Divine Hack System

5 05 - Teacher?

'Shit, I thought I was rich, but the price for these items is exorbitant…' Leo thought as he looked at the things for sale.

Leo initially thought about buying a bow made with Bronze 2 Stars monster materials, but even the cheapest bow made with Bronze 1 Star materials cost $1,500 and a quiver with 20 arrows cost another $500, for a total of $2,000 for the set. He even thought about buying a pistol with some ammunition, but he knew that in the long run this would not be effective.

Even a bow made with Bronze 1 Star materials could kill Bronze 5 Stars monsters with some difficulty, but ordinary combustion weapons could not deal with monsters other than Bronze 3 Stars. Weapons with larger calibers could even handle Pure Silver 1 Star monsters, but this type of weapon was much more expensive and difficult to obtain.

So despite the high price of the bow, he still bought it along with the set of 20 arrows. The advantage of this was that the arrows could be reused for a long time as long as they didn't hit bones too often or sturdier things, and for Leo who had Aim-Bot, that wouldn't be a problem, as within 20 meters range he wouldn't have to worry about hitting something at which he hadn't aimed.

Leaving the Trading Post with only $100 left, Leo was not overly disheartened. He knew that with this new bow he could hunt even more powerful monsters and earn even more money. Arriving home Leo began to admire the bow he bought. Being made of Bronze 1 Star monsters, the bow wasn't the most magnificent piece he'd seen in his life, but it was definitely much prettier than bows made from ordinary materials.

The bow's body was made from a Bronze Mutant Tree 1 Star - a wood much stronger than some human-made fibers. The string was made from the tendons of a Bronze Mutant Deer 1 Star, which made it possible for Awakened to be able to exert more force than mundane string bows, while the arrowheads were made from the teeth of Bronze Mutant Wolves 1 Star, which was obviously sharper than common metal tips.

The Mutant Tree's wood was slightly greenish, while the Mutant Deer's sinews were beige, helping a great deal with camouflaging the weapon in a forest. Even some details were carved into the bow, with some drawings of the mutated Trees' faces, which made the weapon as beautiful as it was lethal.

With his body extremely tired from the day's hunting trip and the stress of having to worry about his own safety in a hostile environment, when Leo got out of the shower and laid down on the bed, he fell asleep in less than 15 seconds without even putting on his pajamas.

The next day, Leo woke up very hungry. He had gone to bed the day before at 4:00 in the afternoon, and woke up today at 5:00 in the morning, giving him a total of 13 hours of sleep! Considering he'd only had breakfast the day before, his body was begging for a lot of food as soon as his eyes opened.

His breakfast was very strong. He was only able to stop feeling hungry after eating the third omelet and drinking the second glass of milk. But as soon as he left the house, Leo was confident. Today was his last free day to hunt. Since today was Sunday, tomorrow he would have to go to school and he wouldn't have as much time available for hunting. So his goal today would be to kill enough Bronze 2 Stars monsters for him to at least reach Bronze Rank 2 Stars.

Leaving the house at 6 am on a Sunday, Leo saw hardly anyone on the streets until he arrived at the city gate and found the two guards he saw yesterday talking with a respectful expression to a slightly familiar person. Moving closer, Leo recognized the person who was talking to the guards and understood why the guards were being so respectful to this person. This person was a teacher at his school, not a history or math teacher, but the teacher of the school's Special Class, the class for Awakened students.

"Good morning, Professor. Good morning guards," Leo said in a polite manner as he prepared to walk through the city gate, but before he got too far away, a confused voice called out to him from behind.

"Professor? Are you by any chance a student at the Blue Pearl School?" A mature voice came from the person talking to the guards.

Leo was surprised that the professor had paid attention to this, so he turned around with a polite smile and replied, "Yes, Professor. I have studied at the Blue Pearl School for three years. This year I am in my last semester there."

The 40-year-old teacher looked at Leo in a bit of amazement. This teacher was the only teacher who taught the Awakened students at the Blue Pearl School, and seeing how this young man was walking through the gate alone so naturally, he soon deduced that this young man was also an Awakened, but he was confused as to why he didn't remember who this student was.

Seeing that this boy had surprised them so much yesterday, the guards were soon able to understand why Leo could do something as grand as what he did. With a teacher as powerful as this man in front of them, it was only natural that this man's students would also become powerful people in the future.

The first guard even said flatteringly, "So that's why you just awakened recently and managed to kill as many monsters as yesterday! Your teacher is Professor Edward!"

Edward, the 40 year old teacher, was surprised by what the guard said as he really didn't remember this student, but hearing what the guard said about what this young man had done yesterday, Edward became even more curious about him, to the point of asking, "Have you awakened recently?"

"Yes, it's only been a few days. Today is my second day hunting alone," Leo replied.

Edward finally understood why he didn't know this boy, as only young people who had already awakened could take classes from him, and as the boy had awakened a few days ago, it was reasonable that he still hadn't transferred classes.

"That's a nice coincidence! I just happened to be going to harvest some mutated plants to do some experiments. How about we go together? I can give you some pointers in the meantime," Edward said with a pleasant smile on his face as he studied Leo.

He had noticed that the boy was using a Bronze 1 Star monster bow, which indicated that he was probably just an Awakened Bronze 1 Star. But to use a bow, most likely this boy's quirk must be some ranged power, which was something very useful for Awakened teams.

And finally, the main reason this boy had maintained his attention was that the boy was actually going out to hunt alone for the second time while he was still an Awakened Bronze 1 Star, which meant that this boy was not just an ordinary student, as few people could hunt monsters of the same rank alone unless they had a powerful quirk or were extremely skilled. Any of these alternatives would be worth it for Edward to get to know this student better.

Leo was extremely shocked by what Edward had suggested to him. He might not have known much about the professor, but he knew that the man was highly respected at the school, ranking only second in strength among teachers, just behind the school principal. With a Pure Silver Rank 3 Stars, in Blue Sky city this person could already be considered a peak power, having a high rank in the army as well as a lot of prestige wherever he went. That was the strength of Professor Edward of the Blue Pearl School Awakened class!

(You can see Professor Edward's visual representation on our discord, link at the end of the chapter)

Leo would have been stupid to refuse tips from someone as powerful as Professor Edward, so without a second thought he nodded and replied, "I couldn't be happier to accompany you, Professor."

Leo was the type of person that as long as a person treated him with respect, he would respect that person in the same way, but as long as the person was rude and disrespectful to him, he would be double with them in turn. Being treated well by the most prestigious teacher at the Blue Pearl School, Leo wouldn't be so arrogant as to treat this man who smiled at him poorly.

"So come along then. The place where the mutated plants I'm looking for is in a Bronze 2 Stars monster zone, but on the way there are some Bronze 1 Star monsters, which you can deal with while I give you some tips," Edward said with a smile as he started walking towards the plant monsters.

Leo realized that the professor probably thought he could only handle Bronze monsters 1 Star since he was just a Bronze Awakened 1 Star but he didn't bother correcting the man. After all, if he said he could handle Bronze monsters 2 Stars, he would probably just look like an arrogant young man who wanted to look strong to a powerful man like him.

Leo thought it would be better to just act normally and kill all the monsters that came. In the worst case, if he couldn't kill some Bronze monsters 2 Stars, the professor could help him at that moment. It would be a favorable situation for both of them.

With a smile on his face, Leo followed the professor as he walked with his bow notched with an arrow ready to shoot at any moment if a monster appeared. Meanwhile, Professor Edward just kept quiet as he watched first how this newly awakened student intended to deal with the monsters, so that later he could give Leo any necessary tips to improve.

What he was thinking was exactly what Leo imagined. And seeing how this young student didn't brag that he could kill Bronze 2 Stars monsters like most young people who wanted to please him did, it already made Edward's view of Leo much more pleasing to the eye. A handsome student, with good aptitude, willing to go hunting alone on weekends without classes, and mostly humble - it was hard for Edward not to find this student interesting.
