here? Did you come back alone?”

Needless to ask.

The couple had probably squabbled, and she had stormed back to her parents’ place.

“I’m already in a bad mood. If I had brought him along, he would surely make it worse.” Liu Guimei said matter-of-factly .

Madam Song knew her too well to know what she was thinking of .

She was going too far. Each time, she would leave her son at her in-laws’ house to be cared for. Then she could escape her parenting responsibilities and have fun while out by herself.

If this went on, her relationship with her son would grow distant sooner or later.

Madam Song knew her daughter very well. She walked out of the vegetable field with her basket and asked, “What are you up to this time?”

Every time she came back to her mother’s house, she would still have to go back to apologize eventually.

She would spite nobody but herself.

Her absence would not cause trouble for her In-laws, but she would definitely cause trouble for her own mother.

“Mother, your daughter was the victim of a huge grievance. It’s fine if you don’t comfort me, yet you have to be so mean to me.”

Was she her biological daughter?

Liu Guimei felt extremely aggrieved.

“Don’t I know what you’re like? Are you the kind of person who would allow yourself to be a victim of something?” Madam Song snapped.

With her shrewishness, she would be the one that turned others into victims.

Liu Guimei lowered her head and kept quiet.

Mdm Song carried her basket and sat down by the side to continue harvesting vegetables.

She blurted out, “If you continue like this, not only will your in-laws be unable to tolerate you, but you will even spoil Erxing’s love for you eventually. If that happens, it will be too late for you to regret.

Quarreling with him and coming to my house every few days out of temper. Even I think that you are going too far.”

Even she felt annoyed at her own daughter’s antics, let alone others.

Her in-law, Mdm Fu, was neither an unreasonable person, nor an evil mother-in-law who likes to make things difficult for her daughter-in-law. In fact, she was quite easy to talk to. As for her son-in-law, Erxing, he had always been diligent and respectful to her.

On the other hand, her daughter had a bunch of shortcomings, including laziness, a tendency to take advantage of others, and more. The list could go on and on.

Sometimes, she even felt that the Fu family was unlucky to have a daughter-in-law like her daughter.

To her, it was fortunate that the Fu family took her into their family. Otherwise, she might be single forever.

She felt the need to give her daughter a lecture while she’s here.

Liu Guimei didn’t think that she had done anything wrong. She touched her swollen face and complained, “Mother, look at my face. That b*stard Erxing hit me so hard.”

Mdm Song took a look and noticed some injuries.

However, she didn’t look worried and just asked, “Erxing did that?”

“Yes. In the past, he would at most scold me a little. But this time, he actually hit me. Mother, don’t you think he went too far?” Liu Guimei was angry again just thinking about it.

She felt aggrieved again.

“You must have done something outrageous for him to hit you.”

A mother knows her daughter the best.

She knew her son-in-law very well.

Liu Guimei felt her heart breaking.

“Mother, it’s your daughter who’s the victim who got hit, yet you’re still speaking up for him.”

“Tell me exactly what you did. Erxing wouldn’t hit you without a good reason.”

Compared to what her daughter said, she trusted her son-in-law’s character more.

Liu Guimei felt another punch to her heart, breaking it into more pieces.

“I just drank a little bit of pigeon soup.” Though Liu Guimei’s voice was a little hesitant, she continued to wear an “I didn’t do anything wrong” sort of attitude.

Even without her recounting the full story, Mdm Song could already vaguely guess what had happened.

For it to be that outrageous that it would cause her son-in-law to hit her daughter, it meant that the “a little” that she said just now was probably not just “a little”.

“You drank the entire pot, right?” Mdm Song said casually.

Did she have to be this accurate?

Liu Guimei coughed.

As expected.

Mdm Song smacked her head and exclaimed, “You deserve to be beaten up. If it were me, I would definitely beat you to death. Your mother-in-law is doing her confinement now, but you still did such a thing. Not to mention that you have a sick grandmother-in-law at home too. How selfish could you be?”

She knew that she was greedy, but she had not expected her to go this far.

No wonder Erxing hit her.

“If you were in any other family, your in-laws would have kicked you out long ago. Who else would have let you stay until today other than the Fu family?”

Liu Guimei groaned in pain, but she was still unrepentant. She argued,”What’s wrong with me finishing a pot? If not for me , there wouldn’t have been so many goodies at home…”

“Get out of my house. You’re embarrassing me. I won’t be able to face the Fu family in-laws in the future.” Mdm Song was so furious that she wanted to chase her out.

She was already furious when she heard the story recounted, let alone the Fu family who experienced it first-hand.

The Fu family was gracious and didn’t punish her, yet she had the audacity to feel wronged by them.

And to top it off, she had the nerve to go back to her parents’ house without telling anyone.

She was simply too embarrassing.

“I’m not going back. If he doesn’t come and apologize to me, I won’t go back,” Liu Guimei said self-righteously.

Madam Song was so angry that she picked up a broom and hit her.

Why isn’t she using her brains even after she had eaten so much nutrition? How is it that she still saw herself as the victim after the whole incident?!

“You’re so shameless! You have the audacity to expect Erxing to come and ask you back when you’re the one who has done something wrong? Not only will Erxing hit you, I’ll also beat you to death today.” With that, Mdm Song brandished her broom and hit her from all angles. She wanted to hit her till she was finally able to use her brains to think clearly.

Liu Guimei stood up in pain and dodged left and right, pleading, “Mother, stop hitting me. It hurts.”

It was one thing to suffer grievances at her in-laws’ house, yet she had to be beaten up even when she had returned to her parents’ house.

Liu Guimei cried aggrievedly.

She sobbed, “Why is my life so bitter? Not only did my dear mother side or help me, she even hit me…”

Worried that the commotion would attract the unwanted attention from the neighbors, Madam Song stopped hitting her.

She knew very well how big a commotion her daughter was capable of.

She did not want to be embarrassed. .

Liu Guimei was still crying uncontrollably, causing Madam Song to snap at her, “Get a hold of yourself! How can you be so embarrassing?”

Hearing this, Liu Guimei cried even harder. Madam Song was so angry with her daughter that her temples ached.

“Go back to the Fu Family.”

Madam Song did not want to keep her in her house.

She did not want the Fu family to misunderstand that she was being an unreasonable mother who sided her daughter blindly.

“I don’t want to. If I go back so quickly, it will be too embarrassing.” Liu Guimei refused to go back.

If she went back now, she would be shooting herself in the foot.

She must at least spend a few nights out before going back.

“If you do know what ’embarrassing’ meant, you wouldn’t have done something like that in the first place. What can I say about you?” Madam Song heatedly pointed a finger at Liu Guimei’s forehead and continued scolding her. “Even good-natured people have their limits. Look what you’ve done to Erxing to make him lose his usual cool!”

“Mother,” Liu Guimei implored, her head bowed in submission, “please, allow me to stay here for just two more days. I promise that I will leave on my own after that, without causing you any further trouble.”

Madam Song wildly gestured with her hands, as if she was releasing her frustration through the motion. She had no other outlet for her anger.

The hooha was all for nothing yet again.

“You can stay here on one condition: you must apologize to your mother-in-law and the others after you go back.” Madam Song said firmly.
