In the study, Wei Hongmei quickly followed Ling Jiancheng closely.

“Lao-ye, what exactly happened? Where are we moving to? Why are we moving all of a sudden? What are you talking about just now?”

“What else could it be? The Ling Family is over. I’ve lost my job. We are moving to  shantytown.” Ling Jianzheng forced himself to remain calm. However, his eyes were already bloodshot.

“Shantytown?” 

The moment Wei Hongmei heard that word, she couldn’t stay put and shouted, “I got out from there previously. That is not a place for humans to live, even I couldn’t tolerate staying there. Lao-ye, how could you live in such a place?”

Ling Jiancheng’s eyes flashed and he had been struggling. 

Eventually, he could only say, “Do you still think that the Ling Family is still as well-off as before?”

If they kept staying in the villa, they would be in heavy debt. Thus, their only option was to sell the villa and pay off the debt. But they would be left penniless. 

“If you are unwilling to move, you can divorce with me now. I’m already broke and I can’t provide you anything, I…” The more Ling Jiancheng spoke about it, the more he felt embarrassed. He suddenly fell from a high place to the dirt. He was still not adapted to such a difference. 

“Lao-ye, I’m not divorcing you. I’ll follow you.” We Hongmei said decisively. She was very aware of the hardships of living alone. 

Ling Jiancheng let out a hmph. It seemed as if he was impatient, “Then start packing already.  We’re moving.”

“Lao-ye…” Wei Hongmei shivered and quickly asked, “How did you end up losing your job all of a sudden? Did Xia Weilan…”

“When I asked you to start packing, just do it. Don’t talk so much.” Ling Jiancheng kicked Wei Hongmei out of habit. 

Wei Hongmei felt the pain in her leg and immediately responded. She went out and started packing. While she was packing, big droplets of tears dropped on the back of her hand. No matter how she tried to stop it, she couldn’t stop herself from crying. But she didn’t dare to weep loudly, because she knew that if she made a fuss, Ling Jiancheng would get even more irritated and would vent all his anger on her. 

“How come things suddenly become this?” 

Wei Hongmei took some of the expensive jewelleries and shoved them all into a box. She then took some of the designer bags and suddenly, something came into her mind and rushed to Ling Xuefei’s bedroom to look for valuable stuff. She placed all of them into a box. But how much jewellery did Wei Hongmei own? Ling Xuefei was the one who had the most jewellery. 

When Wei Hongmei passed by Xia Weilan’s room, she didn’t even bother to take a glance. Because the few remaining clothes that were inside Xia Weilan’s room were already taken away by Xia Weilan. Wei Hongmei looked at the boxes of things and felt slightly at ease. But she was still not reconciled.

Why did she have to go back to Shantytown again? What had she done wrong to deserve this?
A few minutes later, Wei Hongmei got out of the house in fury. She drove the only car in the house and headed for Fairview Imperial Court. Fairview Imperial Court was Beijing’s well-known residential area for the upper class. Because there are many trees here, it was simply a forestry park. And this area was obviously the most expensive district in Beijing.  

“Who are you looking for?” The security asked as per protocol when he saw Wei Hongmei getting out of the car. 

“I am Wei Hongmei. I am looking for Xia Weilan. I’m her real mother.” Seeing that the security was tight, Wei Hongmei didn’t dare to cause any problem and immediately answered politely.

“Alright, please wait a moment.” The security guard dared not neglect her and quickly made a call to the villa.

“Master, there’s someone named Wei Hongmei looking for madam…”

At this moment, Mo Beichen was sitting in the living room browsing through some information. After hearing the security’s words, he swept his glance on the figure that happened to enter the room and he immediately replied, “We’re not seeing her.”

The security guard put away his phone and turned around to look at Wei Hongmei in suspicion, “Mr Mo said that he will not entertain any guest. Please kindly leave.”

“Not entertaining guests? Am I a guest? I’m his mother-in-law. He is absolutely unfilial. I’m going to call my daughter now.” Wei Hongmei’s eyes reddened from fury. She searched for her phone and made a call.

“Hello? Girl, I’m in front of your house now. Let me in now.” Wei Hongmei said rudely.

“At my house?” Xia Weilan was holding two books. 

She was talking on the phone as she stood at the corridor, feeling surprised. “Xia Residence or Mo Residence?” 

“Mo Residence.” Wei Hongmei said coldly.

“Okay,” Xia Weilan took a glance at Mo Beichen who was sitting downstairs with his leg crossed. 

She casually asked, “What brings you here?”

Xia Weilan squinted her eyes. Everytime Wei Hongmei looked for her, there’s bound to be nothing good. This biological mother is even more vicious than a stepmother. 

Wei Hongmei said urgently, “Let me in first.”

Xia Weilan hesitated as she could hear from her voice that she did not come with good intention.

“Xia Weilan, I am your mother. Are you really blocking me at the gate?” Wei Hongmei suddenly softened her tone and said tenderly.

“There’s no need for you to come in. I’ll go out.” Xia Weilan hung up the phone immediately.

A few minutes later, Xia Weilan appeared at the gate. She didn’t want to let Wei Hongmei in so she walked out.

She said coldly, “What do you want?”

Xia Weilan kept a distance in front of Wei Hongmei, speaking in an extremely cold tone with an expressionless face.

“My daughter, your dad had been fired. Did you do this…” Wei Hongmei’s eyes moved as she was thinking on how to coax Xia Weilan.

“How is it none of your business? You are the lady boss. You can’t simply fire people without a reason. How can you simply fire him.” Wei Hongmei grabbed her arm with great force.

“Do you know where we are moving to now? It’s Shanty town. Is that place even fit for people to live?”

Xia Weilan swept her eyes coldly on her arm that was injured by Wei Hongmei’s grip. She pushed away Wei Hongmei with all her might.

Wei Hongmei staggered a few steps back and turned her head to look at her in disbelief, “How can you treat your mother like this. I’ve gone through so much hardship to raise you. Why did you turn into an ungrateful and vicious person? Are you happy to see the Ling Family going down?”

Wei Hongmei grew more upset as she spoke. She had intended to plead with her to spare the Ling Family, but she had totally forgotten about that and started to scold irresponsibly, “If I knew this earlier, I should have strangled you the moment you were born. I shouldn’t have raised an unlucky star and scrooge like you.”

Xia Weilan felt a stab in her heart and cast a glance at Wei Hongmei. It was a cold-blooded glance. 

“Are you done? If you’re done, then get going. Don’t ever come here again.” Xia Weilan was about to walk back to the villa as soon as she finished speaking.

“Stand there, you unfilial daughter. Let’s see if I’ll beat you to death today.” We Hongmei’s eyes were bloodshot from fury and she was about to pounce on Xia Weilan.

The security guard immediately blocked Wei Hongmei outside. Xia Weilan halted her footsteps. Wei Hongmei’s scolding voice was heard. She slowly turned around to look at Wei Hongmei’s ugly behaviour and she suddenly smiled.

“You wanted to play up to Ling Jiancheng, so you trampled over me. Wei Hongmei, you lived a sad life.” As soon as she finished speaking, Xia Weilan left without turning her head. 

Speaking of it, Wei Hongmei was someone who held on high and stepped on low. She was such a pitiful worm that could only rely on others because she was incapable.

“Daughter…” Wei Hongmei suddenly called at her desperately.

Those who didn’t know would have thought she really cared for Xia Weilan.
