Chains Of Pride

Chapter 8 - What Happened?

"Hungry? …Sleepy?"

Rikona smiled before lightly teasing "Didn't you always make fun of me for sleeping so much, now you want to doze off? Not a chance." She wiped the tears that were welling up in her eyes, immensely relieved that her sister was fine.

Suddenly, a thought came to her head when she saw her sister closed her eyes, she gently shook her awake. "I'm sorry bunny, but you can't go to sleep right now, I don't know if you got a concussion when you fell earlier."

The truth was, avoiding the possible backlash from a concussion was only half the reason she wished to keep Kura awake. She also wanted to question her on anything strange she might have seen while she was out, the light, those blueprints, anything at this point.

Their situation was a bit special, as they lived at the research institute itself. She brought her younger sister upstairs and got her a glass of water around the kitchen counter before staring at her with a contemplative look.

"What…? Do I have something on my face?" Kura subconsciously started feeling over her face when she saw her older sister staring at her.

Rikona rolled her eyes and asked "Okay, bunny while you were out, do you remember anything unusual? Like flashes of light, or uh…darkness maybe?" Rikona was unsure how to compose her questions.

Kura then stared back at her with the same look, Rikona eventually got a bit annoyed and questioned before long, "what do I have something on my face now?"

"Actually you do have a little something on your face right here," said Kura smirking while she touched her own lips.

Rikona quickly pouted "Humph somebody's feeling a lot better, looks like I don't have to worry about that concussion after all" replied Rikona, feeling a bit indignant at Kura's sarcastic remark.

"Hahaha, I'm sorry I couldn't help it, don't get too mad please, hehe. Anyways, now that you mention it, I do remember something bizarre happening before" Kura's brows knitted together trying to compile her thoughts.

Rikona was patiently waiting for a response as she knew the experience from her view, was a bit bizarre, to say the least.

After a while, Kura finally opened her mouth, "It's uh…don't think I'm weird plea-"

"You mean weirder than normal?" Her sister quickly interrupted with a mischievous smirk, trying to calm her little sis down the best way she knew how, insults, insults like there's no tomorrow. "It's okay go ahead, tell me, something tells me that no matter what you say, I'll be able to handle it."

Kura slightly smiled, knowing her older sister's intentions then answered gravely "It was really weird though, when I saw you fall, I rushed to your side. However, I suddenly felt really heavy like something was pushing down on my c.h.e.s.t.

When I hit the floor I couldn't lift a finger, and the pressure was weird, it's like it was responding to something primal in me maybe? That's what it felt like anyway."

Her sister jumped in this time to help "Lemme guess, it was like it hit something a part of you, like your blood, sound about right?"

"YES YES, that's it!!" Kura excitedly exclaimed when she heard Rikona's words and quickly continued. "After that, it went dark, and I mean really dark, it's like I was drifting in a sea of darkness, but it wasn't cold or scary, I felt strangely at home. After that? Man what happened after that was really trippy."

"Trippy? What are you a hippy, whaddya mean trippy?" Rikona was caught off guard by the odd choice of words by her little sister.

"Don't sweat the small stuff hahaha" Kura did what she naturally does on purpose, trying to keep the atmosphere from getting a little too serious.

However, after seeing the increasingly annoyed look on Rikona's face, she decided to stop playing around and continued with her explanation. "While I was surrounded by the darkness, images flashed by in my head like someone was stuffing info in my head. A bunch of stuff I'm still trying to sort out, plus some really weird schematics, or maybe blueprints? I dunno."

"Blueprints?! What sort of blueprints?!" Rikona saw blueprints while she was out and wondered if it was the exact same for her sister.

"I don't know what sort of blueprints they were, it's weird, but the things in my head are still trying to sort themselves out. I think we need to give it some time and we'll be able to take what we need or want from it" said Kura trying her best to calm her older sister.

'Sighs' "You're probably right, we'll get some sleep and confront this again in the morning, okay?" Kura quickly nodded her head before responding "Mhmm night sis, I'm sure we'll be fine" Kura beamed a smile at her older sister before retiring to her room.

Kura was both mentally and physically exhausted, she glanced at the bathroom connected to her room and started to walk towards it, but before she knew it, she somehow ended up in her bed (not that she was complaining).

She didn't even find it in herself to get under the sheets at this point, actually, the moment she fell on the bed, that was the end of whatever resistance she was willing to muster.

Rikona, on the other hand, was finding it much harder to calm down than she thought, after all, she just went through quite the ordeal.

Additionally, she could feel the information rearranging itself even now, making sure she could access it whenever she so wishes, or at least that's what it felt like. She sighed and stripped herself of her clothes and went into the bathroom, myriad thoughts running through her head even now.

"What are we? Will that question be answered given time as well?" This was one of the questions which both intrigued and frightened her. What would happen if this was discovered? Could she still live this life? Could she carry on with her noble goal?

All this was eating away at her the more and more she thought about it, but of course, she couldn't stop, as this concerned the well-being of both her and her little sister.

She stepped into the shower area and turned the knob, the warm water met her body and cascaded down her immaculate figure. She simply stood there, allowing the pleasant feeling to somehow wash away her worries before she started to clean herself.

When she finally finished, she dried her skin and hair with the towel and walked back to her bedroom.

Seeing the bed in the corner, she could feel the need to sleep that wasn't there before taking over. She headed over and soon found herself under the sheets. As she stared at the ceiling, the room dimly lit up, the silver glow of the moon granting the place a dreamy look.

This somehow helped to rob her eyes of the strength to remain open. "Please let us keep what we have" the last words to leave her mouth before her eyes completely shut. Soon enough, a different type of darkness took over, one that promised comfort and solace instead of confusion.
