Brutal Journey Of An Unfortunate Heroine

Chapter 77 - A Little Benevolent...?

A child ran out of the alley, her face scared and fl.u.s.tered. Upon seeing a woman standing by the prison with a hole in it, dressed in a military uniform, her face lit up.

"M-miss!" The girl rushed over, almost tripping over her own feet. "Please help me! Please!"

The female officer looked at the girl with contempt. Eyeing the child, the female officer noticed that the child's breathing was ragged, a large wound was dripping blood from her arm. To her, the child looked like another runaway from the human traffickers.

"Sorry dear, I'm in the middle of work. Why don't you go on back to your dealer and make yourself useful by obediently selling yourself?"

Lydis was a bit shocked at the response but she couldn't stop there.

"Please miss, just tell them you never saw me! I'm begging you, please, help me…" Lydis wiped her tears with a bloodied hand. The female officer rolled her eyes, she didn't hide that fact that she found Lydis an annoyance at all.

*tsk* "Shoo. Go away, I'm busy. Your owner should be here soon right? Stop making a fuss and move away from me." The female officer kicked Lydis in the c.h.e.s.t, pushing her down.

Lydis fell on her wound and whimpered loudly, the sound brought a slight smile to the officer's face. It'd seemed that she'd found the perfect way to relieve some stress. She wanted to make Lydis cry more, to see the pain twist Lydis's face as she despaired in false hope. With this though, the female officer jabbed her heel into Lydis's palm, the action resulting in Lydis's cry escaping. Her stifled crying showed that she'd been abused and hit before.

Closing her communicator, the female officer removed her heel from Lydis's hand. The painful reaction of the child in front of her were just so enjoyable. Like squashing an insect.

"I know, how about a deal?"

Lydis stared at the female officer with hopeful eyes.

"Let's move somewhere more secure. We don't want the bad guys to find you again do we?"

Lydis shook her head furiously from side to side. The female officer smiled again. How easy it was to fool a child. Although she'd managed to escape from her captors, her life will end here.

The female officer had her back turned to Lydis. Even though her back was turned, Lydis still felt the killing intent from the female officer.

They entered an alley away from the prison, away from the road, from anyone's eyes, and away from the cameras.

"Gosh, how silly of me. I never told you my name. Just call me Cynthia. How about you little one?"

The female officer had been leading Lydis through the alleys skillfully. She chose a spot where few people lived and if they were to see anything, her power as an officer from Central would shut them up instantly despite having the lowest ranked title.

"Hello?" Cynthia turned around and felt a sharp pain in her leg, a strange serum quickly entered and spread throughout her body. Falling to one knee, Cynthia glared at Lydis's cold stare.

"You, you! What did you do?!"

Lydis shrugged, her face ignorant of Cynthia's situation.

"I'm not sure what you mean Miss Cynthia. What's wrong with you? Are you okay?" Lydis reached her bloodied hand out and touched Cynthia's face.

Initially, Cynthia meant to flick Lydis's hand away but she found that her arms had become numb. She couldn't feel nor move them much.

"What di-?!" Lydis pushed Cynthia back slightly and her entire body fell over. Cynthia tried to move but she felt everything slowing down. Her eyelids hung half open, her mouth ajar.

It seemed that the muscle relaxant Ui had given her was extremely powerful. Within seconds, it'd already spread and taken effect on Cynthia's entire body. Anywhere her blood flowed to, the muscle relaxant 'relaxed' those muscles almost to the point of killing her.

Cynthia felt her heart slow down, the constant rhythmic beats she'd come accustomed to were slowing. Each beat echoing in her head. The intervals between them becoming longer and longer. She tried to turn her head but nothing worked.

Lydis stood over the Central representative. It would be better if the relaxant killed Cynthia but Lydis didn't want to take chances. Although the alley was littered with scrap metal, rusted ones, broken ones, bent ones, none of them looked good enough to deal the finishing blow.

Cynthia tried to scream but her voice, much less her body, could move they way she wanted it to. Lydis saw the fear building in Cynthia's eyes. Her confusion, anger, her every emotion played through her eyes like a movie roll.

Lydis smirked. It was sad to have to finish it so quickly. If it'd been any other situation, Lydis would've gladly tormented Cynthia for days, leaving her on a fine line between life and death. Starvation and pain would be her only sensations. When her body could no longer feel, Lydis would move onto shattering her mind, although not physically but mentally. Tortured until she could not longer be considered sane. Until 'Cynthia' had disappeared and all that remained was a mindless shell.

Shivers tingled Lydis's arm but, she couldn't afford to waste anymore time. Cynthia would die today, a painful yet quick death compared to her fantasy but, it would be by no means merciful.

From the corner of her eye, Lydis spotted her weapon. It was a metal rod, although slightly rusty, the edge where it'd been snapped remained sharp. Almost the width of her arm it was about a meter in length, it's metallic shine caught a small patch of the setting sun overhead.

"How nice…" Lydis plucked the rod from the trash pile and held it up. "… it seems like today is in my fortune."

Cynthia stared at the crazy child in front of her. She felt the irregularities of her heartbeat. The erratic thumping as it desperately tried to flood her body with blood. Although it was slightly quicker, her heart could not fight off the relaxants.

"I would say clench your teeth but I guess you can't really do that right now huh?"

Lydis swung the rod at Cynthia's face, the impact fl.i.c.k.i.n.g Cynthia's face to the right. The sick pop of Cynthia's jaw brought joy to Lydis. She swung again, this time catching Cynthia's nose. A gurgled noise escaped Cynthia as a chunk of her nose had been gouged off. Lydis looked at the end of her rod and swung to the side, fl.i.c.k.i.n.g the piece of meat off.

Cynthia felt the slow rush of pain from her nose, the quick uneven jabs of pain hitting her mind slowly. She felt like crying. Her eyes were stinging but there wasn't enough tears for them to fall yet.

Lydis moved to the side of Cynthia, parallel to the wall of the alley. Rising the rod like a batter, Lydis used her entire body to swing.

*BAM!*

The forceful impact of the rod smashed in Cynthia's teeth, her head violently colliding with the wall behind her. For a moment, the intense signals from Cynthia's nerves caused her to jerk quickly before slumping against the wall. Behind her head, blood spilled along the wall, drawing lines down to the floor of the alley.

"Oh, sh*t. Too hard…"

Lydis lowered her rod and looked around, checking if the noise had brought any unwelcomed watchers. Seeing as there were still alone, Lydis breathed a quick sigh.

"Need to wrap this up."

Breathing steadily, Lydis channeled slyphir to her arms and legs. Holding the rod like a lance with both hands, Lydis distanced herself from Cynthia before sprinting closer. A step before reaching Cynthia, Lydis plunged the rod deep into Cynthia's heart, her momentum carrying the rod deeper into Cynthia's c.h.e.s.t. As Lydia felt that the rod would no longer move deeper, she let go.

Blood spilled from Cynthia's mouth and c.h.e.s.t. If she didn't die from the impact to her head, she would definitely die now. Whether from blood loss or from her heart stopping, either way Cynthia was beyond saving.

Lydis looked at Cynthia's corpse one more time before leaving.

If she were to go directly onto the wide road, someone or something might think she was related to Cynthia's death. To avoid suspicions, Lydis continued deeper into the vast alleys and walkways. Intertwined and tangled, one road led back to the beginning while another led to the edge of the city. It was like a maze.

About half and hour after Lydis ditched Cynthia's body, someone called out to her.

*psst* "Hey you…"

Lydis pretended not to hear and moved on, her steps never faltering.

"I know you can hear me."

"…"

"… I've got something really good over here. Wanna come look?"

Lydis tried her hardest to hold back the annoyance on her face. The intentions of the fool was so clear and obvious, even a baby would know that they were suspicious. Only another idiot dumber than the one talking to her would follow them.

Lydis continued her walk, weaving around piles of trash. The unknown person continued to follow Lydis from a distance. They continued to call out to her, but she never responded.

After about ten minutes, the suspicious person seemed to get dumber.

"Ah! Could it be that you're deaf? Aw man, I should've known!" A sound close to a hand hitting their face followed. "What else could it be? Looks like I should just bag'em before they scream. If the girl can't hear me then there's no need to be so sneaky!"

The man slipped out of his plastic box, his camouflage and hiding place. Although it was just decorated with various scraps it resembled every other pile of trash so it kind of worked?

Involuntarily, Lydis let out an annoyed sigh. She hadn't meant to do it but, listening to the fool was just too unbearable. She felt that listening to his plain and stupid attempts to lure her over had somehow made her dumber in the process.

"Eep!"

The man was surprised by Lydis's sudden sigh. It seemed similar to the kind of sighs he got from his boss whenever he failed or did something stupid.

Shaking his head, the man brushed off his absurd thoughts. A little girl resembled his huge and buff boss? No way.

The man quickly walked behind Lydis, holding a thick cloth mouth gag.

*phew* "All right, you can do this, you can do this…"

The man reached for Lydis.
