Chapter 15: A Big Boar

A big boar?

It was not so difficult. He could easily hunt a big boar.

The little fledgling, standing at the top of the tree facing the glow of the morning sun, heard the conversation between Su Hu and Li Xiu’e. It pondered for a while. It then chirped several times, fluttered its delicate wings, and flew into the deep mountain.

Armed and energetic, Su Hu began his hunting in the mountains. Before he entered the deep mountain, he heard the frightened chirp of birds at the foothill of the mountain near the village.

The birds on the branches of the trees flapped their wings and flew away. A strange noise could be heard from the grass on the ground.

A pheasant screamed at the top of its voice and rushed out of the grass in a panic, running straight at Su Hu.

Su Hu didn’t have time to draw his sword. He grabbed the wings of the pheasant with his hands and caught the pheasant alive.

The pheasant struggled desperately. Its sharp claws scratched the back of Su Hu’s hand, causing blood to ooze out from the scratch.

Su Hu didn’t have time to care about his wounds. He immediately drew his hunting knife out and cut the neck of the pheasant.

The pheasant shrieked and howled. Its wings twitched violently. Then, it gradually stopped breathing.

“Oh, finally.”

Su Hu breathed a sigh of relief. Before he could put the pheasant into the basket, a harsh howl came from afar. The birds fluttered their wings in fear and hovered over the mountain forest.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The ground trembled violently as if something huge was running quickly. It seemed to be a giant beast.

“No shit! A beast is coming.”

Su Hu was shocked. Subconsciously, he threw the pheasant on the ground and ran to the nearest towering tree. He used both his hands and feet to climb up the tree.

“Roar!”

A wild boar, as tall as an adult and as strong as a buffalo with blood coming out of its eyes, seemed to be driven by someone and ran wildly in the mountain forest.

It rushed out of the grass in panic. Unfortunately, it bumped into the big tree that Su Hu was climbing. The sharp tusks poked into the tree. The boar’s head was nearly crushed and its neck bone was broken. It was dead.

Cracking!

Under the violent impact, the tree split from bottom to top and was tottering.

“Oh my god! So close!”

Su Hu was really scared at that time. He climbed down from the tree and jumped to the ground. He could feel that his legs were still weak.

The dream that he made up in the early morning came true.

How lucky he was!

He put his hand on his chest and forced himself to breathe normally. He stared at the wild boar. What just happened almost scared the shit out of him, and he was stunned for a long time. He couldn’t believe that he was indeed so lucky. His heart was beating really fast.

Su Hu carried the big wild boar and invited every villager, young and old, to a big feast. The people of Woniu Village were happy and excited.

When the sun went down, the smell of meat came from the kitchen of Su Hu’s house. The children in the village ran out of their houses and gathered around the yard of Su Hu’s house while peering into the courtyard wall.

Li Xiu’e worked with several women whom she was familiar with in the village. They were dealing with the boar’s head, tail, and broken bones, and setting up another cooking pot to make soup and stew.

In the open space outside the yard, six borrowed square tables were placed side by side, occupied by men from almost all the families in the village.

After stewing the wild boar in soy sauce, Li Xiu’e carefully picked up the soft and lean meat. She then put it in bowls and distributed them to the children of each family to take home.

Then, she divided the remaining bones into six parts, put them in a washbasin, and placed them on the table for the men to eat.

“Su Hu, good for you. You haven’t hunted in the mountain for three years, right? You actually got a wild boar as soon as you went hunting.”

After drinking for a while, the village head got drunk. He patted Su Hu on the shoulder and gave a thumbs up.
