Realizing that her face was going to kiss the ground, especially in front of the arrogant Tuoba Yan, the girl whom she hated so much, Chen Qing was so chagrined. She felt that she shouldn’t have listened to Fu Shuya to see this hateful girl, or else she wouldn’t have been rebutted and made a fool of herself again.

Chen Qing subconsciously closed her eyes and covered her head with her arms.

She thought that she was about to drop on the cold marbled floor. However, she didn’t expect a warm and soft body to cushion her fall.

It was Tuoba Yan.

Tuoba Yan caught Chen Qing at the most critical moment, but the stitch on her wrist reopened, and brightly coloured blood quickly seeped through the layers of gauze and dripped from Tuoba Yan’s pale fingertips. Her face turned pale in pain. She reluctantly hooked up the corners of her lips, revealing a smile to Chen Qing that definitely couldn’t be described as pretty at the moment.

Chen Qing was dumbfounded, Fu Shu Ya and Fang Qin Ying screamed in fear. Tuoba Yan got up with difficulty and pulled up Chen Qing who was still lying on the ground, frozen.

Nurse Qiao, who was on duty at the nurses’ station not far away, hurried over. Fu Shuya quickly held Tuoba Yan with the nurse, while Fang Qinying lifted Chen Qing, and escorted both back to the ward.

Nurse Qiao was a distant sister of Qiao Chunyi and usually took care of Tuoba Yan a lot. She liked this well-behaved and clever little girl very much. To see her hand dripping with blood at the moment, she was also a little flustered. She quickly unwrapped the gauze, and seeing Tuoba Yan’s bloody wound, she could not help but suck in a breath of cold air, and immediately open the first-aid kit. She took an absorbent cotton dipped in alcohol to wipe the wound.

Chen Qing and others looked at Tuoba Yan’s wound stupidly. The fine stitches had been pulled loose at the moment, more or less affecting the wounds that had been gradually healing, and tearing the muscle again. The alcohol-dipped cotton was rubbed on Tuoba Yan’s flesh, they couldn’t imagine how much that would hurt.

However, Tuoba Yan acted like nothing was wrong and even had the heart to joke, “Scared?

With sweat dripping from the tip of her nose, her face paled. Chen Qing bit her lip, and her beautiful apricot eyes welled up with tears as she asked Tuoba Yan.

“Why?”

Fang Qinying and Fu Shuya couldn’t figure it out either. Why did Tuoba Yan not think and directly jump to block Chen Qing from harm?

Nurse Qiao coldly strengthened and sutured Tuoba Yan’s wrist. Tuoba Yan still didn’t take it seriously and beckoned to Chen Qing, “Chen Qing, come here.“

Chen Qing stood up and slowly walked over to Tuoba Yan, who reached out her hand and pinched Chen Qing’s chin, looked around at the pretty face, and then smiled and said, “Fortunately, you didn’t hurt your face, you should be careful next time. The face of a girl is very delicate.”

As soon as Qiao Chunyi returned, she was called by her younger cousin. Nurse Qiao was furious as she spoke. “Sister Chunyi, you go back and talk with Xiao Yan. She was too careless. The injuries on her hands were getting healed and her skin was becoming as good as before but she just had to play a hero to protect her classmate. It’s not that I’m complaining, but she’s going to be in big trouble sooner or later for acting so recklessly.”

Qiao Chunyi could not figure out why Nurse Qiao was saying this. The blood on the door of the ward was cleaned by the janitor, and the bedsheets and clothes were changed into new ones. But Tuoba Yan’s pale face and the gauze wrapped tightly around her wrist were clearly visible. Qiao Chunyi was so shocked that she almost dropped the lunchbox in her hand. “Yan Yan, what’s wrong?”

The nurse Qiao, who had already scolded Tuoba Yan but was still angry, came in again and explained, “Xiao Yan’s classmate’s almost fell when she was walking blindly1TL: I’m not sure if Nurse Qiao was saying it was Chen Qing or sth’s fault or not so just wrote that. and so Xiao Yan, in order to help her classmate, cushioned the fall and the wound reopened. Three more stitches were added.”

Tuoba Yan grinned flatteringly, but Qiao Chunyi had the least resistance to her daughter’s smiling face and rubbed her head fiercely. “What a fool! This is not allowed in the future!”

Qiao Chunyi gave her three fresh wontons2TL: Wonton is kinda like a dumpling soup.. She opened the lid of the lunch box, and the fresh aroma and hot vapor that came to her face was enough to make people salivate. Tuoba Yan sat on the bed and Qiao Chunyi handed her the spoon. “Be careful, eat slowly.”

Still obeying the ancient rituals, Tuoba Yan let her mother eat first. Qiao Chunyi tried hard to keep her face taut as she ate two spoonfuls, and only then, Tuoba Yan started to eat happily.

Sanxian (three delicacies) in Sanxian Wonton referred to fresh fish meat, fine pork, and deveined fresh shrimps. These three ingredients were first finely chopped into a filling, then the filling was wrapped in a flexible wonton wrapper that’s made of egg white and flour. After that, the wontons are put into boiling water and cooked, then poured with clear chicken stock. Lastly, a bowl of wontons full of colour, fragrance and taste are completed.

[TL: Shoutout to Meng for helping with this paragraph, muah.]

This was Tuoba Yan’s recent thought; although Qiao Chunyi was sometimes careless and nervous, she was good at observing her daughter’s preferences.

As she fished the wontons with her spoon, Qiao Chunyi suddenly sighed. “Silly girl, I don’t know what you do all day here.”

Tuoba Yan was confused. “Eh?” She just got shot while laying down3TL: {Get shot even when lying down is an internet slang used when you’re caught up in a dispute when you’re just an innocent bystander/overhear a gossip that’s not directed to you in particular but applies to you. In this case, they were just eating peacefully but the mom suddenly brought up a matter with her daughter.}!

Qiao Chunyi did not want to affect her daughter’s mood while eating, so she shook her head to indicate that she should continue to eat. Only after Tuoba Yan finished eating the wonton and drank all the soup, did she open her mouth, “Yan Yan, you have heard about your suspension from your classmates today, right?”

It turned out that the former Tuoba Yan had insisted on dropping out to become a star, but Qiao Chunyi was helpless. She did not apply for her dropout but just tried her best to handle a year’s suspension. Although Tuoba Yan became rational after trying to commit suicide, Qiao Chunyi did not dare to tell her, fearing that she would repeat the old matters.

Tuoba Yan put down her spoon and nodded. “I know.”

“What do you think about this?” Qiao Chunyi asked carefully.

What did Tuoba Yan think? She thought she definitely needed to go to school!

She was brought up as a boy in her previous life and was taught by her grandfather from the age of three. She was expected to be like her grandfather; top the three consecutive imperial exams, wear a red robe as she parades through the streets and then get a great career in officialdom and honour the post of a marquis and his ancestors

Who would have thought that the Huns army would raid Shengzhou? Her grandfather had refused to submit to the Huns. His sentence of “Barbarians dare to invade our territory” angered the Huns’ leader. Millions of arrows pierced his heart and he died tragically in the city.

Who would have thought that the Tuoba clan’s young master, the famous child prodigy, would be a daughter raised as a Young Master? She was quickly taken by her maids to change into female clothes and hide in the farmhouse, luckily escaping the Huns’ search for her.

Then, filled with hatred, she swore that she would avenge her grandfather’s death by taking the Huns leader’s head leading her to later join the army.

Resurrected in the modern time after her death, Tuoba Yan felt that this was probably the compensation that the heavens had given her, isn’t it?

Tuoba Yan and Qiao Chunyi sat down to talk together and elaborated on their thoughts.

Naturally, the first thing was to rest and recuperate her health, so she wouldn’t do anything stupid. Mother Qiao Chunyi was reassured by that. Since she was propagated from school in April, Fu Shu Ya and others told her that she had to wait for the current class of sophomores to be inserted into the senior class to continue her studies, and then take the college entrance exam.

It was August right now, which meant there was still time before the school starts next year. Knowing that her family’s situation was not good, Tuoba Yan planned to move back home to recuperate after a few days of stability and not stay in the hospital permanently. When Qiao Chunyi would go to work as usual, she would do the household chores that she could manage, and of course pick up the curriculum, after all, there was school next year.

Tuoba Yan’s words were just in line with Qiao Chunyi’s heart. She was very happy. She said that her daughter had really grown up and became sensible. She couldn’t help but tear up again.

Tuoba Yan was telling the truth but she did conceal a bit and didn’t tell all the things to her mother.

She didn’t say that she also wanted to find a job and lessen the burden on their family.

Qiao Chunyi held Tuoba Yan’s hand, not to mention how happy she was, she said slightly regretfully, “It’s just a pity that you’ll definitely have a scar on this wrist.” But she was worried about poking her daughter’s sore spot and immediately changed the subject.

Scars…

Tuoba Yan didn’t even think of it, but Qiao Chunyi seemed to care about the scars?

She had a lot of scars from the war in her previous life. Several military counselors around her were proficient in medical skills… She had learnt a lot from them, so she was also kind of regarded as being half a doctor. They had also passed her a recipe for removing scars.

Later when Tuoba Yan had married the emperor, she found that he was very reluctant to face the small scars on her body. So she personally made the medicine according to that prescription and applied it on her scars. The effect was very good. In addition to various medical baths and massages, she soon had delicate skin with no scars.

Now that she thought about it, the deep affection and tenderness the Emperor held for her when they were newly wed, were merely his infatuation and fancy for her youthful and delicate self.

Since her mother cared about the scars, she wouldn’t mind going through the trouble to get rid of them.

The author has something to say:

General Yan: Seeing that there are so many people who like me, I feel relieved. I will go to the medicinal herbs market tomorrow and start to remove scars and take care of my skin~

Li Yanrao: Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

Old man Li Dingchen: Don’t be so excited, my dear granddaughter. You won’t have your part tomorrow.

Li Yanrao: Eh?!
