Chains Of Pride

Chapter 35 - 1 Minute

Everyone's eyes were glued to the scene of Lanzo being tightly bound by the Mag Slugs, while Tamashi's Plume of the Phoenix edged closer and closer to him at a staggering rate.

Suddenly, from where Lanzo stood, fluctuation of energy rampaged within the arena, even somehow dimming the bright light of the descending Plume of the Phoenix.

This Arc of flame, though dulled by that power, was still a rare, fleeting beauty, and this was why it captivated the crowd.

The burning and twisting flames plummeting did indeed seem to belong to the real phoenix of lore. Not long after, in view of all, it crashed into the ground, and its tyrannical prestige was made known

Boom!!

A devastating explosion spread out from the point of impact, sweeping up nearly all the remaining fighters. Tamashi was blown back to the distance, as the rod that released Plume of the Phoenix shattered and scattered to the wind.

"Haahh ….haaah ….haagh."

Captain Magena was breathing hard, the earlier move obviously taking its toll. What little reserves of stamina that were left, took a considerable dive after that attack.

However, there was a mad glint in the Captain's eye as the scene of destruction played out in front for all to see.

"Aaaahh!!" Myriads of screams and shouts could be heard as the fighters were being swept up in a whirlwind of fire and rocks.

The Maelstrom was intense, and even the audience closest and the ones farther away could barely keep their eyes open to see what was happening.

Seconds after it died down, a screen of dust blanketed the area, and the eerie silence that followed would make one wonder.

"Hey, they're not dead are they?" A spectator from within the crowd couldn't help but ask, however, no one could answer her. Not because they didn't want to, but because they didn't know themselves.

No one could foresee the fight reaching such a terrifying degree

"Shit! That Magenai Tamashi had such a trump card. Damn! I'm glad I'm not Lanzo right now, I would have died without a corpse."

One of the still conscious fighters commented as he saw the terrain they were fighting in not long ago, torn asunder.

Rumble!!!

The arena that only just regained its peacefulness as eerie as it was was now all of a sudden being subject to intense tremors. The haze that was so abundant before was now receding like the tide.

Before long, one could hear the distinct sound of gravel being crushed underfoot as someone walked forward. It was even more palpable under the current quiet, omnipresent as it was.

"Hmph, that one nearly rode my a.s.s to the graveyard." A lazy sounding voice shattered the silence that was so prevalent. The thin sheet of haze, the most stubborn of its remnant, still remained.

Soon after, however, a jaw-dropping development started taking place. Cutting through the hazy fog was a long horizontal line of light that extended from one end of the arena to the next.

FVIIISH!!!!!!

To the surprise of everyone present,, the remaining haze that was left dissipated in its entirety running away from the horizontal line of light as if it were the plague.

"What the hell?! How are you fine after that? You shouldn't be able to stand, let alone walk!" Tamashi's hand was trembling as it shakily pointed forward in surprise. Tamashi's face was pale.

Plume of the Phoenix was an extremely exhausting move that put a significant toll on Inferno, though not as much as Ignition.

Some mere feet away in front stood Lanzo in a spotless God's Code, "whaddya mean fine?! That was really bright, you know, I still see spots! But for you to push me this far, even for me to have to use this. Thanks Magenai, or after this, I'll be calling you Tamashi."

The Captain snorted when this was said, "Hmph, and just what gives you the confidence to what is that!" Captain Magena was taken aback as a glowing blade the length of an arm protruded from atop God's Code gauntlet.

"Hahaha, you just realised it, huh? This was something that surprised even me, want to know its name?" Not just Captain Magena, but the entire audience was stunned.

The blade that extended from God's Code Gauntlet was what Lanzo used to cut the haze away.

How do you even cut mist? What, can it cut tension too? All these thoughts were running through everyone's heads.

"Isn't that just a plasma blade?" Lanzo's Captain, the stately Himiya, was the one who spoke this time. However, the mechanisms of the arena were evacuating him as he spoke after all he could no longer fight. Several mechanisms were all over the terrain, extracting all the incapacitated fighters from the arena.

The captain looked on as he was being carried away further and further from his Ace. A man who he knew only ever smiled when he was in the midst of combat, and a man who he knew, he never really knew.

"The seconds are counting down Tamashi. I don't think you can release another one of those, not like you'd touched me anyway. This blade here allowed me to cut myself free. So your stupid Mag Slugs are next to useless." Lanzo was ecstatic, that last move was something he never saw coming, and he was up the wall to see what his rival had next in store.

A direct contrast to Tamashi, who's expression was darkened, "You expect me to believe that you used a plasma blade and cut through magnetic bindings, do you realise how idiotic that sounds?" Tamashi was livid, and time was running out.

When Ignition was used, the suit had roughly 3 mins left, within 30 seconds Mag Slugs were launched. Followed by a whole 45 seconds before Plume of the Phoenix was used, leaving only 1 minute and 45 seconds left.

Now as the dust cleared, and Lanzo stood once again, the solemn Captain knew that only a little over 1 minute remained. Tamashi decided that there was only enough time for one last attack, one massive attack anyway. Parts of Inferno kept breaking off piece by piece. It would be now or never.

"Fine, you can keep the secret to yourself! Anyway, since Plume of Phoenix won't work, how abo-" Tamashi was cut short as God's Code made a move, as only a small cloud of dust kicked up where he was.

A chill ran up Tamashi's spine as Lanzo appeared right behind the enervated Captain.

"The power that lines this blade is …Divinus Plasma."

Vwish!!

Lanzo unleashed a slash that dug out even more of Inferno, cleaving it from the Captain's body!.

"Ugh!! Bastard!! I can't afford any more hits like that!! Think Tamashi think! There must be something that can net me a win A fl.u.s.tered Tamashi's mind was racing for an answer when the blow thrust the Captain forward.

"Just great!! Lanzo's gone on the offensive. Plus he's using a f*cking Divinus Plasma Blade, why is that even a thing?!" While Tamashi's head was being racked for an answer, the audience just reacted to what was said.

"Hold on, did they just say, Divinus Plasma?!" A digium somewhat versed in the subject reacted. "Sweet merciful murderer!! How did they do that?! Why is that even a thing?!"

"Wait, what did you ju- ...Forget it, anyways I thought Divinus Plasma was something that only had a basically negligible chance of being produced, how'd they get so much to lace that blade?!"

The audience was in an uproar after the revelation that Lanzo was actually using a blade laced with Divinus Plasma to fight! No one was able to calm down, even the high stands were in an uproar!

"Good show, good show indeed! And you said that this Lanzon fellow was all talk and no bite, seems like his bite was the biggest one out of everyone here hahahaha!" A portly fellow in his late 40's laughed uncontrollably as his fat jiggled with every movement.

He was the prime minister of a smaller country but was able to attend as his son was a Digium here, though he still had to pay.

"Oh shut up, it's the suit that's doing the work, hmph!"

A man close in age responded he was the vice president of a bigger country that had friendly relations with the nation of the portly fellow from before. Though he was a bit embarrassed when he spoke bad of Lanzo, and his suit earlier now had to eat hit his words.

"What I want to know is where'd they get so much Divinus Plasma from. That small amount must have caused an exorbitant sum. Was there ever a supplier for this, and is it really worth it to use it in a fight? It's not even the championship match! Damn! These kids have too much money for their own good."

"Don't get any ideas here, Cendo Academy is not a place where we can afford to offend." As the portly man spoke, his fat continued to roll to no end. The sea could learn a thing or two from this man.

He kept up his banter with the man from before, as were all the others in the high stands.

The high stands were filled with people from outside the Academy, specifically the country officials, and other bigshots from all over the world. Though it was called high-stands, it was actually a large area of the arena, with fully furnished luxury suites, for the different attendants there.

In a dark room situated within the high-stands, sat a pale young man in a lavish couch. The light from the screen shone on his face, rendering his otherwise handsome features, frightening. Standing behind him was a dark figure, a seeming mass of shadows.

"…Interesting, the suit itself can produce Divinus Plasma, and that power core is able to sustain it? Go now and find out everything you can about this, especially that power source, we'll be on our way when you return so be quick about it! This match is practically over."

The shadow said and did nothing before it left the room soundlessly.
