Shu Nian couldn’t hear him clearly and just guessed that he probably thought she had disagreed to his request. She felt that his wish was a quite simple one, it was easy to make true and she had no reason to refuse: “Is that it?”

“En.”

“Where do you usually recover? At the hospital?”

Xie Ruhe’s expression didn’t change as he said: “At home.”

Shu Nian nodded and gave it a thought. She told him: “I usually have to go to the recording studios for work so I won’t be able to visit you often but I will pass by when I have time.”

“Okay.”

“If you want someone to accompany you, you can look for Assistant Fang.” Shu Nian thought that he might not want to do everything alone and seriously gave him some advice: “He is a good person.”

“…” Xie Ruhe remained quiet.

Shu Nian had gotten used to his silence and began to casually chat with him: “Why aren’t you spending your birthday with your grandfather?”

“I went to have lunch with him at noon and then we went to see my mother together.” Xie Ruhe recounted what he had done that day. “I have physical training tonight so I didn’t stay with him.”

After hearing Xie Ruhe mention his mother, Shu Nian paused for a while. She didn’t say anything about it again: “Where is Assistant Fang? Will we go to him?”

Xie Ruhe lazily replied: “I’ll have him come over here.”

They found a place by the roadside to rest.

Shu Nian stood beside him and watched as he looked down at his phone to contact Fang Wencheng. She toed the floor with the tips of her shoes in boredom. It made soft sounds.

“Xie Ruhe, are you twenty…” Shu Nian counted in her head. “Twenty-three years old now?”

“En.”

“Time passed by so fast.” Shu Nian was a little happy. “We have known each other for almost ten years.”

Hearing those words, Xie Ruhe looked up: “It has been ten years.”

“It’s been so long.” Since they were together, Shu Nian talked about their past. “I still remember that time my father came home from a trip and brought back a little guitar for me from the big city.”

“It was a ukulele.”

“Yes, and I couldn’t play it. You were the one who played it the most. It was then that I knew your musical talent was very good.” Shu Nian reminisced the past. “I think you were writing your own music then as well. I knew that you would have a very bright future.”

Because of the tone she used, Xie Ruhe’s expression became a little unnatural: “No.”

Shu Nian’s mood was very light: “Also, at that time, I liked to imitate the lines in cartoons. I told you that I thought the behind-the-scene staff were amazing because they could interpret a character that was on paper and make them three dimensional through sound.”

“…”

“And now I’m in the industry.” Shu Nian thought for a moment. “We both seem to be doing what we like, life doesn’t seem that bad.”

Xie Ruhe listened to her and answered in a low tone. From the moment he knew her, she had always been positive and brought positive energy to the people around her.

Shu Nian turned serious again. She spoke like an old man: “You have to work harder to get better, everything will be fine.”

Xie Ruhe obediently answered her: “I know.”

After her short inspirational speech, they fell into silence again.

Fang Wencheng drove the car over from not too far away.

Just when Xie Ruhe was about to tell her to get in the car, Shu Nian lowered her head. Her mood was obviously sullener than before. She suddenly said a sentence: “In fact, I’m also sick and I’m doing my best to cure it.”

Xie Ruhe stilled in shock and turned his head to her: “What sickness?”

Shu Nian curled her lips. Her smile revealed a small dimple on her cheek. The emotions in her just then seemed to have been Xie Ruhe’s illusion. She sniffed dramatically: “I have a cold.”

“…”

After Fang Wencheng dropped them off at Laiyin River Garden, he restarted the car with no intention of going with them. She didn’t know where he was going to go either.

Shu Nian pushed Xie Ruhe upstairs.

When they entered the main door, there was only a small lamp on in the darkness.

Shu Nian used the limited light to change into a pair of slippers before turning on the living room lights. She took the cake box from Xie Ruhe’s hand and watched him change his shoes. She asked him. “When will you rehabilitate tonight?”

Xie Ruhe’s actions paused and he looked up: “After eating the cake.”

Shu Nian was thoughtful for a moment: “Then let’s eat something else first to line the stomach.”

With those words, she went into the living room with the large cake box: “What will we eat tonight?”

Xie Ruhe followed after her and calmly asked: “There’s nothing on the dining table?”

Shu Nian looked at the dining table after hearing those words. It was empty save for a transparent kettle with some water: “No.”

Xie Ruhe licked his lips and spoke without changing expressions: “I’ll give a call and ask.”

Shu Nian had taken notice before that Xie Ruhe’s dinner was always cooked by a housekeeping aunt. She would clean up the house before cooking a meal.

She looked around.

The living room was clean and neat but that could be because Xue Ruhe didn’t use it often. However, there was half a cup of coffee left on the coffee table and a pair of scissors on the TV cabinet. The pillows on the sofa were laid out hazardously. It was pretty obvious that the aunt didn’t come today.

Shu Nian hesitated and felt that it would be too late for dinner if the aunt came and cooked now. She whispered to him: “Why don’t I cook you something?”

Xie Ruhe immediately looked up at her: “Can you cook?”

“I live alone, of course, I know how to.” Shu Nian scratched her head and said: “I’m just not very good at stir-frying, but I can cook noodles… it’ll just not be as delicious as your housekeeper’s.”

Xie Ruhe’s mood became quite good: “Let’s eat noodles.”

Shu Nian took off her coat and put it on the sofa: “It’ll take a while, wait for me.”

Shu Nian heard the sound of wheels rolling behind her after taking a few steps. She turned back and looked at Xie Ruhe who was following her. She blinked and asked: “Are you coming to the kitchen too?”

Xie Ruhe hummed and calmly told her: “You don’t know where everything is.”

Shu Nian nodded and didn’t say anything else.

The kitchen was large and it was designed in a modern and simple style. The counter table was right-angled and there was a space on the side for the refrigerator. The items were arranged neatly and orderly with the countertop being clean and reflective.

Shu Nian felt strange to be in this kind of place and she didn’t know where to start. She looked at the cabinets and asked him.

“Where is the noodle pot?”

Xie Ruhe became silent and pointed to one of the cabinets: “It should be in there.”
