Shu Nian didn’t understand him at all. 

At the beginning of university, her first impression of him was actually very poor. She felt that he was careless, not serious and playful. He always appeared beside her for no reason and said many inexplicable things. 

Later, he confessed and said that he had liked her since their first meeting. 

He also had a warm attitude towards all the other girls, behaving ambiguously and passing it off as if he was just being kind and showing mercy to them.1 Shu Nian didn’t have many good feelings towards him and felt that he wasn’t a very decent person.

Xu Zeyuan didn’t talk much along the way and Shu Nian didn’t have anything to talk about either. She planned on lending him the umbrella and running back to the girl’s dormitory which wasn’t too far away.  

But the next moment, Xu Zeyuan tilted the umbrella to cover all of her.

His body was exposed to the rain once again, drenching him. 

It reminded her of Xie Ruhe. 

It also made her remember the her who used to not think very clearly. She would draw conclusions quickly with only a few details at hand and accidentally label good people as bad. 

Shu Nian felt that she had done that with Xu Zeyuan.

And she reflected on it for a while. 

After this encounter, Shu Nian changed the way she acted towards Xu Zeyuan. She didn’t avoid him like before and gradually became friends with him. After getting along with each other, she found that she seemed to have misunderstood him before.

He was actually just a big boy who liked to have fun. 

He knew how to keep an appropriate distance from other girls and become serious when there were serious matters going on. 

At the end of their third semester, Xu Zeyuan confessed to her again. 

She didn’t know if she liked him or not. She just knew that she didn’t feel annoyed with being in his company. Actually, she even felt quite comfortable around him and thought about it for a long time. In the end, she accepted his confession.

Xu Zeyuan said he didn’t mind and was willing to advance their relationship little by little. 

But less than half a year later, Xu Zeyuan broke up with her. 

For Shu Nian, the sudden breakup was just like a handful of salt that was sprinkled on a reopened wound and she couldn’t feel anything because of the numbness. 

Their short love story also told her something.

Xu Zeyuan didn’t like her as much as he said he did. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have chosen to leave when she was at rock bottom. 

He was looking for her now and Shu Nian just couldn’t figure out what was going through his mind. 

But his reappearance made her suppress the little spark she had for Xie Ruhe. 

Shu Nian read Xie Ruhe’s reply with a dazed expression. 

Xie Ruhe:【 OK, go to bed early. 】

She didn’t reply. 

Whether it was a misunderstanding or something real, it wasn’t something she should be thinking of right now. She shouldn’t harm anyone until she got completely better. Furthermore, it was Xie Ruhe.

Fang Wencheng drove the car silently. He was too scared to speak. 

After a while, Xie Ruhe whispered: “Go and find out what happened to Shu Nian before.”

Before Fang Wencheng could answer though, Xie Ruhe suddenly remembered the conversation he just had with Shu Nian.

——”What happened to you?” 

——”Can I not say?”

It was something she didn’t want others to know about. 

It was something she didn’t want him to know about.

Xie Ruhe’s jaw tightened and his facial features straightened. His appearance was buried in the darkness but beams of light entered through the window. Light and shadows mixed together. His expression was dark and he looked extremely sad. 

Fang Wencheng nodded and replied: “Okay.” 

Xie Ruhe closed his eyes. His voice was hoarse and filled with frustration: “Forget it.” 

Fang Wencheng nodded again and didn’t question it. “Okay.” 

The car quieted down. 

After a while, Fang Wencheng hesitated and mentioned something: “Young master, your grandfather called and said that your father is seriously ill. He hopes that you can go and visit him.” 

“…” Xie Ruhe’s eyelids moved as if he hadn’t heard of that person in a long time and suddenly raised his eyes. His lips curled up and he raised his peach blossom eyes: “My father?” 

Fang Wencheng thickened his skin and said: “Yes.” 

Xie Ruhe put away his smile in an instant. His voice was as cold as an icy blade. He sounded sharp and ruthless as if his words could easily cut through people’s skin and flesh. He appeared extremely cold. 

“He still hasn’t died?”
