Dandelion Lover

Chapter 4 - First Impressions

God, today had been so exhausting... I was fighting a growing need to just get in bed and sleep, but I couldn't do it. I had to wait until at least ten in the evening and it was barely the middle of the day. I had to readjust to a normal sleep schedule but coupled with the exhaustion of learning new things at work every day it became hard to keep awake until a certain hour.

Sleepy and grumpy, I ignored my grandma's rambling and prepared a bath for myself. Yeah... I still live with my grandma... sue me... can't really get my own place when I'm broke.

While relaxing in the bathtub filled with bubbles I thought about the meeting that still made my insides churn. Today I finally managed to meet the CEO of the company I work for, who was also the one doing the web designs for our clients.

When I first saw him I thought I was looking at a gruff, almost savage man, taken out of those type of novels, as he rushed through the office and slammed the door behind him. When I was sent to introduce myself, I noticed that his black hair with a hint of blue was ruffled and the darkened green eyes looking up at me were red around the rims.

He coldly dismissed me with an excuse while not even looking twice my way, but then again I guess that was normal. I could never really understand how men think and don't really want to know.

My ideal man doesn't exist, a man similar to those heroes in the novels I read when young, a man who will protect me and keep me safe while indulging my whims. I did have one long-term relationship a while ago, but I was becoming way too old to still keep my hopes up and wait for Prince Charming to appear and whisk me off on his stallion. Even so, I still observed men curiously when they showed interest in me. However, since I didn't like to go out much I didn't take interest in those that seemed to want something more, as it would have been too much trouble.

After the bath water grew cold I got out and finally fell asleep while still munching over the first impression of Lukas Gray and his weirdly perfect looks.

The sun was blinding me but, despite that, I got out of bed and after enjoying some sweet, hot coffee I started preparing for the day. Arriving at work I saw Ann coming towards me with a fresh smile on her face.

I had quickly found out that Ann was quite chatty and was big on the oversharing which I didn't really mind, except when she told me about her dates with Adrian and some intimate details I really didn't care to know about. It was a bit weird to know two of my colleagues were in a relationship, and although everyone knew about them, they didn't really flaunt it in the office. I was glad that at least they kept it professional at work.

Not long after making my second cup of coffee and sitting at my desk, I saw Rob coming towards me at a hurried pace.

"Katey honey," he said with a melodious voice while putting his big palm over my shoulder and leaving it to hang there for a while. "You know we have a meeting this morning, be a dear and make some coffee for me and Luc. He'll be very grumpy if he doesn't drink at least 2 cups daily."

"Sure thing Mr. Lytton..." I started to say when he looked at me weirdly. "I meant sure Rob."

"That's better." he gave a small laugh as he went back to preparing for the meeting.

A few minutes later I had made coffee for mostly everyone and took it to the small office where Mr. Gray was discussing the new assignment.

"Here's your coffee Mr. Gray" I managed to mutter while putting the cup in front of him when I heard a door slam and to my surprise, a tall and s.e.xy woman came in swinging her h.i.p.s while rushing over in her red high heels.

Her long hair was a bright red that enveloped her shoulders and dropped with waves all around. Her eyes were brown but had a spark in them as if they would burn you if you got too close. A green dress moved tightly over her curves as she walked, showing just how perfectly proportioned she was. She looked s.e.xy even in my eyes... How I longed to be able to pull such a s.e.xy style myself, but I would only look ridiculous in high heels and this kind of dress.

As I kept staring at her, she stretched over the desk and took Mr. Gray's coffee almost out of his hand. She took a sip then threw some envelopes on the desk.

"There you go!" she said with a hint of annoyance as Mr. Gray looked at her with amus.e.m.e.nt in his eyes.

"About time." He simply said as I looked in confusion at their exchange until the gorgeous redhead moved her eyes over to me.

"Who's this?" She said in an almost bored voice, while rudely pointing towards me. It took a while for me to snap out of my little trance and introduce myself.

"Oh, you're the new one", she muttered, still paying close attention to Mr. Gray who was looking through the files. "I'm Vivian." She said this while looking at me from top to bottom. "Cute outfit..." she chimed as a smirk appeared on her face looking down at me.

My simple green dress, which hung loosely on me and ended just above the knee was coupled with a short flowery shirt wrapping my shoulders lightly. Looking back at her, I felt like I was a child trying to play dress up. Oh God, why did I choose today of all days to wear this dress...

The meeting ended quickly as everyone got assigned a job and we all went back to our own desks. After a few extra minutes in the office, Vivian got up and grabbed her bag and rushed out the door.

"Don't mind her..." Ann said. "She's always like this, she's Gray's friend since forever so she thinks she's superior. " she informed me while going out to get lunch." I heard she is still pining for him even now after he got married."

My heart throbbed a little faster ... married? I shouldn't be surprised, who would look like him and still be single? It would be weird otherwise.

"I never liked her." Ann continued with her speculations about their relationship while we took a seat in a nearby fast food joint. After ordering, Jonny and Adrian joined us and Ann switched the subject to their weekend plans.

Adrian was a friendly guy, who was clearly head over heels in love with Ann, and she was fussing over him like they were newlyweds. Jonny, on the other hand, was always grumpy and kept a straight face most of the time. The only time I heard him laugh was when Adrian said something while pointing to a burger with his fork.

The lunch was quite uneventful, as had been most of the day, and each of us had our own work to do before going home.

It was already time to leave and as we all got ready to turn off our computers, Mr. Gray entered the office and our heads turn towards him.

"This coming weekend we'll have a get together so don't make any other plans. And Katelyn, drop the Mr. will you?" He simply stated and not waiting for an answer he returned to his office.

The day ended with Ann complaining to Adrian about their ruined plans and me feeling slightly worried about going out with them. It's my first time going to a party together with work colleagues and I still wasn't sure how to dress or act around them.

"This will be awkward..." I whispered to myself taking my leave from the group.
