Defeated By Love

Chapter 39.1

It was then that Shu Nian finally remembered where the familiar feeling she came from. Before the Spring Festival, she dubbed a scene which included some lines about the feelings someone got as they secretly fell in love with another person.

They felt very happy when they saw the person they liked and how a bad day could turn into a good day from just seeing them.

In the past, she1 could casually chat with him2 but now she thought over every sentence before she saying them out loud.

Every word and insignificant movement from him made her think of it all day long.

Whenever he approached and no matter what he did, she would be unable to do anything after. She’d be out of breath like the sky was exploding with colourful flowers.

This kind of feeling perfectly matched with hers because Shu Nian found countless areas where she related to those words.

She had no choice but to admit it.

She liked Xie Ruhe.

Furthermore, she had a certain idea3 now.

It felt like they were dating.

Shu Nian raised her hand and took the doughnut from him to nibble at. She knew that she couldn’t lie very well and was afraid of being seen acting strange so she didn’t say anything at all.

Although Xie Ruhe’s action could cause thousands of thoughts to wander, in her personal opinion, it was an extremely ambiguous move.

Even so, she didn’t dare to question it.

Xie Ruhe’s situation was only just beginning to improve and he would be completely better soon.

By then, he wouldn’t need to stay at home every day because he felt inferior or miserable due to his shortcomings. He could go out to see the sun, tease the wild cats on the side of the road and embrace the world.

For Xie Ruhe, this would probably just be a small event in his life.

Although she was told that he had a bad temper, Shu Nian didn’t feel the time she spent with him was as terrible as the rumours suggested. His appearance was outstanding, he had a good family background and was very good in his field of work.

His existence was simply too dazzling to ignore.

Even if she kept telling herself that it was unnecessary, she still felt inferior to him.

This kind of feeling was probably some kind of dependency developed from spending too much time together so it shouldn’t be mistaken as like.

Seeing this scene, Fang Wencheng, who was sitting on the other side of the sofa, suddenly found that his existence was more invisible than before. With all the pink bubbles in the air, there wasn’t another lightbulb4 as bright as him.

He finally had the consciousness to say: “I’ll go out to make a phone call.”

All of a sudden, there were only the two of them left in the house.

Shu Nian was thinking about some things. Her mind was all over the place as she bit into the doughnut. When she ate, she didn’t produce any sounds and looked like a little hamster.

There was a pause.

Xie Ruhe didn’t do anything else. He leaned back on the sofa and quietly looked at her.

Shu Nian was aware of his gaze and ate the last bit of the doughnut in her hand, suddenly saying: “I’ll pour you a glass of water. You’re probably feeling very tired after walking outside for so long.”

Shu Nian was about to stand up but she suddenly found that the slippers on her feet were gone.

She liked to be barefoot and often kicked her slippers away subconsciously when wearing them at home. She had never thought of changing this habit because she usually did this when she was alone.

But Shu Nian didn’t expect that she would do the same thing in front of Xie Ruhe.

She was a little embarrassed and thought she had kicked them under the coffee table. She wanted to reach out to see if she could retrieve them.

The next moment, Xie Ruhe turned to the side. He pulled out a pair of slippers from under the sofa and put them in front of her as if he had eyes under the seat.

After finishing those series of actions, Xie Ruhe leaned back on the sofa again. He looked both lazy and elegant. He lowered his eyes and said in a calm narrative like-tone. “You like to kick backwards.”

Today, Shu Nian mainly came over to see him, chat with him and accompany him when he’s doing his physical therapy. It was supposed to be something like a small gathering between friends.

But she didn’t know what to say now.

It felt like she had said everything to him on WeChat already.

Xie Ruhe had just walked a lot outside as his daily exercise and when she was chatting with him just then, she figured out that he had physical therapy in the morning and night.

Therefore, he should have just finished training not too long ago.

Such an awkward atmosphere lasted for a while.

In order to find something for herself to do, Shu Nian managed to eat four doughnuts in a row and her stomach swelled so much that she couldn’t eat anymore. She couldn’t help saying: “Aren’t you going to eat any?”

Xie Ruhe raised his eyes and scanned the remaining two doughnuts on the table: “You eat them.”

Shu Nian honestly replied. “I can’t eat that much.”

Xie Ruhe’s reaction was still light: “If you can’t eat them now just leave it for later. Isn’t the remaining two left for Fang Wencheng?”

Shu Nian turned her head towards him when she heard him speak those words. She glanced at him and then in the direction of the door.

Her eyes darted around like a child with a guilty conscience.
