Blue Blood

Chapter 11 - Exterminate! Blood? Bath!

Option 2 won the poll, unless it changes within like 3-4 chapters I will age Remilia into a petite adu|t (can you believe the censored adu|t in the comments?) in the span of 10 years. It's currently like 1855 and canon starts in 2004 or so. Patchouli will be 14 in 1922 and will be introduced then, there's no background info about her so if you have anything interesting to propose, go ahead. I will make something up otherwise.

After creating my spell the sun rises from the east as if declaring my personal unique spells birth. I then go back inside and fetch some desserts to give to Reimu so that I can take her Youkai extermination job for today, taking her fun away will have a price afterall. Though I won't visit Immediatly since most humans don't wake up at dawn. The exceptions being those that want to interact with youkai like Aya-chan, since youkai are most active in the dark and her caretakers won't let her stay up late at night. Reimu doesn't need to wake up so early since the youkai she exterminates are active during the day to harm humans.

I take control of the Raven I left with Aya so that I know when she will come to my Inn. Though I didn't think they would spoil this little bastard so much. It must be that Aya thinks she's cute. She's sitting at a table eating a breakfast luxurious even for human lords, even though she's barely a magical Raven.

Arata:"Aya-chan, I thought you would visit my Inn since it can help with your weak body? What held you up yesterday?"

Aya:"Arata!? You scared me! You should really give more notice before suprising others. I wanted to visit your Inn, but my guards wouldn't let me. It was their usual 'You can't trust any yokai!' nonsense! It took all of the people that visited yesterday returning safely and in better health for me to barely be able to convince them to let me go!"

Arata:"Poor Aya-chan, it must be hard with such 'dedicated' servants. What time will you visit then? I have another thing you could chronicle at the time and don't want to make you wait. I will be busy this morning afterall."

Aya:"I will visit at 8 since I heard about a new type of beetle Youkai appearing near the village that was forgotten in the outside world recently, I wish to look for it first."

Arata:"I will be back between 9 and 10 in the morning so until then you can use the hot spring or read the books in my library. There is probably a lot of outside information you would like in there."

Her eyes lit up at outside information and we talk for around 10 more minutes until we both finish eating. After saying our farewells for now I release my control over the Raven, feeling her discontent since I ate all of the food on her plate while controlling her. She didn't get to taste any.

Knowing when I should return and the sun being completely visable over the mountain to the east I fly towards Reimu's shrine. I hope there are decent extermination targets today so I can test my magic. Reaching the top I can see Reimu isn't sweeping like usual, instead she has her Gohei in hand, walking towards the slope leading down.

Arata:"Reimu, I've actually come to see if there are any Youkai that need to be exterminated in Gensokyo. I created a new magic and wanted to test it."

Reimu:"There are. I was going to do it now, but I'm curious about what magic you've created. I will let you do it if you allow me to follow and see your magic."

Arata:"I was even going to buy it with more cake, it seems like I got lucky."

She didn't allow me to have the extermination request until I gave her cake after I said that. I'm actually suprised a Youkai needs exterminated, usually the worst case is them getting sealed. For a Youkai to get exterminated they need to break the rules by either killing other youkai, humans from the village or turning a human from the village into a Youkai (which is frowned upon since there are limited humans).

We reach the Youkai Forest, a different forest from the one I live in and the one Marisa and Alice live in. Unlike the Forest of Magic that has almost no living thing inside due to humans powering it with the belief the forest will kill you and most Yokai that bother Alice and Marisa inside meeting a bad end, the beliefs in the danger and lethality of the forest of magic from both humans and Youkai make sure that anyone not at a certain ammount of strength will slowly die just breathing the air inside.

The Youkai Forest at the base of Youkai Mountain though (which used to be the tallest mountain in the world until the person living on the second tallest mountain got mad at it and destroyed it for being taller, it then appeared in Gensokyo after being forgotten in the real world, it's taller than everest.) is completely full of various Yokai, humanoid and not. We fly for a little longer until I start asking about who we're exterminating.

Reimu:"It's a small group of Kappa, after they stole a mound of cuc.u.mbers from the rest of their species they where kicked out of the rivers close to Youkai mountain. Living in the rivers near the edge of Yokai forest, they're too close to the human village and ate a few children after they ran out of stolen cuc.u.mbers. They live somewhere on this branch of the river, closer to the human village."

I'm a little suprised, most Youkai wouldn't dare test the rules right now, let alone break them. After Gensokyo got crammed full of Youkai and spirits from different mythologies there where a lot of wars, which only stopped after every Youkai, spirit and God in Gensokyo where forced to sign an unbreakable devils contract or leave. No more killing other Youkai and supernatural or humans from the village. No one dared to test the waters when Yukari and her group of fellow sages (monsters) promised to enforce the rules.

Only after Remilia started the Scarlet Mist incedent due to boredome did people start messing around carelessly again. That was also the first time Spell cards where used to resolve such a big incedent without harming others lives. (Maybe that's why there was a surge of bullshit that happened after the Scarlet Mist incedent, anyone would play with fire if they couldn't get burned.)

I search for around 10 minutes in Raven form until I find them, calling Reimu towards me. We fly down in front of them to question them since although Reimu prefers to just beat up the offender and leave without even talking to them, she won't kill someone without making sure it's her target.

Arata:"Have you seen any human children around here recently you Kappa's? I've been searching for them for two days since they wandered so far from the village, if you haven't eaten them yet would you share some?"

Kappa:"To bad! We've already had our fill! Those three where irresistable with their bellies full of Cuc.u.mber. Maybe next time you should track them faster, or bring us Cuc.u.mbers as payment?"

Arata:"That's all the confirmation I need from you."

I levitate my laser spell card from my pocket and it light's up with a beautiful dark blue magic circle. Creating 8 tiny wisps of mana flame above my head, I activate the lasers, one for each Kappa, and watch as they fall down asleep on the edge of the river bank from mental exhaustion in about 3 seconds. It worked perfectly, I just need to see if they recover without a problem and I'm good to go.

Reimu:"What did your spell do!? I've never seen such a convenient spell, yet you dared to say your species isn't overpowered!"

Arata:"I used the flame in the lasers to burn their mana away, meaning they fell asleep from mental exhaustion. Though I want to see if they recover fully and doc.u.ment any lasting damage before you either seal them or kill them. Do you want some tea and snacks while we wait?"

We eat the snacks after I play my flute to speed up their healing. We talk for around 5 minutes before they wake up, though they just lay there in a daze without moving. At 10 minutes they stop drooling into the river and at 15 they sit up while wiping the sleep out of their eyes. They look like they just woke up from exhausting their mana naturally and with my spells I can't find any lasting damage whatsoever. Maybe because I targeted their mana/energy and not their soul? It looks like it will take 45 minutes total to recover with my flutes help, while without it around two hours and a half?

Reimu:"Your spell is truly convenient, I'm glad you chose lasers and not bullet hell though. Most people do a bullet hell. I'm also suprised it only took their stamina and didn't hurt them at all."

Arata:"That was the purpose, there are too many people in Gensokyo that want to challenge me and I don't want to actually hurt any of them. I'm a little suprised the first version of the spell worked so well though. So, do you want them sealed or killed? They look a little young so I wanted to ask before doing it."

The Kappa shiver when they hear me talking about killing them so calmly, any tiredness left over from my spell vanishing. Though they don't dare to speak since they're worried I'll actually kill them once I find out they're awake.

Reimu:"Since these Kappa ARE really young, I don't think they would get banished for stealing anything other than cuc.u.mbers since Kappa like them so much. I will seal them for 25, no 50 years as punishment, since the kids where full on Cuc.u.mber, it's hard for such young Kappa to resist cuc.u.mber afterall.. Then we can leave this damp place."

The Kappa look like they just heard the worst thing in the world.

Arata:"Then I will plant Cuc.u.mbers using my leftover seeds close enough so they can smell them from their seal, It would torture them to not be able to eat them but smell them for so long."

Now they look like they've seen past the world into the depths of hell.

After we sperate I head back to my human Inn so I can talk to Aya-chan. It's already 9 in the morning, so I head to the libray to see if she's still here. Damn, you Ravens will have to clean this mess up, I know I won't. Aya has about 30 books stacked up at one of the desks I made for reading, going through one about the types of Youkai in Nurarihyon's night parade of 100 demons from the outside world. She looks so happy learning about Youkai. You can't even tell her body is sickly due to her just recently getting out of the hot spring.

Arata:"Well? How much do you appreciate my library? It's made of all of the important books I collected in my 200 years outside."

Aya:"It's the best! It's comparable to the library in the human village but full of information I don't know! It took me two lives to read all of the books in the human Library! I can't get over so much new information about Youkai."

Arata:"You can come and read here whenever you want as long as you don't damage the books, thats all the wards are for afterall. You can even take at most 10 home with you at once. Though I bet you forgot about me telling you I had something left for you to chronicle due to your excitement didn't you?"

Her eyes light up, looking at me like she's saying 'why aren't you telling me already!?'

I take the time to tell her all about Kanshou and Bakuya. From how they aren't forged with their use in mind since a king made the blacksmiths forge it, being completely void of any intent because of it unless you infuse it yourself. To how after they weren't good enough to please the king after forging so the blacksmiths wife threw herself into the forge to power the swords with sacrifice, not even telling her husband she would do it while he watched her. The blacksmith keeping Kanshou to remember his wife's sacrifice and the king having him executed with Kanshou for treason for trying to keep the sword. Creating Kanshou, the Yang sword, and Bakuya, the Yin sword. The married/twin swords of Yin and Yang. She started crying before I finished the swords history and actually got into their abilities. After finishing all of the lore about Kanshou and Bakuya, and letting her draw them on her scroll, I look her in the eyes.

Arata:"You can come here to enjoy yourself as much as you want. I don't know what was done to your soul, (lies) tying it to Gensokyo, and I can't help you live longer than a year from now, but I will save you during your next reincarnation. I can already tell that your mana smothers your body, though you've lived in your body for too long for me to bring it back to a good condition. I know a stranger shouldn't say such things to you, but I've started enjoying your company, so the next time you're born I will let you choose what age you want to die at."

She looks even sadder than when she heard about my swords while wiping tears from her eyes before they fall. I pat her on the head and comfort her with silence for a few minutes before she calms down.

Arata:"You shouldn't be so sad, we still have a year to enjoy before then. You should be happy since by the time you reincarnate I will be confident of saving you. At that time I won't care about your guards, your body will be healthy enough for me to bring you around the entirety of Gensokyo. You should look forward to it."

Even though her eyes are still watery, while nodding she gives me a smile more pure and innocent than even Reimu's.

Aya:"Un! At that time I will hold you to your promise."

I feel an arrow through my heart, though unlike with Remilia I only feel Aya-chan would make the best daughter or little sister ever. Even though she's like 1000 years old spiritually right now. We talk to eachother until noon, when her guards make her return since it isn't good for the Child of Miare to stay out of the village for too long.

I think about what I should do for the rest of the day, maybe befriend the 'Flower Master of the Four Seasons' with flowers from my garden that aren't naturally in Gensokyo so that the crazy b!tch doesn't kill me if I meet her randomly?

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________What do you think of the interaction with Aya-chan? She won't be a romantic interest, but was him dropping the "I can save you" too soon? Should I have had them know each other for longer before I did it?
